And on a side note … some notable things about the MIPTV Market … When I first came to Cannes a few years ago, I was such an extraordinarily savvy international traveler that the first thing I did was take my little hairdryer from home and plug it into the wall socket.  After a quick semi-explosion (and the remaining five days with my hair tied back), I learned one needs to use a proper adapter when traveling abroad.  Okay, so I’m trainable … I bring a myriad of adapters with me now when I travel and all of my electronics are very carefully looked after in the apartment.  But last night the unthinkable happened … my blackberry attempted the breast stroke in a glass of wine.  Naturally it was instantly retrieved, wiped down and checked for life.  Non-responsive.  I performed Blackberry CPR (smacked it several times on the palm of my left hand while holding it in my right), it would temporarily respond, tho my smartphone had clearly lost several brain cells. (If you received an errant email from me and it was, well, not what you expected … now you know why.)   After several hours to dry out overnight, the left side of the blackberry keypad was dull and the clock was off by 47 minutes.  I managed fairly well during the bulk of the day, alternating between smacking and battery removal, until it finally succumbed at around 315pm, and I was instantly and completely out of touch.  No contact list, no appt schedule, and no phone.  I know this doesn’t just happen when you’re traveling abroad, but when you are these little hiccups seem so much worse.  Perhaps regardless of the advances in digital technology, until we can train blackberries not to go swimming, paper is still better.  Yep, I’m getting savvier and savvier all the time.
