~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

On the cusp of their November 1 deadline, Fox Networks and DIRECTV forged a new agreement and no programming or networks will be blacked out on the satellite provider.  Both Fox Networks and DIRECTV released a joint statement late yesterday:

“Fox Networks and DIRECTV have reached an agreement for DIRECTV to continue carrying all Fox Networks (including FX, National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo WILD, SPEED, FUEL TV, FOX Soccer, FOX Soccer Plus and FOX Deportes), Fox’s regional sports networks, Fox Broadcasting (FOX), the FOX local stations, Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network. We both know the past ten days have been challenging, but we’re pleased that both sides could eventually come together to ensure our viewers continue to enjoy Fox programming.”

Animated comedy Bob’s Burgers received nine additional episodes from FOX.  The series will premiere in midseason and is part of FOX’s Animation Domination on Sunday nights.  The show stars the voice of H. Jon Benjamin as Bob and guest stars in the next season include Kevin Kline, Sarah and Laura Silverman and Megan Mullally. Bob’s Burgers is from 20th Century Fox Television.

After the World Series Game 7 on FOX clobbered the competition last Friday night, NBC decided to re-air the premiere episodes of Chuck and new series Grimm to give viewers another chance to check out both shows.  Chuck and Grimm’s premiere episodes will air this Saturday night.

Handing out a treat for Halloween, FX announced yesterday a renewal order for a second season of American Horror Story with 13 episodes from Twentieth Century Fox Television.  Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, American Horror Story has nine remaining new episodes left to air during season one on Wednesdays at 10p. The season concludes with two episodes on December 21.

Look for a newly-revamped morning lineup soon on CNN.  The cable news network will feature morning anchor Soledad O’Brien as anchor from 7a to 9a on weekdays while former ABC News correspondent, Ashleigh Banfield will co-anchor from 5a to 7a.  Banfield’s co-anchor has not been named.  There is no word on what the four-hour weekday morning block will be called.  CNN is expected to make an official announcement on these changes this week.

Film, TV and music star Queen Latifah may get her own talk show in fall 2013.  A new daytime syndicated talk show is being developed with Queen Latifah as host from Overbrook Entertainment and Flavor Unit Entertainment in partnership with Sony Pictures Television.  Queen Latifah would further serve as executive producer along with her co-founder of Flavor Unit Entertainment, Shakim Compere and Overbrook’s Miguel Melendez, James Lassiter, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Tonight at 7p, MTV launches FriendZone, a series offering a new twist on the dating show genre by exploring the question should best friends take their relationship to a new level?  The show follows real-life young people who are willing to take the risk of sharing their true feelings. FriendZone is produced by 495 Productions.

HISTORY will head to the bayou of Alabama in a new eight-episode series Big Shrimpin’ debuting November 17 at 10p.  The series follows a group of veteran employees of Dominick Ficarino, owner of a successful shrimp boat business in Bayou La Batre. When nearly all of the shrimp in America comes from outside the US, Dominick and his crew are fighting to keep the industry viable.  Big Shrimpin’ is produced by Pilgrim Studios for HISTORY.

When ABC Daytime’s new daily show The Revolution launches in January, two top health experts will be part of the hosting team.  Dr. Jennifer Ashton, a leading OB-GYN and Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Ph.D, psychotherapist and relationship expert will join the other previously announced co-hosts including Ty Pennington, Tim Gunn and celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak.  Furthermore, Michelle Singletary, author of a personal finance column for the Washington Post will also contribute a weekly financial segment.

Clarification: The A.V. Club will premiere One Track Mind, a new music video series that shows the site visiting musicians to discuss the creative process and influence behind one of their popular songs. For ten weeks, which began October 27, a new five-minute video will post on the site every Thursday and will combine interviews with performance footage. After each video’s online premiere, IFC will also air it as part of its “Featured Feature” primetime content block on Saturdays at 8p starting November 8.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

Early yesterday, Disney-ABC Television Group said it is extending its licensing pact with Netflix’s streaming video service and also made a new deal with Amazon.com.  Under the agreement with Amazon, the company will enlarge its Prime instant videos library with more than 800 titles from Disney-ABC including programming from ABC Family, ABC Studios, The Disney Channel and Marvel.  Content will include ABC Family’s Greek and The Secret Life of the American Teenager, ABC’s Lost, Grey’s Anatomy and Felicity, Disney Channel’s Phineas & Ferb and Marvel’s Spider Man and X-Men Evolution.  Financial terms of the deal between Amazon and Disney-ABC was not revealed.

A new television broadcast service, Soul of the South is aiming at African Americans in the southern US states.  The new entity is allegedly spending at least $10 million by early next year to launch the service in 50 markets with a mix of entertainment, sports, news and cultural programming.  At launch time, Soul of the South plans on being available in Atlanta, Memphis, Monroe, LA, Orlando and Augusta, GA among others.  Soul of the South also has a goal to have affiliates in northern cities with large African American populations such as Chicago, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Detroit.

Ovation forged a multi-year distribution deal with the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC).  The deal allows NCTC members to carry both the standard and hi-def feeds of Ovation through 2016 in addition to Ovation VOD in standard-def and hi-def and once it is available the network’s TV Everywhere content.  The NCTC is a not-for-profit cooperative that represents cable system providers with close to 1000 member companies.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

CBS purchased a pitch based on the long-running Israeli comedy, Life Isn’t Everything.  The multi-camera comedy project is about a middle-aged, newly divorced couple who, even though they were bad at marriage are also bad at divorce and continue to remain in each other’s lives.  Mike Sikowitz, Rules of Engagement EP sold the pitch to CBS via his overall deal at Sony.  Sikowitz will co-write and serve as EP with Israeli creator, Daniel Lappin.  Noa Tishby, who sold HBO the rights to In Treatment and a yet-to-be named executive from the Israeli production company Reshet will also serve as EPs on the project.  Old Charlie Productions and Reshet will produce in association with Sony Pictures Television.

Yesterday the Weather Channel Companies (TWCC) approved a new original series titled Lifeguard! produced by LMNO Productions.  The half-hour docudrama series follows the male and female lifeguards who work along the dangerous and varied region comprising California’s 150-mile coastline.  The 13-episode series is slated to premiere in February 2012 and will join other original programs on The Weather Channel such as Twist of Fate, Storm Riders and the upcoming Coast Guard Alaska which debuts November 9 at 9p.

James McCaffrey, last seen in FX’s Rescue Me playing a guardian angel, is joining ABC’s primetime soap Revenge in a recurring role, reports TVLine.  McCaffrey will play Ryan Huntley, a no-nonsense attorney who represented Lydia’s husband in their nasty divorce.  McCaffrey’s role will be introduced in the current season’s tenth episode in January.
