~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

ABC made an affiliation deal with Lockwood Broadcast Group to have an ABC affiliate in the Sherman, TX-Ada, OK market on digital channel, KTEN. Furthermore, the deal includes ABC Texoma producing local news coverage for the marketing. The new ABC affiliate will launch next month.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Discovery Channel announced a three-way, multi-year partnership involving Wild Horizons, Ltd. and Keith Scholey, the former head of the BBC’s Natural History Unit, to produce the docu-series Wild Planet: North America. The seven-part docu-series will showcase amazing natural elements found on the North American continent such as Canada’s polar ice caps to Mexico’s subtropics and all the diverse habitats and wildlife in between. Hi-def cameras will be positioned on top of gigantic sequoias and also inside Carlsbad Cavern and high-speed cameras will be deployed to move and fly with animals. Wild Planet: North America is produced by Wild Horizons, Ltd. for Discovery Channel. Keith Scholey will serve as executive producer along with Paul Gasek for the network. Discovery Enterprises International is handling pre-sales at this year’s MIPTV.

AMC tapped Andrew Lincoln as the lead for its upcoming zombie thriller series The Walking Dead. Lincoln’s character, Rick Grimes is a small-town cop who heads a group of survivors against a world filled with zombies. Production on The Walking Dead begins this June in Atlanta. The series, with six episodes, is slated to premiere in October as part of AMC’s movie franchise, Fearfest.

Maura Tierney will reprise her role as Kelly McPhee in FX’s Rescue Me, reports TV Guide.com. Tierney, who had left Rescue Me after the show’s fifth season ended, landed a role in NBC’s series Parenthood but had to bow out before production started due to her breast cancer treatment schedule. According to her publicist, Tierney has finished her cancer treatments and is doing well. Tierney has begun filming on the set of Rescue Me though due to both seasons six and seven being shot back-to-back, her character won’t appear on the show until season 7 airs in 2011. The sixth season of Rescue Me premieres in late June on FX.

Veteran TV actress, Sharon Lawrence will next appear on CBS’ comedy pilot Hitched from Josh Schwartz, per THR. Lawrence will play the well-meaning though nosy mother of Rachel, one half of a newlywed couple dealing with their family and friends.

ABC ordered a new game show titled Downfall from Fremantle Media North America. The show’s twist will have contestants answering trivia questions on top of a skyscraper in a major city and trying to win $1 million in cash and prizes. The losing players will see their winnings go off the side of the building. ABC plans on premiering Downfall this summer. Chris Ahern and Graham Shaw will serve as supervising producers.

Professional criminal profiler and expert witness, Mark SaFarik made a deal with NBC’s Peacock Productions for a future docu-series now in development. SaFarik was a senior member of the FBI’s exclusive Behavioral Analysis Unit with a significant career spanning more than 30 years with 23 years in the FBI. He has made appearances on a number of television shows and networks such as Dateline, Forensic Files and is currently an analyst on the MSNBC series Criminal Mindscape as he interviews serial killers.
