In addition to its traditional In Memoriam segment, this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards telecast will include tributes to James Gandolfini, Gary David Goldberg, Cory Monteith and Jonathan Winters from friends and co-workers. The remembrances will “be very meaningful for television audiences across the country and across generations,” said EP Ken Ehrlich. Show airs Sunday, September 22 at 8p on CBS.

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

The winners have been announced for the 2013 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Honors were spread over thirty nets, with HBO getting the biggest haul at 20 (eight for Behind the Candelabra), followed by CBS with 15 and NBC with 8. FXX will air the presentation on Saturday, September 21 at 9p, the day before the live Primetime Emmys show on CBS.

Fox News Channel is pushing forward with a social tool it’s been experimenting with since summer on Special Report with Bret Baier. Bing Pulse, a poll that can identify participants by political affiliation and gender, lets viewers weigh in on what panelists say as the show airs. This week Special Report, which has seen a ratings bump of 21 percent in A25-54 since Bing started, will start using the poll three times a week.

The cast of AMC‘s Breaking Bad will have a sit-down on TBS‘s Conan, their first-ever appearance on a talk show, on Monday, September 23 at 11p. That’s the day after the Emmys (Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul and Anna Gunn are up for acting awards) and ahead of the highly-anticipated series finale on Sunday, September 29 at 9p.

King’s Faith, a movie starring Lynn Whitfield (Eve’s Bayou) about foster parents who take in a former gang member, is the kind of uplifting fare UP‘s viewers love, Leslie Glenn Chesloff, EVP programming for the net, tells Cynopsis. “We receive hundreds of comments a month from devoted viewers who say they love to watch stories of redemption,” says Chesloff.  The Faith Street Film Partners production airs Saturday, September 21 at 7p, and Sunday, September 22 at 9:30p.

Gabrielle Carteris (Beverly Hills, 90210) is lobbying for the SAG-AFTRA EVP slot at the union’s convention later this month. Carteris, who has been in the SAG and AFTRA unions for 26 years, was first elected to office in 2005.

The Gap‘s first TV ad campaign in four years launched last night. Featuring second generation singers Dhani Harrison (son of George) and Alexa Ray Joel (daughter of Billy), the “Back to blue” ads will appear during event programming like series premieres, athletic events and awards shows. The brand is also buying promoted tweets to extend its reach.

Discovery Channel airs the salvaging of Costa Concordia, the cruise ship that ran aground off the coast of Italy in January 2012, in a one-hour special from Darlow Smithson Productions that airs Friday, September 20 at 10p; the salvage operation is underway now.

True air travel disasters get the TV treatment in a new Smithsonian series, Terror in the Skies. Premiere ep, featuring a pilot wrestled to the ground by passengers and Chesley Sullenberger’s Hudson River landing, airs Sunday, September 29 at 8p.

Nickelodeon is hosting fitness-themed events in NYC all week – like kayaking at the Brooklyn Bridge boathouse – leading up to its annual Worldwide Day of Play on Saturday, September 21. Once again, the net will suspend programming on all its TV channels from 12p-3p in a bid to get kids to get off the couch.

Velocity announced the launch of a weekend afternoon programming block from European sports net Eurosport. Four motorsports series will be introduced to U.S. audiences, starting Saturday, September 28.

Pivot has entered into a sponsorship agreement with job finder Monster to help all those Millennials it targets earn a paycheck. The net will air Monster.com “Find Better” offering its viewers tools to improve their lives and careers, in a campaign that integrates content on-air, online and across social media, including a Pivot doc about real-life job seekers.

~ RETURNING SERIES ~

NBC‘s Saturday Night Live added six featured players, and sophomore cast member Cecily Strong has been anointed co-host of Weekend Update with Seth Meyers. She may get the spot to herself soon – Meyers is departing the sketch show in February to host the net’s new late-night talker, Late Night with Seth Meyers. Season 39 (!) of SNL bows September 28 at 11:30p, with Tina Fey hosting.

Dancing with the Stars waltzed into its 17th season Monday night with a new social media tool. A partnership with Facebook allows DWTS to reveal viewers’ real-time conversations from the social net, so the audience can see who’s generating buzz (or not), as well as demographic data on who’s doing the talking, a TV first. ABC competition airs Mondays at 8p.

A flirtatious lap dancer with a stiletto stuck in her cheek is one of the true tales featured the season eight premiere of Discovery Fit & Health‘s Untold Stories of the ER. The fun begins Sunday, October 6 at 9p.

CW will air the 19th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards for a second year, as well as the Critics’ Choice Television Awards. TV Land‘s Hot in Cleveland has started production for season five, which will deal with Melanie’s (Valerie Bertinelli) surprise pregnancy, and include a crossover with TV Land freshman Kirstie. Kirstie debuts in December 2013; Hot comes back in spring, 2014.
