Based on Nielsen’s Special Ordered Fast National Live + Same Day Ratings, ABC’s Sunday telecast of the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards drew an average audience of 13.2 million viewers and a 3.8 rating among A18-49. The awards were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and were up year to year by +6% in viewers compared to the 2011 telecast on FOX. Elsewhere, E!’s Live from the Red Carpet: The 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards hosted by Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic airing from 6-8p averaged more than 1.5 million total viewers. E!’s results bested last year’s performance by +5% and pulled in the best Total Viewers performance in six years.
Programming Note: Univision Network will honor Television Academy Hall of Famer, Mario Kreutzberger (aka Don Francisco) for his 50 years on television. Kreutzberger, host of the network’s Saturday program Sabado Gigante (Giant Saturday) will be celebrated on October 27 at 7p with a red carpet special followed by a three-hour event. Sabado Gigante holds the Guinness World Record for the World’s Longest Running Variety Program which was created by Kreutzberger.
The fifth edition of Food Network’s Iron Chef franchise, The Next Iron Chef: Redemption premieres November 4 at 9p. In this new version, professional chefs return for a second chance to become a member of the Iron Chef culinary society as they revisit some of the memorable moments that sent them home in past competitions. The series is hosted by Alton Brown and shot in Los Angeles and Las Vegas and concludes with the naming of the newest Iron Chef on December 23 at 9p. The Next Iron Chef is produced by Triage Entertainment in conjunction with Food Network.
Sportsman Channel rolls out a new fourth quarter Made in America lineup featuring 350 all-new episodes plus an added focus on white-tailed deer hunting programs with 40 exclusively dedicated episodes. Made in America premiere week launches next Monday and is presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods. The network is also adding a Sunday night whitetail programming block which joins its existing Tuesday and Wednesday primetime blocks. This Friday at 10p, MTV2 debuts new series numbNuts, a stunt competition game show series hosted by comedian Jeff Dye and from Fear Factor producer David A. Hurwitz. The launch of this new program follows the seventh season premiere of the Bellator Fighting Championships at 8p.

FOX Television Stations picked up talk show Bethenny for 2013. This news follows the six-week test last summer on select FOX-owned stations. The one-hour daily talk show, hosted by Bethenny Frankel and executive produced by Frankel and Ellen DeGeneres first debuted in June 2012 as a six-week test on FOX-owned stations in New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas, Phoenix and Minneapolis. Bethenny will launch on 17 FOX-owned stations including WNYW/New York, KTTV/Los Angeles, WFLD/Chicago, WTXF/Philadelphia, KDFW/Dallas, WFXT/Boston, WAGA/Atlanta, WTTG/Washington DC, KRIV/Houston, WJBK/Detroit, KSAZ/Phoenix, WTVT/Tampa, KMSP/Minneapolis, WOFL/Orlando, WHBQ/Memphis, KTBC/Austin and WOGX/Ocala. Bethenny will be produced by TelepicturesProductions and Ellen DeGeneres’ production company, A Very Good Production.
Bounce TV, America’s first-ever broadcast television network designed for African-American audiences is marking its one year anniversary date of September 26 by announcing several expansions: the network is in final stages with Nielsen to become rated by Nielsen in fourth quarter this year; Toyota and Nissan, both first year advertisers on the network have renewed sponsorships and the network additionally picked up General Motors and Chrysler as sponsors; Bounce TV made a film licensing agreement with Lionsgate involving a package of African-American targeted movies with titles such as Monster’s Ball, Boat Trip and more; a sports renewal deal with Urban Sports Entertainment Group; WXYZ-TV, the ABC affiliate in Detroit will launch Bounce TV this Wednesday; and the network will be launched on FOX-owned MyNetworkTV sub channels in Phoenix, Minneapolis and Orlando in October 2012. Bounce TV currently is seen in 80% of African-American homes and more than 60% of the US television households.

Veteran producer and director Garry Marshall (Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy) is looking to return to television by selling a comedy project to FOX. Marshall and his son, Scott Marshall will write and serve as EPs on Golden Guys which was granted a script order from FOX. 20th Television and Prospect Park are producing the comedy about a down-on-his-luck guy who must move back in with his family after he loses his fortunes in a scam.
John Hesse, who has served as Executive Producer on various PBS projects and been in management at television stations, has resurrected his own production company, John Hesse Productions to develop and produce documentary and entertainment programs. Currently, Hesse is launching a new documentary aimed at PBS about the career of former US Secretary of State James A. Baker, III. This documentary is expected to be completed by fall 2013.
Willie Geist will likely become the permanent co-host of the 9a hour of NBC’s Today with Natalie Morales. If this comes to fruition, Geist will give up his early morning MSNBC show Way Too Early though he is expected to stay on Morning Joe.
ABC Family cast Teri Polo and Sherri Saum to star in the drama series pilot The Fosters which is presently in preproduction. Polo will play Stef Foster while Saum will play Lena Foster.

Friday A18-49 Analysis: ABC and Univision shared the #1 spot Friday night at 1.5/5 A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, ABC’s Shark Tank bit the competition winning with a 1.6/5 though Univision’s Por Ella Soy Eva was a close second at 1.5/5. Tables turned during 9p as Univision’s Abismo de Pasion did best at 1.7/5 and ABC’s What Would You Do? followed with a 1.5/5. Fernando Gaston, presently SVP/Content and Creative for MTV, VH1 and Comedy Central Latin America will expand his position with Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) to become Brand Manager of the company’s US Hispanic network Tr3s: MTV, Musica y Mas. Effective immediately, Richard Pacheco was appointed as SVP/Enterprise Development with Univision Communications. Richard will be working on all new business development initiatives for the group. He is based in New York and reports to Rick Alessandri, EVP/Enterprise Development.
Full-service creative advertising agency bpg Advertising has tapped Creative Director Elaine Cantwell to lead its branding division.
Erin Cohen was added at DISH Media Sales as a Direct Response AE where she reports to Brian Norris, Director/Media Sales. Erin will be involved with the DR ad sales business in the Western region. She joined DISH from Hulu and is based in Los Angeles.
RLTV, targeting the 50+ audience, welcomes veteran programming executive John Ford as a Programming Consultant. John will work in tandem with RLTV President/CEO Paul FitzPatrick and SVP/Programming Elliot Jacobson. He will advise the network on programming, content development, production and scheduling strategy.
