After five years as Entertainment President at HBO, Sue Naegle is leaving to set up a production company that will get a first-look deal at the network. The agreement will not preclude her from shopping projects to other cable outlets. Insiders says Neagle won’t be replaced and that Programming President Michael Lombardo will assume many of her responsibilities.

A new Nielsen report details the importance of connecting with African-American consumers, who have a buying power of $1 trillion that is forecast to reach $1.3 trillion by 2017. Among the findings: no group watches more television, they lean heavily toward programming with diverse casts, and African-American women watch more television than African-American men.

This Old House: Jersey Shore Rebuilds, a series focusing on coastal reconstruction in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, premieres Thursday, October 3 on PBS. The program shows how three homeowners are forging ahead against the odds.

With its NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles still going strong, CBS is eyeing another spinoff, to be exec produced by EP Gary Glasberg and NCIS star Mark Harmon. A two-part, New Orleans-set episode, slated to air in spring 2014, would introduce the concept.

Investigation Discovery‘s Beauty Queen Murders “reveals the not-so-pretty side of the typical pageant queen fantasy,” said Henry Schleiff, Group President of Investigation Discovery, Destination America, and Military Channel. Show premieres Tuesday, October 1 at 10p.

The Military Channel has acquired seven new series from World Media Rights: Air Crash Confidential series one and two, Myth Hunters series one and two, Nazi Hunters, Rise of the Nazi Party, and Black Ops. Programming rights are for three years.

MTV‘s Girl Code is back for a second season starting Tuesday, October 29 at 11p. MTV2 has also picked up a fourth season of Guy Code, to debut in 2014.

Auction specialists Billy “The Dealer” Leroy, Mark “The Hustler” Meyer and Laurence & Sally Martin “The Wild Cards,return for season three of Travel Channel‘s Baggage Battles on Tuesday, October 15. Back-to-back episodes will air at 9p and 9:30p.

~ CASTING ~

Mike Colter (The Good Wife) is set to guest star on another CBS drama. He’ll play Colin, a man who puts his own life on the line to save a sniper’s target on the Wednesday, October 9 episode of Criminal Minds.

~ INTERNATIONAL HAPPENINGS ~

According to ITV, Downton Abbey debuted its fourth season in Britain on Sunday, to 9.5 million viewers for a huge 39.7 share. The show’s fourth season debuts Sunday, January 5 in the U.S. on PBS.

Meanwhile, ITV‘s early morning show Daybreak landed the first British interview with Amanda Knox prior to her retrial for the murder of British student Meredith Kercher. Knox spoke via satellite and of her fears, and willingness to take a lie detector test.

~ RATINGS ~

ABC’s debut of Shark Tank was up 4% over its year-ago premiere – 6.7 million vs. 6.4 million on September 14, 2012. The show delivered its most-watched-ever season opener.

A series high 3.0 million total viewers watched the season one finale of Lifetime‘s Devious Maids on Sunday. The drama reached series highs across all key demographics, including 1.4 million A18-49 (+69%), 1.3 million A25-54 (+50%), 1.2 million W18-49 (+90%) and 1.0 million W25-54 (+51%), according to Nielsen.

Friday A18-49 Analysis: ABC won the night among A18-49 viewers Friday with a 1.5/5, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, Univision’s Porque el Amor Manda was #1 at 1.5/6, followed by ABC’s Last Man Standing and The Neighbors, which combined for a 1.4/5. At 9p, ABC’s Shark Tank took over the lead at 1.8/6. NBC’s Dateline and Univision’s Tempestad tied for second at 1.1/4. ABC closed at the night in the top spot with 20/20 at 1.3/5, trailed by NBC’s Dateline at 1.2/4.

Zodiak Media has announced that David Frank will step down as group CEO in mid-October. Marc-Antoine d’Halluin, previously of Rubis Media Partners, will succeed him, effective October 15.

Jonathan Blum has been named President of Cisneros Media. He was previously Vice President and General Manager of Venevision.

Scot Safon has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of The Weather Channel. Saffon last served as Executive Vice President for CNN, managing the HLN network.

TV One has named Donna Wilson as Executive Producer of weekday morning news program News One Now. Wilson previously worked on nonfiction projects, including TV One’s Deceived and Find Our Missing, Biography Channel‘s John Gotti and Crucibles of Courage, Paramount‘s Dr. Phil.

WNET, parent company of New York’s public television stations THIRTEEN and WLIW21 and operator of NJTV, has appointed Antonia Carew-Watts as Associate Counsel. She was previously an associate at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, focusing on intellectual property and entertainment law.

Ryan St. Peters has been promoted to Vice President, Sales and Business Development of Shaftesbury, one of Canada’s leading producers and distributors of original content for television and multiple platforms.
