Docu-series Confronting goes inside the prison mediation process when the one-hour program premieres on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network September 17 at 10p.  Episodes of Confronting follows the emotional story beginning with a crime followed by the victim and offender as they embark on a transformative journey together coming to terms with the tragic event that binds them.  The offender learns of the pain and suffering caused by their wrong-doing while the victim has a chance to express their feelings and must decide if forgiveness is a possibility.  Confronting is produced for OWN by RelativityREAL.

Discovery Channel’s new series, Carfellas set in the world of a used car business is set to premiere a sneak preview on August 29 at 10p and 1030p directly after a new episode of American Chopper.  The series features Mike DeLucia “Mikey D.” and his used car dealership and is produced by Leftfield Pictures for Discovery Channel.

Beginning later this fall, TNT rolls out the return of four primetime original series as part of the network’s fall/winter schedule:

  • Leverage in its fourth season is back starting November 27 with eight new episodes.
  • The Closer launches five new episodes as part of its seventh and final season on November 28 at 9p.  The Closer will conclude its seventh season with a round of six all-new episodes during summer 2012 followed by the premiere of Major Crimes.
  • A run of five new episodes of Rizzoli & Isles in its second season will be back as of November 28 at 10p.
  • A fourth season of Southland debuts January 17 at 10p with ten episodes.

Updates to Syfy’s fall 2011 schedule were released yesterday:

  • Paranormal Witness is a new original series premiering September 7 at 10p following Ghost Hunters on Wednesdays.
  • Several series season finales are booked this fall: Eureka on September 19 at 8p; first season ender of Alphas on September 26 at 10p; Haven with a sophomore season finale on September 30 at 10p; and Warehouse 13 with a two-hour season three conclusion on October 3 at 9p. 
  • In October, Syfy has three series premieres scheduled: Sanctuary’s season four debuts October 7 at 10p; Scare Tactics on October 10 at 9p; Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files on October 19 at 10p.

A new primetime competition series Sweet Genius on Food Network spotlights master pastry chef Ron Ben-Israel.  Beginning September 22 at 10p, the eight-episode Sweet Genius follows four of America’s top pastry chefs as they compete each week in three different elimination challenges judged by Ben-Israel.  The final chef remaining will win a $10,000 cash prize.  Jane Street Entertainment produces the series. 

New Jerseylicious spin-off series Glam Fairy launches on The Style Network beginning October 23 at 8p.  The 10-episode one-hour series features makeup artist Alexa Prisco as she builds her own business and gains new clients.  Glam Fairy” is produced by Endemol USA for The Style Network.

Sunday’s first season finale of Oxygen’s The Glee Project attracted 1.2 million total viewers. 

Jimmy Kimmel’s real-life uncle, Frank Potenza known as “Uncle Frank” on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! died yesterday at the age of 77.  Mr. Potenza was a former New York policeman, a Korean War veteran and security guard in Las Vegas.  He joined his nephew’s show in 2003 as a security guard and on-air contributor and even re-located to Los Angeles to appear regularly on the show. 

Correction:  In Tuesday’s edition, we inadvertently left out the title of National Geographic Channel’s new series, Rocket City Rednecks which premieres September 28 at 9p and 930p.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & COVERAGE ~

As of this Thursday, Cablevision is adding BBC America, TV One and REELZCHANNEL to its lineup on iO TV as part of the iO Package.  The trio of channels is now offered in some markets as of yesterday and will be available across Cablevision’s entire service by Thursday.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

NBC picked up a one-hour wrestling drama from Jerry Bruckheimer and former pro wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock.  Johnson is on board as an executive producer.  NBC gave the period project about the world of wrestling in the 1980s a put pilot commitment.  Jerry Bruckheimer Television in association with Warner Bros. Television is producing.  Brent Fletcher and Seamus Kevin Fahey are co-executive producers and writers and KristieAnne Reed is also a co-executive producer.  Bruckheimer TV’s Jonathan Littman is also on board as an executive producer.

FOX also has a drama project on the way from Jim Uhls, writer on Fight Club, per Variety.  The project is titled Tightrope about an FBI agent who has extraordinary ability at finding, turning and using criminal informants, making them over to be completely trustworthy.  20th Century Fox Television and Chernin Entertainment are producing with Uhls serving as executive producer with Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope. 

A single-camera comedy script from Sony Pictures Television and Adam Sandler’s company Happy Madison was nabbed by ABC, reports Variety.  The comedy plot is set in 2016 about a guy who thinks his life is perfect until he’s struck by lightning which takes him back to the year 2011.  Daniel Sweren-Becker is penning the script and he will be executive producer along with Doug Robinson and Steve Carr. 

Rev. Al Sharpton lands an official role as host of a nightly talk forum on MSNBC.  For several weeks, Sharpton has been guest hosting during the network’s Live at 6 p.m. show and yesterday the network said he will take over that time period as host permanently.  Sharpton’s program is titled PoliticsNation and it debuts next Monday. 

Fresh off his stint on TNT’s cancelled drama Men of a Certain Age, Andre Braugher may be up for a recurring role on NBC’s Law & Order: SVU.  Braugher is in negotiations now to play an attorney for the underprivileged who may get close to Det. Benson (Mariska Hargitay). 

Isaiah Mustafa was cast in a recurring role on ABC’s upcoming remake of Charlie’s Angels.  Mustafa will play Det. Ray Goodson, a handsome cop who used to date and be engaged to Angel Kate (Annie Ilonzeh).  Charlie’s Angels debuts September 22 at 8p on ABC.  Mustafa will make his first appearance on the series in about the fourth episode.

E! Entertainment signed TV personality Ross Mathews to a comprehensive agreement involving the development of a new pilot and additionally expands his on-air duties for the network.  Mathews will continue to be a regular guest on E!’s Chelsea Lately and he will also be a guest correspondent for the network’s franchises Live from the Red Carpet and E! News.  Mathews pilot deal with the network also involves Borderline Amazing Productions.

Casting Call: Producers of Mad Scientist’s & Inventors Workshop are searching for backyard/garage inventors who would like their own inventions/creations highlighted in the show’s pilot episode.  The show will help the inventor in areas such as marketing, promotions and funding in addition to taping the process, the inventor and the item for segment inclusion on the program and promotional use by the inventor. Saturday A18-49 Analysis:   A three-way tie for #1 occurred Saturday between CBS, FOX and NBC at 0.8/3 each among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.  FOX won at 8p with the average of double Cops repeat episodes at 1.0/4 and CBS got the silver medal with its US Champion Gymnastics at 0.7/3.  FOX was the champ again at 9p with the average of American Dad and The Cleveland Show in reruns at 1.0/3 and CBS’ with Crimetime Saturday rebroadcast was next at 0.9/3.  CBS then took over first place during 10p with a 48 Hours Mystery encore at 1.1/4 followed by Univision’s Sabado Gigante at 0.8/3.

Sunday A18-49 Analysis:  NBC scored the winning ratings Sunday at 3.0/9 with the A18-49 viewers, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.  NBC’s Dateline did best at 7p with a 1.3/4 followed closely by a rerun of America’s Funniest Home Videos on ABC at 1.2/4.  NBC’s NFL Pre-Season game between San Diego at Dallas spiked in a win at 8p with a 3.4/11 and CBS’ Big Brother, usually the time period winner was #2 at 3.2/9.  NBC’s NFL Pre-Season game continued in first place during 9p with a 4.0/11 and Univision’s Pequenos Gigantes was next at 1.9/5.  NBC finished the night a victor with the final of its NFL Pre-Season game coverage at 3.5/10 and ABC’s 20/20: Sixth Sense delivered a 1.4/4 in second place.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Psychiatrist and media personality Dr. Janet Taylor tapped as Head of Guest Support Services Team on The Jeremy Kyle Show premiering September 19 in more than 90% of the US.  The show is from distributor Debmar-Mercury and producer ITV Studios America.

Full-service creative services advertising agency, KO Creative hired Teall Barnes as Director/Business Development.  Teall’s new job will have her work with internal creative teams and entertainment companies to develop and executive various marketing tools. 

Effective immediately, Indianapolis-based advertising agency Young & Laramore (Y&L) added two to its team: Joe Botich at EchoPoint Media, a unit of Y&L as a Digital Media Strategist and Brad Bobenmoyer at Y&L as an Account Director.  Joe will report to Sue Doron, EchoPoint Media Director and Carolyn Hadlock, Y&L Executive Creative Director.  Brad will focus on the Stanley Steemer and Farm Bureau Insurance accounts for Y&L, reporting to Barbara Biancalana, Director/Account Management.

Former BBDO Atlanta executive Kyle Lewis joins Modea, an independent digital advertising agency as Executive Creative Director.  In his new position, Kyle will work in tandem with Co-Founder David Catalano to expand the agency’s creative department and its capabilities.  Kyle also reports to David Catalano. 

Don Gorski was hired by Intersport as SVP/Media Sales, effective immediately.  Don will be located at the company’s New York office. 

Lori Neuhardt rejoins ABC News as Design Director for ABC News Digital.  Lori’s scope will head the creative and design team at ABC News Digital.  Most recently, Lori was with NBCUniversal Digital Studio as Art Director/Creative Director.

Big Fuel Detroit added Robert Anderson as EVP/Managing Director.  At Big Fuel, Robert will report to Jon Bond.  Prior to this appointment, Robert worked for Rapp Dallas where he served as Executive Creative Director. 

Michael Hazan moved to JUMA Entertainment in the role as Head/Development, West Coast and Co-Executive Producer.  Michael reports to Robert Horowitz, President, JUMA Entertainment.  Alaina Killoch and Dionne Clifton, both development executives at JUMA will now report to Michael Hazan.  The company also is transferring Lewis Fenton to its New Hope, PA offices to manage the company’s expansion in the East.

Rob Spodek promoted to SVP/CFO for NBCU’s Syfy and Chiller where he will be in charge of all financial facets of Syfy and Chiller as well as Syfy Ventures and other associated projects.  Based in New York, Rob reports to Dave Howe, President, Syfy and Chiller. 

Caroline Giegerich elevated to VP/Innovations with Initiative in the company’s Los Angeles office.  Caroline will spearhead the company’s future operations and clients’ needs by researching cutting-edge emerging platforms and new content in an effort to reach the client’s target audience.
