Late on Friday, FOX announced Kara DioGuardi will not return as a judge for American Idol’s tenth season next January. DioGuardi was with the show for two seasons. DioGuardi said in a statement: “I felt like I won the lottery when I joined American Idol two years ago, but I feel like now is the best time to leave Idol. I look forward to my next challenge, and want to thank everyone who has supported me. All the best to everyone on Season 10!” No updates yet on the new judges panel for the upcoming season.
Mike Darnell, President/Alternative Entertainment at FOX said in the same statement: “Kara was a great addition to our Idol family. I’ve been fortunate to get to know her well, and have always been amazed by her eye for talent and her commitment to developing and mentoring artists. She will be missed, and we wish her continued success.”
ABC News President David Westin notified colleagues in an email late last night that after 13 years he will be stepping down at the end of the year. Westin offered as his reason that “there are some other things I want to do professionally — things I cannot explore while fulfilling my responsibilities here.” Anne Sweeney followed Westin’s email with her own to staffers which read in part, “For the past 13 years, David proved himself a tireless advocate for ABC News, effectively guiding the group through some of the most seismic industry, and divisional, changes imaginable. During that time, he helped reinvent our News organization, and positioned us for great success going forward.”
