Cynopsis: Sports
10/11/11

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, October 11, 2011, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

After seven hours of meetings and some progress, NBA players and owners finished the evening without an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement. Multiple reports state that NBA Commissioner David Stern announced that the first two weeks of regular season games, which were slated to run from Nov. 1 through Nov. 14, were now cancelled s a result of the failure. The NBA’s website reported that the two sides had at least made some headway, including a modified mid-level exception, which can help a team go above the salary cap to add new players.
