Tonight’s Premieres: Tonight’s Finale: In a memo to staffers released yesterday, Jeff Gaspin, who serves as Chairman/NBC Universal Television Entertainment announced he was leaving NBCU soon after the company’s merger with Comcast is final. Last week, reports speculated that Gaspin would leave NBCU once the merger deal was complete. In his memo, Gaspin said he had “many good conversations with new NBCU CEO Steve Burke about his role at the new NBCU.” However, Gaspin said he and Burke could not agree on how he would fit into the company following the merger. Gaspin has been with NBCU for 19 years serving in various capacities including finance, news, cable and broadcast and in his current role since July 2009. Gaspin concluded his memo to fellow staffers by saying, “I leave NBC Universal with an obvious sense of sadness and loss, but I’ll be forever grateful for my relationships with my colleagues and those who gave me a chance to participate in the success of this great company. NBC handed a sixth season renewal to 30 Rock and the sitcom has averaged a 3.1 rating among A18-49 this fall. Additionally, NBC revealed the premiere dates for its new and returning series for midseason: truTV gave its reality series Hardcore Pawn a second season order consisting of eight new episodes debuting next month. Produced by Zodiak USA, Hardcore Pawn showcases a large pawn shop in Detroit and the family that operates it. When Hardcore Pawn debuted last August, it gave truTV its most-watch series launch ever. VH1 premieres season two of Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business on December 5 at 11p. Season two follows siblings and former child stars, Brandy and Ray J Norwood as both remain involved with the music industry all the while managing their family business, RnB Productions. The series is produced by 51 Minds Entertainment, LLC, an Endemol Company. VERSUS launched the new live hockey show, NHL Overtime this last Monday. The one-hour NHL Overtime airs Monday through Thursday at 11p after the post-game coverage on Hockey Central. NHL Overtime offers hockey fans news and updates about the NHL and more. BBC America serves up the US premiere of Ramsay’s Best Restaurant starting December 7 at 9p. The 11-episode series features Chef Gordon Ramsay selecting his favorite restaurants in the UK basing his choices on eight different culinary categories. The restaurant finalists will then battle it out with one receiving the title of Ramsay’s Best Restaurant. In addition, BBC America will air two holiday special episodes of Gordon Ramsay’s Ultimate Christmas on December 14 at 10p and December 21 at 10p. Hailing in the New Year, Food Network opens a second season of its primetime reality series Worst Cooks in America beginning January 2 at 9p. The eight-week competition series follows sixteen bad cooks, who were nominated by their family and friends as they split up into two teams led by co-hosts Chef Anne Burrell (Secrets of a Restaurant Chef) and new to this season Chef Robert Irvine (Dinner: Impossible). Each one-hour episode witnesses the recruits using techniques they learned from their chef leaders as the teams are put to the test with challenging culinary obstacles. The season finale airing on February 20 at 9p will watch at the two final recruits prepare a three-course, restaurant-quality meal for a panel of culinary experts consisting of Donatella Arpaia, Marc Murphy and Drew Nieporent. TLC is renewing its food obsession series, Freaky Eaters for a second season, reports THR. The first season averaged 1.2 million viewers each episode since the series premiered in early September. Season two will debut next summer. In other TLC news, the series premiere of Sarah Palin’s Alaska on Sunday at 9p became the network’s best ever program launch in TLC’s history among HH and total viewers (P2+). The opening episode attracted 4.96 million total viewers, 1.8 million among A25-54 and 1.6 million with A18-49 viewers as well as delivering a 3.5 HH rating. On January 21, CMT will premiere new half-hour reality series Meet The In-Laws in addition to the fourth season of My Big Redneck Wedding hosted by Tom Arnold. Then on January 28, CMT bows the new scripted comedy series Working Class starring Melissa Peterman with back-to-back episodes. OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network acquired three more documentary films for its documentary film club opening next spring. The film titles are One Lucky Elephant, 65_Redroses and Most Valuable Players. Discovery Communications and the BBC are extending their current North American co-production partnership spanning 25 years by two more years until 2014. To date, the partnership has produced high-profile worldwide programming events such as Life, Planet Earth, Blue Planet and Wonders of the Solar System. Furthermore, BBC Worldwide is selling its 50% interest in the joint venture global television networks Animal Planet and Liv to Discovery for $156 million. Animal Planet reaches 250 million cumulative subscribers worldwide in more than 170 countries while Liv is a general entertainment network that reaches 24 million cumulative subscribers in 33 Latin American markets. Following this sale, BBC Worldwide has plans to focus solely on its wholly-owned channels including BBC America, BBC Entertainment, BBC Knowledge, BBC Lifestyle, BBC HD and CBeebies which are available to 107 million subscribers in more than 100 countries. CBS is working on a half-hour comedy based on the life and career of Colin Cowherd, an ESPN radio and TV host. Bill Martin and Mike Schiff (Grounded for Life) will write and serve as executive producers along with Eric Tannenbaum and Kim Tannenbaum. Cowherd will also be a producer on the show from CBS TV Studios. Currently, Cowherd is the host of ESPN’s syndicated radio show, The Herd with Colin Cowherd and SportsNation on ESPN2. NBC approved an eight-episode reality dating series titled Love in the Wild (wt) with a projected premiere set for next summer. The competition elimination show is described as The Bachelor meets Survivor with some Temptation Island thrown in where ten men and ten women looking for love compete in a series of physically and emotional challenges set in an exotic, remote location. Endemol USA is behind the project and Tom Shelly (Survivor) is executive producing. NBC Alternative President Paul Telegdy said the network’s summer series America’s Got Talent may be paired with Love in the Wild (wt). Endemol USA will also handle international distribution of the series and NBC Universal will be involved with domestic distribution. Endemol USA and NBCU co-own the format. ~ RATINGS ~

Former Director of Strategy/Business Development at A&E Television Networks, Benjamin (BJ) Elias was tagged as VP/Advanced Services with Fox Networks (FN) Affiliate Sales and Marketing. In his new position, BJ will be in charge of product management and negotiations involving major cable, satellite, and telco affiliates as well as non-traditional distributors for all of FN’s upper-level services products such as VOD, ITV, 3D, mobile TV, advanced advertising and authenticated internet video. BJ will additionally develop product strategy for television distribution on behalf of emerging digital platforms and new incremental revenue-enhancing products. At FN, BJ reports to Julie Simon, SVP/Advanced Services, FN Affiliate Sales and Marketing. CNN en Espanol appointed Eduardo Suarez to the newly-minted position of VP/Programming based in Miami. In this role, Eduardo will travel to the network’s bureaus and the Atlanta headquarters in addition to being on location wherever news is happening. Eduardo will head the strategic planning and implementation for the network’s programs, specials and on-location events across the network’s three feeds including pan-regional, Mexico and US. Eduardo’s scope also includes managing production teams in Atlanta and Miami and the development of all new media content. CBS elevated Phil Gonzales to SVP/Communications, CBS Entertainment and to Lauri Metrose to SVP/Communications, CBS Television Studios. Lauri supervises consumer publicity, strategic business communications, promotions, talent and producer relations and awards campaigns on behalf of the studio. Phil manages CBS’ publicity campaigns for primetime series, specials, long-form, late night and daytime programming. He also is the media contact for network activities in program development, casting and scheduling. Both Lauri and Phil report to Chris Ender, SVP/Communications, CBS. Steve Krakauer was tapped as Digital Producer for CNN’s upcoming nightly program Piers Morgan Tonight slated to premiere in January. Steve has been serving as Senior Editor of Mediaite.com where he assisted in the site’s launch in July 2009 and covered media and television news. Steve Forbes, Chairman/Editor in Chief of Forbes Media declared Mike Perlis will become President/CEO of the company. Mike, who joins from SoftBank Capital where he was General Partner, begins his new post at Forbes Media on December 1. Furthermore, Tom Forbes who has served as COO will remain as Chairman of Forbes Digital, a member of the Board of Forbes Media and a chief strategist for the company.
