~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

The CBC daytime talk show Steven and Chris launches this fall on Live Well Network when the series makes its second season debut in US syndication.  Adding the Live Well Network boosts the series to clearances in more than 75% of US households.  Steven and Chris airs as a Monday-Friday strip in the US.  The CBC has additionally renewed the show for its fifth season in Canada this fall.  PPI Releasing distributes Steven and Chris and this show, along with Da Vinci’s Inquest, Cold Squad, Edgemont and The Electric Playground have all been renewed for syndication in 2011-2012.  The Live Well Network is a lifestyle hi-def digital network owned by ABC Owned Television.  The network is available on digital subchannels of all ABC O&Os in addition to stations from Belo, Scripps, Albritton among others.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

ABC picked up a Western-themed drama of its own from Ron Moore, executive producer of Battlestar Galactica and Matt Roberts, writer on Caprica.  The western titled Hangtown is described as having procedural elements about a frontier town in the early 1900s struggling with the development of the railroad.  The main characters could include a Marshal who solves crimes by instinct, a crime-solving East Coast doctor and a young woman who is a crime writer in the Wild West.  Sony Pictures Television is behind the project with Moore as producer.

Three actors are added to the cast roster for HISTORY’s upcoming scripted miniseries The Hatfields and McCoysTom Berenger cast as Jim Vance, Anse Hatfield’s (Kevin Costner) hotheaded Uncle Jim and warlord of the Hatfield clan; Powers Boothe as Will Hatfield, Anse’s level-headed and fair older brother; and Mare Winningham as Sally McCoy, wife of Randall McCoy (Bill Paxton) and matriarch of the McCoy family.  Kevin Reynolds also is on board to direct the miniseries.  Leslie Greif’s production company, Thinkfactory Media is behind the project; Kevin Costner is also a producing partner.  Sony Pictures Television is involved as distributor.

Courtney Thorne-Smith rejoins CBS’ Two and a Half Men reprising her role as Lyndsey McElroy, Alan’s (Jon Cryer) love interest.  Details of Thorne-Smith’s return have not been revealed though her character will recur during the ninth season.

A partnership between Showtime, Steven Spielberg and Stephen King will develop a new drama series, Under the Dome based on King’s 2009 novel of the same name.  The plot is set in a Maine town that is suddenly enveloped by a force field preventing the locals from reaching the outside world.  DreamWorks Television is producing the series and King is executive producer with Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank from DreamWorks.

Production begins in September on FEARnet’s multi-camera, 30m buddy horror/comedy series, Holliston.  The series stars Adam Green (who also created the series) and Joe Lynch and the cast list added rockers Dee Snider (Twisted Sister, Strangeland) and Oderus Urungus (Alien lead singer from GWAR).  Snider will play Green and Lynch’s boss who is also a member of a “Van Halen” tribute band, while Urungus will play himself and is Green’s imaginary friend who lives in a closet and gives him advice that is misguided and offensive.  FEARnet gave Holliston a six-episode order and Green’s company ArieScope Pictures is producing.  Green also serves as director, writer and executive producer on the production; Lynch is also an executive producer along with Cory Neal.

Swedish actress Helena Mattsson joins The CW’s Nikita in season two playing Cassandra, an elegant political figure with past ties to Michael.  Nikita premieres September 23 at 8p.

In another Stephen King project, a miniseries adaptation of his Bag of Bones for A&E Network has cast Jason Priestly as a literary agent who works with Pierce Brosnan’s recuperating novelist, per EW.

Casting Call:  Canada’s Rogers Media invites talented people to apply for the Citytv original series, Canada’s Got Talent.  A nationwide search to find Canada’s most talented performers is commencing in September.  Canada’s Got Talent will premiere on Citytv in spring 2012.  Audition cities include: Winnipeg on September 9 and 10; Edmonton on September 14 and 15; Vancouver on September 19 and 20; Montreal on September 23 and 24; Toronto on September 27-30; and Halifax on October 11-12.  Participants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada to participate.  For complete list of rules, regulations and pre-registration forms, please visit
