CNBC: American Greed: The Fugitives at 8p

~ MORE STUFF ~

ABC is pulling the last two episodes of its improv series, Trust Us With Your Life that featured actor/comedian Fred Willard.  This move comes after Willard’s recent arrest in Hollywood.  ABC will fill the Tuesday spot with repeats of Wipeout. 

National Geographic Channel’s upcoming new series, Abandoned follows expert craftsman and collector Jay Chaikin as he searches nationwide for abandoned buildings that may house surprising valuable artifacts.  The 12-part series watches as Jay and his partners Dan Graham and Mark Pakenas search through basements and structurally unsafe buildings from a former Pabst Brewing headquarters in Milwaukee to a historic church in Philadelphia.  Produced by Picture Shack Entertainment for the National Geographic Channel, the series Abandoned premieres August 22 at 9p.

In September, Current TV welcomes Joy Behar to the network in her new one-hour nightly series, Joy Behar: Say Anything!  The series, which will share Behar’s perspective on politics, religion, social issues and pop culture, will air Monday through Thursday at 6p with an encore airing later the same evening.  Joy Behar: Say Anything! debuts September 4 at 6p.

In addition to renewing Braxton Family Values for a third season, WE tv revealed it will premiere the show’s first spinoff series, Tamar & Vince on September 20 at 10p.  In the new series, the youngest Braxton sister, Tamar is spotlighted as she pursues a music career with help from her music producer husband, Vince Herbert.  Tamar & Vince consists of ten one-hour episodes produced by Magical Elves.  Braxton Family Values, also produced by Magical Elves returns with season three in first quarter 2013.  Furthermore, on September 8, WE tv debuts the fifth season of My Fair Wedding: Unveiled with 14 one-hour episodes at 9p produced by Pilgrim Studios and a third season of Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best? produced by Pie Town Productions with eight one-hour episodes bows in first quarter 2013. 

Original reality series Nail Files will have a second season on TV Guide Network starting August 19 at 930p.  The new season launches with a branded mobile spa tour that takes series star and celebrity nail salon owner of Hollywood’s The Painted Nail, Katie Cazorla to viewers in ten cities across the nation.  For a complete listing of the tour cities, dates and times, please visit the network’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TVGuideNetwork.

Also on August 19, filmmaker and adventurer, Les Stroud is back on Discovery Channel when all-new episodes of Survivorman bow at 8p.  Stroud travels to untamed locations with no food, water or crew and must rely on his own instincts and years of experience to survive.  He also carries with him film equipment to document his experiences and each location is related in two one-hour episodes.  Survivorman is produced by Survivorman Productions, Inc. for Discovery Channel.

A third season of Beyond Scared Straight returns to A&E Network’s schedule August 23 at 10p.  The series is based on the Emmy Award-winning documentary film by Arnold Shapiro and follows at-risk teens that are in trouble because of theft, fighting, gambling or other infractions and are forced to spend a day in jail.  As a result, some teens change for the better while others remain unchanged.  Arnold Shapiro Productions are behind the series produced for A&E Network.

Before its second season launch in syndication on September 10, Warner Bros.’ Anderson is receiving some tweaks and adding more live elements, reports B&C.  The talk show, starring CNN anchor Anderson Cooper is changing its name to Anderson Live.  Further changes include taping the show in front of a live studio audience and as previously- announced the show will feature different co-hosts each day.  The show also has a new co-executive producer as George Davilas is joining from his previous post as senior supervising producer at CBS Television Distribution’s The Doctors.  Celebrities booked for the second season include Richard Gere, Emma Watson, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Mindy Kaling, Kerry Washington and Stephen Colbert.  TV stations cleared to air Anderson Live have received new promos revealing the changes to season two that will begin airing today.  Furthermore, the show’s website will sport new features such as month-long photo sharing contest beginning August 6 and more social media initiatives are in store like Anderson Seat Tweets where fans attending the show will send out live tweets during the show.

Character actor R. G. Armstrong, Jr. remembered for his guest stints on many classic TV Westerns, died last Friday at his home in Studio City, CA.  He was 95.  Mr. Armstrong’s career spanned fifty years and included guest starring roles on such Western TV shows from the 1950s and 1960s as Have Gun – Will Travel to Gunsmoke.  Mr. Armstrong also appeared in a number of films in the Western genre including Ride the High Country, Major Dundee as well as many non-Western films such as The Great White Hope and Predator as well as roles in three Warren Beatty films: Heaven Can Wait, Reds and Dick Tracy.  Other non-Western TV roles include those in The Twilight Zone and The Andy Griffith Show.  Mr. Armstrong is survived by four daughters; a son; and five grandchildren.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CARRIAGE & CLEARANCE ~

Toronto and Los Angeles-based Tricon Films & Television boasts several series sales and DVD licensing partnerships:  Metal Evolution (11x60m) was picked up by IMusic TV Germany, Viacom18 India, MusiquePlus in French Canada and in addition, Tricon has partnered for DVD rights for the series with Atlantic Films Sweden for Scandinavia, Polyband for Germany and Beyond Entertainment for Australia and New Zealand; factual series Game Changers (8x30m) was acquired by Discovery EMEA and NAT GEO (Italy); and docu-series Cover Stories (13x30m) will be seen on TVNZ New Zealand.

Asian American entertainment network, Myx TV has launched on Time Warner Cable in the New York City and New Jersey service areas.  Myx TV is part of Time Warner Cable’s Digital TV package.

As of this Monday, Me-TV Network adds a few more affiliates to its roster: KTVX/Salt Lake City and KOKI/Tulsa.  On September 10, WSYR/Syracuse will also carry Me-TV.  All three stations are owned by Newport Television. Me-TV Network now clears in more than 82% of the US with more than 129 affiliates.

Upcoming action/drama series Last Resort on ABC added Jay Karnes (FX’s The Shield) in a recurring role portraying the Secretary of Defense.  Shawn Ryan is the co-creator of Last Resort and he was also the creator of FX’s former series The Shield which co-starred Karnes. 

CBS handed a script commitment for a new version of The Brady Bunch with Vince Vaughn on board as executive producer.  The new multi-camera comedy reboot would center on the youngest Brady son, Bobby Brady who remarries and starts a new family.  Mike Mariano (Raising Hope) will write the script and serve as EP along with Lloyd Schwartz, son of the late Sherwood Schwartz who created the original ABC sitcom which aired from 1969-1974.  Vaughn, Victoria Vaughn and Peter Billingsley will also executive produce through Vaughn’s Wild West Picture Show Productions. 

Submissions Call: HGTV and online pop culture destination, Paste are partnering for the first time to give an artist or a band the chance to become the new sound of HGTV.  Until September 5, 2012 at 5p ET, musicians can submit their original songs at hgtv.pastemagazine.com for the chance to have their song selected to become HGTV’s new sound for the upcoming House Hunters International marketing and promotional campaign.  The Be The New Sound of HGTV grand prize package includes: artist/band credit in HGTV’s press and promotional announcements for the campaign; a booking to play a Paste event during the 2013 SXSW Music Conference in August, TX; a session booking to play one of Daytrotter’s recording studio outposts; and a Live from Paste booking at Paste’s Decatur, GA headquarters or another location.  Nine additional finalists may possibly have their music featured on HGTV.   The winner will be selected in September.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis:  NBC delivered ratings gold Saturday among A18-49 with an 8.8/30, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  NBC’s primetime coverage of the Summer Olympics posted a 7.0/25 starting at 830p with the double repeat Cops episodes on FOX placing second for the 8p hour at an average of 0.6/2.  At 9p, NBC’s Summer Olympics beat all with an 8.9/30 while ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition encore and Univision’s Sabado Gigante tied for #2 at 0.6/2 apiece.  NBC’s Summer Olympics did best during the 10p hour at 9.5/31 and Univision was a distant #2 with Sabado Gigante at 0.7/2.

Sunday A18-49 Analysis:  NBC surpassed the competition Sunday in a big way delivering an 11.6/32, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  NBC opened primetime with its Summer Olympics coverage from London by winning the 7p hour at 8.1/27 and Univision’s Familia P. Luche trailed next at 1.0/3.  At 8p, NBC’s Summer Olympics ratings rose to an 11.3/32 and CBS’ Big Brother moved into second place at 1.9/5.  NBC continued to dominate through 9p with more Summer Olympics coverage at 13.3/33 followed this hour by double Family Guy repeats on FOX at an average of 1.6/4.  NBC’s ratings for the Summer Olympics kicked up a notch to a 13.4/34 during 10p while a three-way tie happened for the second spot between CBS’ The Mentalist rerun, Telemundo’s Cine de Impacto and Univision’s Sal y Pimienta at 0.7/2 each.

Monday A18-49 Analysis:  NBC held the limelight and the A18-49 viewers Monday with a 10.6/29, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  At 8p, NBC’s Summer Olympics coverage won at 8.7/26 followed at a distance by ABC’s Bachelor Pad at 1.2/3.  During 9p, NBC’s  Summer Olympics jumped in the ratings to an 11.3/29 followed by Univision’s Abismo de Pasion at 1.5/4.  NBC polished off the final big win of the night at 10p as the Summer Olympics delivered an 11.9/31 and Univision remained in second place with La Que No Podia Amar at 1.9/5.

James Dumlao was appointed Head/Operations in the Philippines by Sony Pictures Television Networks, Asia.  James will supervise the company’s local team in addition to all strategic operations and brand-building facets of the business.  Based in Manila, James will report to Hui Keng Ang, SVP/Business Operations and Head/Asian Content, Networks, Asia, Sony Pictures Television.

CINE, the film, television and digital media non-profit organization based in Washington, DC area and founded in 1957 and its Board of Directors, has elected new leadership for 2012-2013.  Mathew Tombers, Managing Director of Intermat TV will become the new Board President and Gary Lico, President/CEO of CABLEready will become VP of the Board.
