~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

USA Network made a deal with Universal Pictures involving the rights to more than 30 films.  Many of the movie titles will make their exclusive network premiere on USA Network in 2013 including Bridesmaids, the action film Fast Five, the comedy Little Fockers as well as romantic thriller The Adjustment Bureau.  In addition, the films will also run on other NBCUniversal properties such as NBC, Syfy, E!, Bravo, Oxygen, Style, G4, Chiller, Sleuth and UniHD.

Before its launch on September 26, Atlanta-based Bounce TV secured an affiliation deal with Gannett Broadcasting to air on WATL/Atlanta, the second largest African American television market in the US.  Bounce TV, the first over-the-air broadcast television network for African Americans has wrapped affiliation deals with Gannett, Belo Corp., Nexstar Communications, LIN TV Corp. and Raycom Media.  At its launch time, Bounce TV expects to be available in 50% of the US.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Season three of NBC’s a cappella competition show The Sing-Off will sport a new judge as Sara Bareilles joins Ben Folds and Shawn Stockman for the new season opening September 19 at 8p.  Bareilles replaces Nicole Scherzinger and she appeared on the show’s finale last season.  NBC has opted to make The Sing-Off a weekly competition show versus running a slew of eps in one week.  In doing so, the show has doubled its number of episodes to 11 (up from five last season) and also a total of sixteen groups will now compete which is six more than last season.  The expanded season will also allow viewers to know more of the contestant’s personal stories.

John Corbett will show up again on NBC’s drama Parenthood in a multi-episode arc next season reprising his role as Seth, ex-husband to Sarah (Lauren Graham).  Corbett’s character joins the drama in episode five.

Days before the season premiere of The Millionaire Matchmaker, Bravo expanded its working relationship with the show’s star and executive producer Patti Stanger by offering a two-year development deal.  The agreement allows Stanger to find new talent, create and develop content and possibly star in and executive produce a new series for Bravo.  The Millionaire Matchmaker launches its season August 15 at 9p.

Bravo further announced it is adding three new series for its lineup:

  • Around the World in 80 Plates (wt) is a culinary competition series where up-and-coming chefs travel to various countries testing their skills at some of the best and most challenging restaurants around the world.  Produced by Magical Elves.
  • Paint the Town (wt) is a docu-series following the lives of six 20-something women who move to New York City with dreams of living fashionable, art-filled lives as they all work in trendy art galleries.  Produced by Magical Elves.
  • Newlyweds: The First Year (wt) is a docu-series exploring the highs and lows of the first year of marriage from the perspective of six diverse couples living in different parts of the country.  Produced by Monkey Kingdom.

Gemma Whelan (Gulliver’s Travels, The Wolfman) joins HBO’s Game of Thrones in season two playing Yara Greyjoy, the older seafaring sister of the Stark family’s young ward, Theon.  Yara rebels against her family’s traditions by leading her own ship and men into battle.

Rachel Maddow is staying put as a primetime host on MSNBC after signing a new multi-year contract.  Terms of the deal were not available though Maddow herself said the new agreement is similar to her current one which was not due to expire this year.  Maddow indicated it was good timing to renegotiate her contract now before the 2012 election year.

Casting Call: Doron Ofir Casting and Popular Productions, Inc. are casting exclusively for the docu-series Life, Love and Luxury featuring influential couples in elite society circles as they celebrate their love and their journey together.  The casting company is looking for privileged couples in serious committed relationships.  This lifestyle docu-series celebrates individuals who have found their perfect match.  If you or someone you know would like to share a personal fairy tale story, send an email now to www.elitecouplecasting.com .  Casting producers will call to set up phone interview appointments.
