RLTV, the only cable network and online destination for adults 50+ launches a new brand identity November 1.  The rebrand effort includes a new logo, graphics package and color scheme for on-air, online and print.  RLTV will also bow a new music signature and branded voiceover talent for the network.  The network’s new tagline: Experience Matters also encompasses a core group of “R” words and imagery that represents the network’s mission and target audience aspirations and experiences.  For this rebrand campaign, RLTV teamed with Agency Five0, a New York City-based agency that specializes in the 50+ demographic.

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Sunday’s season three premiere of The Walking Dead on AMC at 9p delivered 10.9 million total viewers, making it the highest-rated episode in the series’ history and delivering +50% more viewers over last season’s premiere.  The season three premiere of The Walking Dead has become the largest telecast for any drama series in basic cable history among all viewers.  The 9p premiere also attracted 7.3 million A18-49 viewers and 6.1 million among A25-54.  The Walking Dead’s encore at 10p attracted another 3.5 million total viewers and the airing at midnight drew in 850,000 viewers for a total of 15.2 million viewers for the night.  Furthermore, the season two debut of Talking Dead at 11p delivered 2.1 million viewers, an increase of +85% over the season one premiere.

Just prior to Halloween, BIO Channel premieres the new original series, The Haunting Of hosted by psychic-medium Kim Russo as she presents an exclusive look at celebrities who have had their lives changed by paranormal events.  Each one-hour episode recounts a celebrity’s real life experience with the paranormal as they return to the site of their scare.  Celebrities featured include Eric Mabius, Regis Philbin, Connie Stevens, Chazz Palminteri and Gina Gershon among others.  The Haunting Of premieres October 27 at 10p and is produced by Jarrett Creative for BIO.

Second seasons of HBO’s comedies Girls and Enlightened are set to premiere January 13.  The comedies will air with back-to-back episodes starting at 9p and both series will have 10 episodes.

Sundance Channel landed an exclusive product integration sponsorship with Lexus for its fashion series All on the Line with Joe Zee.  The deal includes in-show vehicle integrations, several NY Fashion Week production shoots inspired by Lexus as well as on-air and digital promotion.  The campaign will wrap with TechStyle, a custom short-form series featuring interviews with Joe Zee and top designers from around the worlds.  All on the Line with Joe Zee airs Mondays at 9p on Sundance Channel.

At the CTAM Summit in Orlando this past weekend, USA Network/NBCUniversal and Cinemax were honored for their marketing excellence through the Mark Awards.  USA Network/NBCUniversal received the Top of the Mark Award for their Characters Unite Month multimedia campaign that focused on the issues of prejudice and discrimination that promoted tolerance and respect.  The campaign garnered a +74% increase in Facebook fans and changed the lives of participating students.   Cinemax received CTAM’s Most Innovative award for the Strike Back SuperWall which increased consumer and industry awareness for the network’s first original series, Strike Back.

Next Monday, MTV debuts a new hidden camera game show, Totally Clueless at 7p followed by a special week of all-new daily episodes of Money From Strangers at 730p airing Monday-Friday.   MTV will additionally air a 24-hour prank marathon this Saturday starting at 2p.  Hosted by comedian Jeff Dye of Money From Strangers, the marathon will include back-to-back episodes of Rob Dyrdek’s Ridiculousness, Money From Strangers and Pranked.  Totally Clueless is produced by One Louder Productions; Mondy From Strangers is from Lion TV; Ridiculousness is produced by Dickhouse; and Pranked is from Cheri Sundae Productions.

Saturday nights on CMT brings back a second season of Redneck Island starting November 10 at 9p followed by the premieres of two new series Chainsaw Gang at 10p and Big Texas Heat at 1030p.  Redneck Island watches as fourteen people gather on pro wrestling hall of famer Steve Austin’s tropical island for a chance to win $100,000.  Chainsaw Gang features chainsaw artist Stacy Poitras who leads a group of chainsaw artists that battle it out to create works of art.  New series Big Texas Heat follows the on and off-duty activities of the police department in the small town of Trinity, TX.

Programming Notes: Following Felix Baumgartner’s world record free fall jump from higher than 120,000 feet on Sunday, the National Geographic Channel will air a special program Space Dive in November.  The National Geographic Channel and BBC chronicled each second of Baumgartner’s jump with more than 20 cameras as well as exclusive behind-the-scenes access following him over his four years of training to become an altitude specialist.  For more information about this space dive and the upcoming NGC special go to: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2012/10/121014-felix-baumgartner-skydive-sound-barrier-kittinger-roswell-science-2/.

On October 22, BBC America rolls out the first part of a two-part special, Top Gear Top Fails directly before the season two premiere of Richard Hammond’s Crash Course at 9p and 10p respectively.  The second part of BBC America’s Top Gear Top Fails special, which includes some of the most memorable challenges from the Top Gear series, will air on October 29 at 9p.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CARRIAGE & CLEARANCE ~

Telemundo Media has licensed the rights to broadcast feature films from Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. to its Spanish-language audiences for the first time.  The film titles include Monsters vs. Aliens and J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek in 2012; Transformers: Dark of the Moon in 2013; and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Puss in Boots in 2014. 

Multiplatform media company Veria Living made a broad-reaching distribution deal with RCN Telecom Services, LLC to have its network carried on the broadband services provider’s systems in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC and Lehigh Valley, PA.  Veria Living will be part of RCN’s Premier Tier. 

As of this month, INSP secured more distribution with network launches in Comcast’s Heartland Region which serves Greater Indiana and Michigan.  INSP is available in more than 73 million households nationwide via cable and DBS.  

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

ABC Family tapped Ryan Sypek (Wildfire) and Kate Lang Johnson (Persons Unknown) for the lead roles in its comedy pilot Phys Ed.  The half-hour multi-camera comedy is about a high school jock, Ed (Sypek) who returns to teach at his former alma mater to find that though he has changed, nothing at the school has changed.  Johnson will play Janie, a teacher at the school who was ignored by Ed in high school and is now the object of his interest.  David H. Steinberg pens the script and serves as producer.  Prodco, Inc. is producing.

Rachel Zoe, star of the Bravo unscripted series The Rachel Zoe Project is involved as executive producer of a half-hour, single-camera scripted comedy based on her life for NBC, reports THR.  Zoe’s husband Rodger Berman is also attached as an EP.  Aseem Batra (Animal Practice, Scrubs) will write the pilot script with Todd Holland (30 Rock, Go On) on board to direct.  Batra will also be an EP with Zoe and Berman in addition to BermanBraun’s Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun and Dark Toy’s Holland and Karey Burke.  Universal TV is producing.

Friday A18-49 Analysis:  ABC led a narrow win Friday among the A18-49 viewers at 1.5/5, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  ABC’s Shark Tank bit back the competition at 8p with a 1.8/6 followed by Univision’s two-hour Por Ella Soy Eva at 1.5/5.  Then at 9p, NBC’s Grimm and Univision’s Por Ella Soy Eva tied for #1 at 1.6/5 apiece while ABC’s What Would You Do? and CBS’ CSI: NY shared third place at 1.4/4 each.  CBS had the final win of the night as Blue Bloods closed out with a 1.4/5 and ABC’s 20/20 was a close #2 at 1.4/4 and NBC’s Dateline and Univision’s Amor Bravio were a step behind at 1.3/4 each.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Becky Henderson was elevated to EVP/Marketing of The Inspiration Networks where she will spearhead consumer, affiliate and digital marketing strategies for INSP, Halogen TV and La Familia Cosmovision.  Becky, who is the founder of Halogen TV, will continue as GM for that network. 

As of November 1, Alison Moore joins DailyCandy as EVP/GM.  Alison comes from Home Box Office where she served as SVP/Digital Products.  In her new post, Alison will report to Nick Lehman, President/Digital for NBCUniversal’s Entertainment & Digital Networks and Integrated Media group, of which DailyCandy is a part.

Effective immediately, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment upped Vincent Marcais to EVP/Worldwide Brand Marketing and James Finn advances to the newly-minted role of SVP/Worldwide Communications, Media and Partnerships.  These marketing moves represent a realignment of the division’s marketing management under President/CMO of Worldwide Marketing Mary Daily.  Both Vincent and James report to Mary Daily. 

REELZCHANNEL hired two senior level programming executives, Paul Cockerill as SVP/Program Production and Development and Bill Graff as SVP/Program Scheduling and Acquisitions.  Previously, Paul was Owner/Executive Producer at Flying Dog International, Inc. where he produced pilots for OWN and TV Land in addition to producing regular series for ABC and IFC.  Bill most recently was the Acting VP/Programming for BBC Worldwide Channels where he managed programming for BBC Entertainment, BBC HD and CBeebies in Latin America.  Both Paul and Bill are based at REELZCHANNEL’s corporate headquarters in Albuquerque. 

Former VP/Marketing at the TV Guide Network, Todd McNulty was tagged by Crown Media Family Networks, home of Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel to become SVP/Creative Services.  Todd will oversee all facets of the creative services department engaged in the development and production of on-air promotions, videos as well as print and web design.  Based in Los Angeles, Todd reports to Susanne McAvoy, EVP/Marketing and Creative Services.

Island Records, a division of Island Def Jam Music Group (IDJ) named Grammy Award-winning producer, composer and musician Dallas Austin as SVP/A&R, Island Records.  Dallas will manage current and new artist projects in addition to indentifying new talent for the label.  He will report to Barry Weiss, Chairman/CEO, Universal Republic and Island Def Jam Motown.

Young Hollywood, LLC added Liz Coughlin as SVP/Business Operations to head new business efforts for the company and oversee all digital operations.  Liz joins from Yahoo! Entertainment where she was Head of Yahoo! TV and omg!.

Viacom International Media Networks – The Americas (VIMN) promoted Marisol Amaya to Senior Director/Programming up from Director/Programming Acquisitions for MTV, VH1 and Comedy Central Latin America.  Marisol’s role expands now to include Tr3s in the US Hispanic market.  Based in Miami, Marisol jointly reports to Fernando Gaston, Brand Manager for Tr3s and MTV Latin America and Federico Cuervo, Brand Manager of Comedy Central and VH1 Latin America.
