Mad Men, produced by Lionsgate, will continue on Sunday nights at 10p. On August 1, AMC will debut its new original series Rubicon starring James Badge Dale and produced by Warner Horizon Television with two back-to-back 60m episodes at 8p followed by Mad Men at 10p. After its opening night, Rubicon will move to its regular time slot of Sundays at 9p. Beginning June 29, FX will air its drama series Rescue Me as lead in to its new comedy series Louie. The sixth season of Rescue Me with 10 episodes will air on Tuesdays at 10p, followed by the inaugural season of Louie at 11p with 13 episodes produced by 3 Arts Entertainment. Rescue Me, which will end its run after its seventh nine-episode season during the summer of 2011, is produced by Apostle, The Cloudland Company and DreamWorks Television in association with Sony Pictures Television. A&E Network said it will premiere its new scripted crime drama series The Glades (formerly titled Sugarloaf) starting July 13 at 10p, according to THR. The Glades, starring Matt Passmore, Kiele Sanchez and Carlos Gomez, centers on a charming homicide detective from Chicago who is sent to a small Florida town. FOX TV Studios produces. HBO is bringing back Curb Your Enthusiasm for an eighth season helmed by Larry David. Production on the comedy’s ten new episodes will begin this summer in Los Angeles and New York with the new season slated to premiere next year. In other series renewal news, NBC gave new mid-season drama Parenthood a sophomore run for the 2010-2011 season. In its Tuesday 10p time period, Parenthood has averaged a 3.2/9 among A18-49 and 7.8 million viewers since its debut on March 2. Parenthood is produced by Imagine Television and Universal Media Studios. FOX is reupping the long-running series Cops for a 23rd season, cites THR. Cops will air its 800th episode soon and to date the series has witnessed 2,044 arrests in 140 US cities. Investigation Discovery also announced a third season pick-up for its original news magazine program On the Case with Paula Zahn just days after the series’ second season premiered last Sunday. The second season debut episode delivered the network’s second highest total viewer (P2+) audience ever at 659,000. The series is produced by Scott Sternberg Productions and Weinberger Media for ID. TV Land gave the original comedy Retired At 35 a series order with 10 episodes opening first quarter 2011. Retired At 35, headlined by George Segal, is the second scripted comedy series recently approved by TV Land as the new Hot in Cleveland is scheduled to premiere on June 16. HISTORY’s third season finale of Ax Men last Sunday at 10p, drew in 1.6 million A18-49 viewers; 1.8 million A25-54 viewers and 2.9 million total viewers. With all three of these demos, the series yielded its best season to date with ratings up more than 50% over season two. Discovery Channel ended its series run of Life last Sunday at 8p and from its debut on March 21 through the concluding episode April 18, the series reached 78 million viewers (CUME, one-minute qualifier, L+SD). Additionally, Life averaged 2.1 million A18-49 viewers; 2.0 million A25-54 viewers; as well as 4.4 million total viewers. Liberman Broadcasting, Inc. (LBI Media) made a deal with Camino Real Communications, LLC, making KRET-TV in Palm Springs, CA a new affiliate for its Spanish-language network, Estrella TV. This new deal pivots Estrella TV to reaching 75% of Hispanic TV households in the US. Palm Springs ranks as the nation’s 38th largest Hispanic TV market with 63,000 Latino households. Estrella TV now has 21 affiliates and a total market reach of 29. Comedy Central struck individual deals with Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert to continue their contracts as hosts of their series The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report. Stewart will continue with Comedy Central as host of his show through June 2013 in addition to serving as executive producer and writer. Colbert’s contract extension will have him remain with the network through the end of 2012 where he serves as executive producer, writer and host for The Colbert Report produced by Stewart’s Busboy Productions, Inc. in association with Colbert’s Spartina Productions, Inc. Katz Television Group hired Frank Donaldson as SVP/Director of Sales Strategy and Marketing for the company’s National Marketing division. Frank joins from V-me Media where he was SVP/Director of Network Sales. Marc Schacher is now SVP/Programming and News at Chicago-based Barrington Broadcasting Group LLC. In his new role, Marc will supervise news development, program acquisition and scheduling for all stations owned by Barrington. Marc previously was SVP/Programming and Development at Tribune Broadcasting. Well done Marc! WGN America expanded its Sales and Planning unit by adding John Carrozza as VP/Strategic Sales and Planning beginning April 19. John will be in charge of pricing, planning and the oversight process of ad deals on behalf of WGN America. He reports to David Rotem, SVP/Sales and Marketing. Additionally, the network elevated Dana Bernard to Director/Strategic Sales and Planning, effective immediately where she will be involved with setting the upfront and scatter forecasting as well as optimizing the inventory. Dana reports to John Carrozza. Both John and Dana are based at WGN America’s New York office. Starz Media appointed Carmi Zlotnick as Managing Director/Starz Media and John Penney as EVP/Strategy and Business Development for Starz, LLC. Carmi will head production for the company’s original series including Spartacus: Blood and Sand and new drama series Camelot. Based in Beverly Hills, Carmi reports to Chris Albrecht, President/CEO, Starz.
