Lots of news from The CW: the network ordered a full season of its rookie drama Arrow. On October 3, Arrow debuted on The CW with 4.1 million total viewers, making it the network’s most-watched telecast in three years and the most-watched series premiere since The Vampire Diaries in 2009. Arrow is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
The CW further gave three scripts each to its new drama series Emily Owens M.D. and Beauty and the Beast.
The Critics’ Choice Movie Awards will now air on The CW with a live telecast on January 10 from Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. The show will preempt the network’s regular programming. Critics’ Choice Movie Awards had previously aired on VH1.
Mike Darnell, President/Alternative Entertainment of Fox Broadcasting Company revealed yesterday The X Factor was renewed by FOX for a third season. The X Factor was created by Syco Television and is produced by Syco Television and FremantleMedia North America.
FOX also gave two of its Tuesday night comedies more episodes as Raising Hope gained two eps for season three, taking its total to 24 and New Girl’s second season episode count was upped to 24 total.
ABC added two more episodes to its business-themed reality competition series Shark Tank for the 2012-13 season. The order total for Shark Tank is now at 24 episodes for its fourth season produced by Sony Pictures Television. Currently airing Fridays at 8p, Shark Tank will air at its new 9p Friday slot starting November 2, making room for ABC’s new comedy block of Last Man Standing and Malibu Country.
Soon after its second season premiere and winning multiple Emmy Awards, SHOWTIME renewed Homeland for a third season consisting of 12 one-hour episodes. When Homeland premiered its second season on September 30, the series delivered a +60% increase over its first season premiere with 2.07 million viewers for the night. Production on season three will commence next spring and the series, starring Claire Danes and Damian Lewis is produced by FOX 21.
A new real-life series, Be the Boss debuts on A&E Network December 2 at 10p. The original competition-style series pits two employees of a franchise-based company against each other with one earning the chance to become the owner of their own franchise and to be the boss. Studio Lambert produces the series and companies featured in the first season include Complete Nutrition, Auntie Anne’s, Signal 88 Security, Molly Maid, Jazzercise and The Melting Pot.
Discovery Channel welcomes back Jesse James in a new series, Jesse James – Outlaw Garage opening November 5 at 10p. This new series follows James who is a partner at the Austin Speed Shop in Texas as he strives to turn the business into a top-level custom shop. Jesse James – Outlaw Garage is produced for Discovery Channel by Pilgrim Studios.
WE tv is adding a new original series Obsessed with the Dress to its 2013 line up going inside a popular dress shop in Omaha where owner and former beauty queen Michele Strom dresses pageant hopefuls for their chance at a crown. WE tv ordered six one-hour episodes produced by Pie Town Productions. WE tv additionally gave second season orders to Kendra on Top with 12 half-hour episodes and two one-hour eps as well as L.A. Hair with 10 one-hour episodes. Kendra on Top is from Prometheus Entertainment for WE tv and L.A. Hair is produced by Eyeworks USA for WE tv.
Early in the new year, ABC Family brings back four original series to its schedule. Season two of drama series Switched at Birth opens January 7 at 8p followed by all-new episodes of Bunheads at 9p. On the next night, all-new episodes of Pretty Little Liars returns on January 8 at 8p preceding new episodes of The Lying Game at 9p.
Hallmark Channel is teaming with Time Warner Cable nationally to provide custom local video on demand content associated with the American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards. The program that launched in 2011, honors dogs and the many ways they save, support, protect and enrich human’s lives. The program began yesterday and the Hero Dog Awards will be available on Time Warner Cable’s local VOD platform where viewers can catch a sneak peek of the eight finalists for 2012 as well as the full length presentation of the 2011 Hero Dog Awards hosted by Carson Kressley. The 2012 Hero Dog Awards will debut on November 8 at 8p on Hallmark Channel, hosted by Kristin Chenoweth.

CBS chooses to work again with The Big Bang Theory’s Dave Goetsch as the writer/co-EP sold a family comedy, Smells Like Teen Spirit (wt) to the network, reports THR. The multicamera comedy is about an 18-year old aspiring entrepreneur who decides against Harvard to launch, instead, a multi-billion-dollar online company from his garage with the assistance from his sister, best friend and his funky parents. Goetsch will write and serve as EP on the project which is produced by Warner Bros. Television. CBS has given the project a put-pilot order.

Entertainment One (eOne), Amaze Film + Television and Big Motion Pictures along with Astral’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada) announced production has started on ten new episodes of the dark comedy Call Me Fitz starring Jason Priestley. Michael Gross (Family Ties) also joins the cast playing Pat Childs, an eco-industrialist bent on destroying the used-car industry and the entire Fitzpatrick family. The fourth season is being shot in studio and on location in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Presently, the third season of Call Me Fitz is airing on HBO Canada Sundays at 830p and on DIRECTV’s Audience Network in the US on Tuesdays at 8p.

Friday A18-49 Analysis: FOX slid into home base Friday winning with the A18-49 demo at 2.0/7, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. ABC’s Shark Tank bit back at the competition during 8p with a 2.0/7 and FOX’s MLB NLCS Game 5 was next at 1.6/6. FOX came back to become #1 at 9p with more of its San Francisco vs. St. Louis MLB game at 2.0/7 and Univision’s Abismo de Pasion placed second at 1.7/5. Also this hour, The CW debuted a new season of Nikita at 0.3/1. FOX held onto the top slot through 10p as the MLB NLCS Game 5 delivered a 2.4/8 with ABC’s 20/20 following at 1.4/5 and Univision’s Amor Bravio a close third at 1.4/4.

Effective November 1, Radio One expanded CEO/President Alfred Liggins’ role to now oversee all operations of network TV One. Current President/CEO Wonya Lucas will step down from her role at the end of October to pursue other endeavors.
Dr. Jennifer Ashton joins the ABC News Medical Unit as Senior Medical Contributor. Jennifer will help report on major health and wellness issues. She is a board-certified Ob-Gyn, an author and women’s health expert who received her medical degree from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons.
CBS News and CBS Sports reporter Armen Keteyian will become a full-time Correspondent for the new SHOWTIME Sports magazine, 60 Minutes Sports. Armen will additionally continue to contribute some to CBS News’ daily broadcasts.
Creative agency Loyalkaspar, led by David Herbruck and Beat Baudenbacher has opened a Los Angeles office. Additionally, the agency hired Richard Eng as the new office’s Creative Director and Mandy Novak as Executive Producer.
