In a surprise switch, Esquire Network will launch on Style Network, not G4. Removing Style from the mix allows NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment Chief Bonnie Hammer to streamline the company’s female-skewing nets, lessening brand confusion with E!, Bravo and Oxygen, and offering men’s-lifestyle-focused Esquire a larger cable platform. Esquire debuts Monday, September 23.
Saturday Night Live will kick off season 39 with Tina Fey in the spotlight. The September 28 appearance will be the SNL alum’s fourth time as host. Miley Cyrus, who hosted SNL in 2011, will do double duty and serve as musical guest as well on October 5; her album drops three days later. Bruce Willis is on tap for his second shot at the gig on October 12.

The Monday, October 7, premiere of new Disney XD sitcom Mighty Med won’t be the first opportunity for kids to sample the series. The net is premiering a tie-in game, Heroic Healers, on Sunday, September 15, and offering a free download of the first Med ep on iTunes Monday, September 23, followed by VOD access on Monday, September 30.
The Voice coaches will get assists from Cher, Ed Sheeran, OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder and Miguel (All I Want Is You) for season five. The NBC singing competition premieres Monday, September 23, at 8p.
Peacock Productions is hopping the pond to establish a U.K. division. The unit of NBC News, which develops nonfiction programming, tapped veteran BBC producer Steve Anderson as U.K. managing director. “This is a great moment for Peacock Productions to build on our domestic success and make a significant move into the global marketplace,” said president/GM of Peacock Sharon Scott.
CBS has slotted The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show for Tuesday, December 10, at 10p – as usual, just in time for holiday shopping.
Yahoo released a mobile video app that offers the same comedy programming as its website, including clips from 38 seasons of Saturday Night Live. It also announced a pact with Comedy Central for clips from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report, strengthening its position as a comedy destination for millennials.
Saturday Night Live‘s Kenan Thompson will host Hub‘s First Annual Halloween Bash. The two-hour live-to-tape special, from Bob Bain Productions, airs Saturday, October 26, at 8p.
TLC’s Long Island Medium, adhering the adage, “Give ’em what they want,” kicks off with a Twitter event that offers viewers a chance to jump the years-long waiting list and meet with Theresa Caputo. Names of people who tweet the hashtag #LongIslandMedium will be chosen at random; winners receive a trip for two to receive a private reading. Tweet to Win – Live airs Sunday, October 6, at 8p, followed by the season five premiere of Magilla Entertainment‘s Medium at 9p.
After a solid summer performance, WE tv is bringing back L.A. Hair for season three. The docu-series about a high-end hair salon grew 66 percent in W25-54 and 57 percent in total viewers vs. season one.

Britain’s Got Talent crossed the line by allowing a contestant on the ITV2 reality show to perform a striptease to Jungle Book’s “The Bare Necessities,” ruled U.K. regulator Ofcom. ITV argued that the performer’s body was pixilated, but the regulator responded that “the performer’s naked buttocks” were not “sufficiently obscured.” The performance aired before the 9p hour when more risque content is allowed.
Zodiak France has partnered with newly created production company Blush Film to develop drama projects, aiming to strengthen its position in the fiction genre.

As Extra launches its 20th season this week, the entertainment news magazine is debuting a new, twice weekly segment: The Gossip Girl On Extra. The segment will “deliver all the inside news and latest gossip,” said Senior EP Lisa Gregorisch-Dempsey. Extra is produced by Telepictures Productions and distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution; canceled drama series Gossip Girl came from Alloy Entertainment, a division of the Warner Bros. Television Group.
Wheel of Fortune places its bet on Vegas for its 31st season bow – the game show taped 30 eps at Sin City’s The Venetian and The Palazzo. There’s been some tweaking on the wheel (goodbye, third round Jackpot Wedge; hello Express Wedge), but partnerships with brand like Sandals Resorts, Sears, Disney and Caesars Entertainment return.
