USA Network revealed the summer premiere dates for its original series that air across five nights each week. New six-part miniseries Political Animals from Greg Berlanti and Laurence Mark will air Sundays in July. Royal Pains and Necessary Roughness return to the schedule on Wednesdays starting June 6 at 9p and 10p respectively. Burn Notice is back along with the drama Suits on Thursdays beginning June 14 at 9p and 10p and new seasons of White Collar and Covert Affairs fill up Tuesday nights starting July 10 at 9p and 10p. USA Network is also premiering new original series Common Law on May 11 at 10p.
The season finale of Shahs of Sunset last Sunday on Bravo become the most watched episode of the series’ season with more than 1.5 million total viewers and 1.0 million among A18-49. Bravo has also approved a second season of Shahs of Sunset produced by Ryan Seacrest Productions.
Horror and thriller cable network FEARnet renewed its scripted series Holliston for a second season. The comedy set in the 1980s and created by and starring Adam Green, will premiere season two in summer 2013.
Harlem-based broadcast multi-media company, Urban Broadcasting Company inked a national cable and satellite distribution agreements to launch a new Urban Lifestyle cable network. UBC-TV will offer original urban lifestyle programming distributed via multiple platforms including cable, VOD, set-top boxes, mobile, wireless devices, social media among others. Programming content will consists of UBC Originals such as news, entertainment, business, fashion, health and fitness, sports, cooking, live concerts, talk shows and UBC-TV specials. Later, UBC-TV, under a Phase II plan, will add films, comedy, music, history, dramas and unique reality formats. For its distribution, UBC-TV has partnered with Simply Me to establish distribution through DISH Network, Time Warner Cable and Comcast. Furthermore, UBC-TV has secured distribution through independent distributors to give the network a primetime presence in addition to VOD and mobile presence tied to social media.
Joy Tashjian Marketing Group (JTMG) was named the licensing agency for the worldwide TV series brand Super Nanny produced by Shed Media US. JTMG will roll out a licensing program covering multiple categories for the show including stationary, interactive media and games created around the central theme to “keep kids and parents on the right track.”

NBC ordered seven episodes of a new unscripted series starring Howie Mandel, titled Howie Mandel’s White Elephant. The series will be based on the well-known holiday game where contestants will select one package from a collection of wrapped gifts containing millions of dollars in prizes. The individual contestant would then have to decide to steal a previously revealed prize or keep their unopened box. The contestant holding the least valuable prize at the end of each round will be eliminated. Mandel will be the host of the series in addition to serving as EP along with Alevy Productions’ Mike Marks. Production has not yet started and a premiere date was not given.
For its 2012 slate, Travel Channel has approved three pilots and is developing two original series. The new pilots include:
- Barn Finds (wt) a half-hour series following antique car aficionado Corky Coker and his team as they road trip through the back roads and small towns in the South to find automotive antiques worth collecting. Produced by BCII.
- Kevin Michael Connolly Project (wt) is a one-hour pilot featuring author, photographer and thrill seeker, Kevin Michael Connolly, who was born without legs though never lets anything get in his way. Connolly is on a quest to discover what the world has to offer from different cultures, people and tackling difficult challenges. From Crazy Legs Production.
- Power Trip with Jason Harper (wt) is another one-hour pilot highlighting Jason Harper, a travel, automobile and lifestyle journalist who travels the world writing about his adventures behind the wheel of amazing vehicles. Produced by Departure Films.
Travel Channels new series in production are:
- Coffee Hunter (wt) focuses on premium coffee company, La Colombe Torrefaction based in Philadelphia and its owner Todd Carmichael. Traveling the world, Carmichael risks dangers to bring back the perfect coffee for his customers who include top chefs and restaurants. Nancy Glass Productions is producing.
- City Swappers (wt) follows two couples who have swapped homes, cars, friends and more as part of their vacation. Produced by Stone Circle Films.
A spinoff series, tentatively titled Big Ang based on the Mob Wives series is in the works at VH1. Angela Raiola, known as Big Ang will gain her own series on VH1 as the network approved 10 half-hour episodes set to premiere this summer. Jennifer Graziano of JustJenn Productions developed the concept for the series which will be produced by The Weinstein Company, Electus and Left/Right.

At 8p, FOX’s NASCAR race led at 2.0/8 followed by ABC’s miniseries Titanic at 0.8/3. During 9p, FOX’s Sprint Cup kept pace at #1 with a 1.9/7 while ABC continued in second with more Titanic at 0.8/3. At 10p, FOX closed the night a winner with the Sprint Cup: Live From Texas at 2.1/7 and CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery stepped into #2 at 1.2/4.

ABC delivered the best ratings at 7p with America’s Funniest Home Videos at 1.6/5 followed by CBS’ 60 Minutes at 1.4/5. CBS led the pack at 8p with The Amazing Race at 2.6/7 and FOX at an average of 2.1/6 for The Simpsons and Bob’s Burgers in second place. FOX then scored a win during 9p as a Family Guy encore and The Cleveland Show averaged a 2.2/6 while NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice was not far behind at 2.0/5.
