A shift is happening in late-night on ABC beginning January 8 as Jimmy Kimmel Live will move to 1135p. This move will put Jimmy Kimmel Live in direct competition against The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on NBC and CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman. ABC’s Nightline will then shift to 1235a. The moves are also timed to happen following promotions included in ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest and ESPN’s Bowl Championship Series which concludes with the National Championship Game on January 7. In addition, Nightline will expand its programming with a move into primetime on Friday nights at 9p starting March 1. The ABC News series, What Would You Do? will also have a spot on the network’s schedule.
Also for ABC, it is being reported Michael Strahan will become the new co-host of LIVE! working with Kelly Ripa. Strahan is expected to keep his role with Fox NFL Sunday, according to The Los Angeles Times. The morning show on ABC has been without a permanent co-host for Ripa since Regis Philbin left the show in November 2011. Strahan has been one of the numerous guest co-hosts since then. ABC has not made this news official.
NBC’s comedy series The Office will end after the upcoming ninth season said executive producer Greg Daniels yesterday. Daniels headed the series during its first five seasons and will return as showrunner for the final season. Daniels further said the final season will have “familiar faces coming back” as well as two new characters in Jake Lacy and Clark Duke and a conclusion that will answer the series-long questions. The Office’s final season debuts September 20 at 9p.
To promote its new drama series Elementary, premiering September 27 at 10p, CBS is partnering with Grubwithus in a promotion that connects people at Sherlock-themed dinners held at English pubs and restaurants in 10 cities across the nation. Sherlock fans will receive a preview DVD of Elementary in advance of their dining experience. The Sherlock-themed dinners will happen September 13 in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Boston, Seattle, Atlanta and Dallas. Veteran actor, Dick Van Dyke will receive the SAG Life Achievement Award for his career achievements and humanitarian accomplishments. Van Dyke will be presented with this award at the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards airing live on TNT and TBS January 27 at 8p. A winner of five Emmys, a Tony Award and a Grammy, Van Dyke is best known as star of the 1960s comedy series The Dick Van Dyke Show and the film classic Mary Poppins.
National Geographic Channel premieres the new nine-episode series Family Guns September 12 at 10p. The series introduces viewers to father-son duo Christian and Alex Cranmer who trek around the world in search of military antiquities to sell at their business, International Military Antiques. Family Guns is produced for NGC by Firecracker Films.
A new Travel Channel original series, Dangerous Grounds follows coffee magnate and adventurer Todd Carmichael as he criss-crosses the globe in pursuit of rare coffee beans in some of the most remote places in the world. Dangerous Grounds bows November 5 at 10p and following the premiere moves to its regular time slot of Tuesdays at 9p starting November 13. The premiere episode will also air following the series finale of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations. The eight-episode, one-hour series is produced Nancy Glass Productions for Travel Channel.
Veria Living is bringing back dog trainer to the stars, Tyson Kilmer as host of the series Natural Companions. The new season of Natural Companions begins September 9 at 7p and highlights stories about people and their pets, holistic tips and advice on pet care topics such as nutrition, grooming, general wellness and the emotional health and exercise of pets.
Later this fall, VH1 brings back a trio of installments of its original music franchise, VH1 Storytellers which profiles artists and features their live performances. Spotlighted artists during three back-to-back nights include Taylor Swift on November 11 at 11p; Alicia Keys on November 12 at 11p; and Pink on November 13 at 11p.
A fourth season of Debmar-Mercury’s The Wendy Willliams Show will launch in national syndication September 10 in hi-def. In store for the show’s new season are set enhancements using Williams’ signature colors of pink and purple. The daytime talk show also received market upgrades in San Francisco, Miami, Denver, Kansas City, Fresno and Greenville, SC/Asheville, NC.
BBC America’s first original scripted series Copper launched on Sunday and has become the network’s highest-rated series premiere ever. The debut of Copper at 10p tallied 1.1 million total viewers and more than half a million A25-54 viewers. Copper is produced by Cineflix Inc. in association with BBC America.
New reality series R&B Divas on TV One delivered the most-watched original premiere in the history of the network on Monday. The debut episode posted a 0.76 rating and 479,000 viewers among A25-54 as well as close to 900,000 total viewers. R&B Divas, produced by Thinkfactory Media airs on Mondays at 10p.
Also on Monday, VH1’s season finale of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta delivered a series high rating with the A18-49 viewers at 2.4. The 8p season ender also drew 3.7 million total viewers at 8p and the 10p encore brought in another 1.8 million total viewers for a combined total of 5.5 million viewers for the night.
The summer finale of Bunheads aired Monday on ABC Family and attracted 1.5 million total viewers; 750,000 with A18-49 and 577,000 among W18-49.
This September, weekly series Bloopers launches in national syndication from Dick Clark Productions and Trifecta Entertainment & Media. Hosted by Dean Cain, the program will air in two back-to-back half-hour episodes and has been cleared on TV stations in more than 90% of the US. Tribune and Local stations airing Bloopers include WPIX/New York, KTLA/Los Angeles, WGN/Chicago, KDAF/Dallas, WDCW/Washington, DC, KIAH/Houston, KCPQ-KZJO/Seattle, WSFL/Miami and WJW/Cleveland. Bloopers will additionally air on Tribune’s WGN America. Other station groups picking up the show are Sinclair Broadcast Group for WTTA/Tampa, WUCW/Minneapolis, WPGH-WPMY/Pittsburgh and WBFF-WNUV/Baltimore; the station groups CBS, Raycom, Lin, Newport, Gannett, Belo, Weigel, Meredith and Gray also picked up the series. Trifecta Entertainment & media is also involved with all ad sales for Bloopers.

FOX handed a pilot production commitment to an untitled comedy project from Mike Schur and Dan Goor (Parks and Recreation). The project, which was fought over by multiple networks, is described as a detective comedy set inside the NYPD which will be produced by U TV and 3 Arts Entertainment. Goor and Schur are co-writers on the script and they will executive produce along with David Miner.
A new version of the classic TV series, Have Gun – Will Travel was handed a script deal by CBS with writer David Mamet on board as writer and EP along with non-writing EP Elliott Webb. If the pilot is ordered, Mamet will also direct. Have Gun – Will Travel originally ran on CBS from 1957-1963 starring Richard Boone. CBS TV Studios is producing the new version.
Production on TLC’s new series Vegas High Rollers (wt) has begun in Las Vegas. The series follows five high-powered women who operate influential businesses in Vegas. TLC ordered eight one-hour episodes produced by Evolution Media. The network has tentatively slated the series to bow in December.
Dallas Roberts, who most recently appeared on CBS’ The Good Wife as Juliana Margulies’ brother, landed a role on AMC’s The Walking Dead, per EW. Roberts will play the smart right-hand man of David Morrissey’s Governor character. The third season of The Walking Dead opens on AMC October 14.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis: ABC slipped in a narrow win Saturday at 0.7/3 with the A18-49 viewers, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, FOX’s double repeat Cops episodes averaged a top-rated 0.7/3 followed by ABC’s Saturday Movie of the Week at 0.6/2. ABC then moved up to first place during 9p with its Saturday Movie of the Week at 1.0/3 and CBS’ Crimetime Saturday encore was next at 0.7/2. It was CBS’ turn in the winner’s circle at 10p as a 48 Hours Mystery rerun did best at 0.8/3 and Univision’s Sabado Gigante was a step behind at 0.7/2.

Bounce TV tapped Billy Hall in the newly-minted role as EVP/Programming and Production where he will supervise all scheduling, program planning, acquisitions, operations and original production for the network. In his new role, Billy reports to Jonathan Katz, Bounce TV’s COO. Billy joins Bounce TV from Turner Entertainment Networks, Inc.
Telepictures Productions upped David McGuire to EVP/Current Programming. In his new role, David will continue to manage all facets of programming for Telepictures’ current slate of shows that include The Ellen DeGeneres Show, TMZ, Judge Mathis and The People’s Court as well as the new interactive game show, Let’s Ask America debuting on Scripps stations this fall. David is also involved with creating brand extensions and works with the development team to identify new talent and platforms among other duties. He continues to report to Hilary Estey McLoughlin, President.
Shine America moved Chris Culvenor into the new role as SVP/Development. Chris has been with Shine America’s sister company Shine Australia and now at the Los Angeles-based office will oversee daily unscripted development while reporting to Shine America President Eden Gaha. Furthermore, Christie McConnell joined Shine America as VP/Development. Christie joins from Stephen David Entertainment where she was VP/Development since 2010.
Former FUEL TV executive, Lorey Zlotnick was named SVP/Marketing at Outdoor Channel. Lorey will head and execute all marketing and branding efforts on behalf of the network and its multiplatform assets. Based in Los Angeles, Lorey will report to Tom Hornish, President/CEO.
David Schaefer, formerly with Discovery Communications, will head to Golf Channel in the newly-created role as VP/Communications. David will oversee the network’s communications team working closely with Dan Higgins and Jeremy Friedman. He will report to Golf Channel President Mike McCarley and be located at the network’s studios in Orlando.
After more than 25 years with ABC News, Senior Executive Producer Jon Banner will be departing the network and the news business. Jon will join PepsiCo’s Global Communications Team as SVP/Global Strategy and Planning. Jon has been involved with ABC News’ World News and This Week and succeeding him will be Senior Executive Producer Marc Burstein who will lead the network’s political coverage as well as Special Events until a new Executive Producer is named.
National Geographic Channel (NGC) promoted Michael Mavretic to Senior Director/Global Development, reporting to Kevin Mohs, VP/Production and Development. NGC in addition advanced Emily Cooper to Director/Ad Sales Marketing and Product Integration, reporting to Josh King, VP/Ad Sales Marketing.
