A shift is happening in late-night on ABC beginning January 8 as Jimmy Kimmel Live will move to 1135p.  This move will put Jimmy Kimmel Live in direct competition against The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on NBC and CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman.  ABC’s Nightline will then shift to 1235a.  The moves are also timed to happen following promotions included in ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest and ESPN’s Bowl Championship Series which concludes with the National Championship Game on January 7.  In addition, Nightline will expand its programming with a move into primetime on Friday nights at 9p starting March 1.  The ABC News series, What Would You Do? will also have a spot on the network’s schedule.

Also for ABC, it is being reported Michael Strahan will become the new co-host of LIVE! working with Kelly Ripa.  Strahan is expected to keep his role with Fox NFL Sunday, according to The Los Angeles Times.  The morning show on ABC has been without a permanent co-host for Ripa since Regis Philbin left the show in November 2011.  Strahan has been one of the numerous guest co-hosts since then.  ABC has not made this news official.

NBC’s comedy series The Office will end after the upcoming ninth season said executive producer Greg Daniels yesterday.  Daniels headed the series during its first five seasons and will return as showrunner for the final season.  Daniels further said the final season will have “familiar faces coming back” as well as two new characters in Jake Lacy and Clark Duke and a conclusion that will answer the series-long questions.  The Office’s final season debuts September 20 at 9p.

To promote its new drama series Elementary, premiering September 27 at 10p, CBS is partnering with Grubwithus in a promotion that connects people at Sherlock-themed dinners held at English pubs and restaurants in 10 cities across the nation.  Sherlock fans will receive a preview DVD of Elementary in advance of their dining experience.  The Sherlock-themed dinners will happen September 13 in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Boston, Seattle, Atlanta and Dallas.  More details can be found at: http://www.grubwithus.com/elementary.

Veteran actor, Dick Van Dyke will receive the SAG Life Achievement Award for his career achievements and humanitarian accomplishments.  Van Dyke will be presented with this award at the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards airing live on TNT and TBS January 27 at 8p.  A winner of five Emmys, a Tony Award and a Grammy, Van Dyke is best known as star of the 1960s comedy series The Dick Van Dyke Show and the film classic Mary Poppins.

National Geographic Channel premieres the new nine-episode series Family Guns September 12 at 10p.  The series introduces viewers to father-son duo Christian and Alex Cranmer who trek around the world in search of military antiquities to sell at their business, International Military Antiques.  Family Guns is produced for NGC by Firecracker Films.

A new Travel Channel original series, Dangerous Grounds follows coffee magnate and adventurer Todd Carmichael as he criss-crosses the globe in pursuit of rare coffee beans in some of the most remote places in the world.  Dangerous Grounds bows November 5 at 10p and following the premiere moves to its regular time slot of Tuesdays at 9p starting November 13. The premiere episode will also air following the series finale of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations.  The eight-episode, one-hour series is produced Nancy Glass Productions for Travel Channel.

Veria Living is bringing back dog trainer to the stars, Tyson Kilmer as host of the series Natural Companions.  The new season of Natural Companions begins September 9 at 7p and highlights stories about people and their pets, holistic tips and advice on pet care topics such as nutrition, grooming, general wellness and the emotional health and exercise of pets.

Later this fall, VH1 brings back a trio of installments of its original music franchise, VH1 Storytellers which profiles artists and features their live performances.  Spotlighted artists during three back-to-back nights include Taylor Swift on November 11 at 11p; Alicia Keys on November 12 at 11p; and Pink on November 13 at 11p.

A fourth season of Debmar-Mercury’s The Wendy Willliams Show will launch in national syndication September 10 in hi-def.  In store for the show’s new season are set enhancements using Williams’ signature colors of pink and purple.  The daytime talk show also received market upgrades in San Francisco, Miami, Denver, Kansas City, Fresno and Greenville, SC/Asheville, NC.

BBC America’s first original scripted series Copper launched on Sunday and has become the network’s highest-rated series premiere ever.  The debut of Copper at 10p tallied 1.1 million total viewers and more than half a million A25-54 viewers.  Copper is produced by Cineflix Inc. in association with BBC America.

~PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

FOX handed a pilot production commitment to an untitled comedy project from Mike Schur and Dan Goor (Parks and Recreation).  The project, which was fought over by multiple networks, is described as a detective comedy set inside the NYPD which will be produced by U TV and 3 Arts Entertainment.  Goor and Schur are co-writers on the script and they will executive produce along with David Miner.

A new version of the classic TV series, Have Gun – Will Travel was handed a script deal by CBS with writer David Mamet on board as writer and EP along with non-writing EP Elliott Webb.  If the pilot is ordered, Mamet will also direct.  Have Gun – Will Travel originally ran on CBS from 1957-1963 starring Richard Boone.  CBS TV Studios is producing the new version.

Production on TLC’s new series Vegas High Rollers (wt) has begun in Las Vegas.  The series follows five high-powered women who operate influential businesses in Vegas.  TLC ordered eight one-hour episodes produced by Evolution Media.  The network has tentatively slated the series to bow in December.
