AMC slated the premiere date of its newest original series The Walking Dead for October 31 at 10p. The series, based on the comic book penned by Robert Kirkman, will launch on Halloween with a 90m episode while subsequent episodes, airing on Sunday nights, will each be an hour-long. The Walking Dead is premiering during the network’s annual Fearfest, a marathon of thriller and horror films in its 14th year. Andrew Lincoln heads the cast of The Walking Dead playing police officer Rick Grimes who leads a group of survivors following a zombie apocalypse. This series also marks AMC’s first wholly-owned original series. A four-and-half minute trailer of The Walking Dead can be seen at www.amctv.com .
On a related note, Fox International Channels is introducing The Walking Dead globally in 120 countries in 33 languages the first week in November following AMC’s debut on October 31. Fox International Channels is launching The Walking Dead much like a theatrical film release which will be viewed in 250 million households for its premiere.
On Labor Day September 6, A&E Network brings back a third season of its reality series Hoarders with double episodes at 9p and 10p. Each of the 20 new episodes will follow two different people who are hoarders in the extreme. The series is produced by Screaming Flea Productions for A&E.
Syfy ordered six extra episodes of its original reality series Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files, soon after airing its first season finale last Thursday. Production on the new episodes will begin this Friday with these six episodes premiering on November 4 at 9p. During its first season, Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files averaged 561,000 A18-49 viewers, 587,000 among A25-54 as well as 1.0 million total viewers. The series is a co-production from BASE Productions and Universal Networks International.
WGBH Boston produced a new woodworking series, Rough Cut Woodworking with Tommy Mac set to premiere nationally on public television stations October 2 (check local listings for air times). The series, distributed by American Public Television, contains 13 half-hour episodes where host Tommy MacDonald demonstrates how to make furniture for the home and office for various skill levels.
Monday’s season ender of The Real Housewives of New Jersey on Bravo at 10p tallied 2.3 million A18-49 and 3.4 million total viewers. This particular episode now ranks as the most-watched episode of the season. Furthermore, Bravo will air a two-part reunion special featuring the cast of The Real Housewives of New Jersey on August 30 at 10p and on September 6 at 9p.
Edward Kean, 85, the main writer on the classic children’s series Howdy Doody Show died on August 13. Mr. Kean also wrote the theme song “It’s Howdy Doody Time” and created the word “kowabunga” for the show which aired on TV from 1947 to 1960.
G4 heads to the hotbed war zone of Afghanistan in a new reality series titled Bomb Patrol: Afghanistan based on the Oscar-winning film The Hurt Locker. The series will follow real-life members of the United States Navy who have trained in these high-risk military positions and are authorized to wear the Explosive Ordnance Disposal badge. Big Fish Entertainment is behind the series produced under a special arrangement with the United States Navy. The series is scheduled to premiere next spring.
Steven Spielberg is working alongside Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, producers of Star Trek on a new television series Locke & Key, based on the supernatural comic book series written by Joe Hill (Stephen King’s son). 20th Century Fox Television will produce the project centering on the Locke children as they recover following their father’s murder. The family relocates to an island off of Maine where the youngest child finds a doorway with supernatural qualities.
Meghan Markle landed a lead role on USA Network’s pilot A Legal Mind, cites THR. Markle stars with Patrick Adams as Mike Ross, a smart slacker college student who pretends to be a Manhattan corporate attorney and Gabriel Macht plays the firms recruiter who hires him while Markle plays Rachel Lane, a paralegal who is assigned to Mike and becomes his after-hours research partner.
Andrea Martin joins the Syfy pilot Three Inches as a series regular, per THR. Martin, who has appeared in the film My Big Fat Greek Wedding among other roles, plays Belinda Spackman, the main character’s mother who will do anything to protect her son who has the ability to move any object three inches using his mind. Fox TV Studios is producing the 90m pilot with Bob Cooper as executive producer.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis: ABC zoomed to the finish line first Saturday night at 1.8/7 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. ABC made a clean sweep of the ratings this night with its NASCAR Series at Bristol starting with a 1.8/8 during 8p followed by the two Cops episodes on FOX averaging a 1.1/4. At 9p, ABC delivered a 1.9/7 with its NASCAR race and FOX was #2 with AMW: America Fights Back at 1.4/5. ABC’s NASCAR coverage polished off its final win at 10p with a 1.8/6 while UNIV’s weekly staple Sabado Gigante was next at 0.9/3.

Sunday A18-49 Analysis: NBC spiked a win Sunday night, taking the A18-49 demo with a 3.0/9, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. At 7p, ABC’s tried-and-true America’s Funniest Home Videos won with a rerun at 1.4/5 while CBS’ 60 Minutes encore and NBC’s Dateline tied for #2 at 1.2/4 each. NBC’s NFL Preseason game had the upper hand the rest of the night by posting a 3.8/12 during 8p with CBS’ Big Brother in second place at 2.6/8. NBC’s Preseason NFL bout dipped a little at 9p to a 3.7/11 though still well ahead of next in line FOX with double Family Guy repeats averaging a 2.4/6. NBC’s winning ratings fell to a 3.3/9 at 10p and CBS’ CSI: Miami rebroadcast pulled in a second place showing with a 1.3/4.

CBS’ repeat sitcoms Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory averaged a first place at 2.6/7 and UNIV’s Soy Tu Duena was #2 at 2.2/6.
