~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Tyler Perry lands another new series on TBS as the network ordered the 10-episode dramedy series Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse aiming at young adults.  The series is based on Perry’s popular films Why Did I Get Married? and is his third series for TBS which also airs Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and Meet the Browns.  Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse centers on the married life of Marcus and Angela, two characters from his films Why Did I Get Married? and Why Did I Get Married Too? Michael Jai White and Tasha Smith will star in the television series reprising their roles from the films.  Other cast members will be announced later. For Better or Worse will follow the syndication pattern of Perry’s other two TBS series and will be sold by Debmar Mercury.  Atlanta-based Tyler Perry Studios is producing the series.

Production has started in the UK on a new supernatural drama, The Fades co-produced by BBC America.  The series with six one-hour episodes stars Lily Loveless and Daniel Kaluuya, both formerly of Skins, about a reluctant teenage hero, Paul (Iain De Caestecker) who is haunted by apocalyptic dreams that neither his therapist and best friend, Mac (Kaluuya) nor his twin sister, Anna (Loveless) can explain.  Paul’s dreams intensify as he starts to see spirits of the dead, known as The Fades all around him.  The series is written by Jack Thorne and is a BBC Drama Productions production for BBC America and BBC Three.  Susan Hogg serves as executive producer.

TV Guide Network revealed three series in development for the 2011-2012 season:

  • Embassy Row is behind a new weekly hosted show giving viewers the insider’s look at television shows, movies and celebrities.  The host will anchor the show from a virtual video set.  Michael Davies executive produces.
  • Gossip Cop is a new series inspired by a website of the same name produced by Ish Entertainment.  The series will delve into the most entertaining and outrageous celebrity gossip stories of the week, giving A-list celebrities the chance to sound off against tabloids to set the record straight.  Michael Hirschorn, Dan Abrams and Michael Lewittes will all serve as executive producers.
  • Full Picture Entertainment produces a humorous weekly show highlighting celebrity fashion moments.  The show will include segments such as “The Airport Walk of Shame” and “Dude, Where’s My Fashion.”  Desiree Gruber and Jane Cutler will serve as executive producers.

Elisabeth Harnois bumped to a series regular on CBS’ CSI.  Harnois was originally tapped to guest star in the May 5 episode playing the estranged daughter of Conrad Ecklie (Marc Vann) who works for the LAPD.  The show elevated her role to become a full-time series regular.

USA Network’s Burn Notice added Lauren Stamile (Grey’s Anatomy) in a recurring role for the series’ fifth season. Stamile plays Kim Pearce, a brilliant, unpredictable operative sent by the CIA to investigate a murder and uses Michael (Jeffrey Donovan) to help her find the killer.  Burn Notice will debut season five on June 23.

William Forsythe was cast as a gangster for the new season of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire produced by Martin Scorsese, cites THR.  Forsythe will play the recurring character Manny Horvitz.

Bethany Joy Galeotti renewed her contract for a ninth season of The CW’s One Tree Hill, reports TVLine, despite the series not yet receiving a renewal order.  Additionally, James Lafferty playing leading man Nathan has also not inked a new contract to remain on the show.
