This Thursday, TLC debuts a new series Little Shop of Gypsies at 10p from Firecracker Films that goes behind the scenes of the dressmaking business featured on the network’s series My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.  The new series follows British dressmaker Thelma Madine as she hires young traveler women and helps them learn the dressmaking trade.

A second season of StandUp in Stilettos clicks its way back on TV Guide Network’s schedule starting November 10 at 11p.  The original comedy series is hosted by Kate Flannery (The Office) and each of the 12 half-hour episodes will feature three stand-up comediennes.  Slated to appear in the new season are Thea Vidale, Cory Kahaney, Cathy Ladman, Luenell and Laurie Kilmartin.  StandUp in Stilettos is produced by TV Guide Network.

Syfy renewed its competition series Face Off for a fourth season.  When the fourth season premieres in 2013, guests slated to appear include Bryan Singer and Lightstorm’s Jon Landau.  Face Off is currently in the midst of its third season airing on Tuesdays at 9p followed by Hot Set at 10p.  Both Face Off and Hot Set are productions of Mission Control Media with Dwight D. Smith and Michael Agbabian as executive producers.  Derek Atherton is also an EP on Face Off and Aliyah Silverstein is an EP on Hot Set.

Tricon Films & Television and PPI Releasing are offering the one-hour drama Sanctuary for weekly barter syndication in 2013-14.  Amanda Tapping stars in Sanctuary which began as an online-only series then launched on Syfy.  The series will aim at weekend time periods in syndication.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

NBC approved a new adventure reality-competition series Get Out Alive (wt) helmed by adventurer Bear Grylls.  The show will follow two teams as they take on extreme challenges.  This series also marks the first time Grylls will star in a network television program.  Grylls previously starred in the international TV series Man vs. Wild which ran on Discovery Channel in the US.  NBC ordered eight episodes of Get Out Alive (wt) and more details about the show will be revealed at a later date.  NBC will air the program in primetime debuting in summer 2013.  Get Out Alive is co-produced by Bear Grylls Ventures and Ben Silverman’s Electus.

NBC is additionally moving forward on an untitled medical drama from 90201 writers and EPS and Life As We Know It creators Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah.  NBC gave the project a pilot order and it was previously referred to as After Hours and The Last Stand.  The project is an ensemble medical program about Army doctors working the late shift at a San Antonio hospital.  Sony Pictures Television is producing with Sachs/Judah Productions.

Charles Dickens’ classic novel Great Expectations is being adapted into a TV series for The CW.  The project is described as a modern-day reimagining of the literary classic which was first published in serial form in the late 1860s.  Reese Witherspoon is involved as EP through her Pacific Standard shingle along with Mills Goodloe who will also write the one-hour drama.  Pacific Standard’s Bruna Papandrea, Television 360’s Meghan Lyvers and Evelyn O’Neill will also serve as EPs; CBS Television Studios is producing.

Comedy Central handed a pilot order to Broad City, based on a web series created by Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer.  The project, originally developed at FX, began as a sketch idea at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York and was tagged by UBC alum Amy Poehler who recommended it to Comedy Central Head/Original Programming and Production Kent Alterman.  Jacobson and Glazer will serve as EPs along with Poehler, Dave Becky and Sam Saifer.  Tony Hernandez is co-EP and Brooke Posch is executive in charge of production for Comedy Central.

Goodfellas actor Mike Starr was cast in FOX’s The Mob Doctor in the recurring role as Sal, aka the Westside Boss, a wise-guy who uses his bawdy sense of humor to put people down.  The Mob Doctor airs on Mondays at 9p.

Veteran actress Judith Light is joining TNT’s Dallas for its second season when the series returns in late January.  Light will play an authoritative and controlling woman who will fight to the death for the people she loves.  Light’s character will recur throughout the second season set to premiere January 28.

FX is beefing up its cast for The Bridge.  The adaptation based on the Scandinavian series I Bron from Homeland’s Meredith Stiehm and Hawaii Five-O’s Elwood Reid cast Demian Bichir (Weeds) to play Mexican detective Marco Ruiz who must work with El Paso homicide detective Sonya North (Diane Kruger) a cop who lacks warmth and empathy, the opposite traits of Detective Ruiz.  Also cast for The Bridge is Annabeth Gish (Once Upon a Time) as Charlotte Millwright, a wealthy rancher’s wife and Ted Levine (Monk) as Lt. Hank Wade, Sonya’s lieutenant at the El Paso Police Department, a veteran cop sporting a cowboy swagger.

Casting Call: Grand Prix Productions is casting for a television show and looking for online daters who would like to date safely by running checks, in advance of their potential dates.  For more information please visit: www.LuvFax.com.

At MIPCOM, Peace Point Rights made a deal with Octopus TV Ltd. involving Octopus Media Technology.  By using Octopus TV’s cloud based video content management product, Peace Point Rights will have a streamlined and cost-effective delivery platform for storing, screening management and digital delivery of programming.

Armoza Formats picked up the international distribution rights to a new reality format starring British style experts, Trinny and Susannah.  The makeover series is titled Trinny and Susannah: Inside Out and is based on an Israeli program produced by Abot Hameiri Productions for Channel 10.

Content Television, a unit of Content Media Corporation and the independent Back2Back Productions announced a funding and production partnership agreement on the funding, production and international distribution of projects over the next two years.  The first series approved under the new deal is the six-episode docu-series The Royals which will be distributed worldwide across all platforms by Content Television.

New multi-platform video distribution venture, HBO Nordic serving Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark forged a premium content licensing deal with Starz Media Worldwide Distribution, a division of Starz Media, LLC.  The comprehensive multi-year deal gives HBO Nordic premium programming exclusively for pay TV and SVOD.  The deal includes the STARZ Original series Spartacus for HBO Nordic’s SVOD services; the STARZ Original series Magic City licensed exclusively for pay TV and SVOD as well as other originals, TV movies and TV series.
