According to a newly-formed organization, Child Performers Coalition, a new rule has been initiated by the New York Department of Labor (DOL) which may increase costs to television, film and theatrical productions emanating out of New York, and at the same time change the way child performers work. The proposed rule could take effect December 25 unless the DOL is convinced to scrub the proposed changes they made public on November 10. The Child Performers Coalition, established last week in response to DOL’s proposed changes is working with the BizParentz Foundation and to date have amassed 500+ signatures on a petition asking the DOL to draft different language that “encourages productions to do business in New York and protects the physical, mental and financial well-being of child performers.” For more information about this issue and to sign the petition, visit: www.childperformerscoalition.org or www.bizparentz.org .
