Good morning. It’s Tuesday, November 12, 2013, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing. 

MTV is teaming with Major League Baseball via a multi-year, cross-platform programming partnership designed to “bring fans inside the intersection of pop culture and baseball as their favorite MLB athletes and celebrities are featured across MTV’s platforms.” The deal leads off with Red Sox DH and 2013 World Series MVP David Ortiz and Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star Centerfielder Andrew McCutchen executive producing a new weekly, 30-episode series on MTV2 that will debut in April 2014.  The series will be shot in New York City from inside the MLB Fan Cave and look to showcase the stars’ personalities and passions through a series of player interviews and features, in addition to celebrity appearances. Overall, content from the new partnership will run across MTV’s channels and platforms  MTV, MTV2, mtvU, MTV Hits and MTV Jams  integrating MLB players into existing shows and events, in addition to the development of upcoming specials, weekend programming and more.
On the Air

FOX Sports locked down Feld Motor Sports for five years with a new agreement to telecast Feld’s motor sports stadium and arena properties – Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, Monster Jam, AMSOIL Arenacross and the Monster Energy Cup – on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports 2 beginning in January. Together, the two channels will deliver more than 291 hours of Feld Motor Sports property programming per year to their multi-sport audience with 115 hours of original programming and 51 hours of live coverage. In addition, FOX Sports will provide digital coverage of all four Feld properties on the motor sports channel of FOXSports.com.

CBS Sports announced that its SEC on CBS football game for Saturday, Nov. 23 will feature Texas A&M/LSU.  The action begins at 3:30p with Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson and reporter Tracy Wolfson calling the contest from Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.

Rivals.com’s top-ranked college football recruit Da’Shawn Hand will make his college declaration live on NBCSN’s SportsDash with Yahoo Sports on Thursday at noon. SportsDash will create a specially produced show surrounding the event, including feature segments on Hand, interviews with football experts, and analysis from Rivals.com’s national recruiting director, Mike Farrell, and Yahoo Sports college football columnist Pat Forde. Yahoo Sports will produce a separate show that will stream live on Rivals.com. Hand will select between Alabama, Florida and Michigan.

ONE World Sports will carry the Jordan/Uruguay contest in an inter-continental playoff match to decide which country will qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The first part of a two-leg playoff between the teams takes place Wednesday at 10a.

MSG Network named recently-retired goaltender Martin Biron as the newest studio analyst for its New York Rangers game telecasts this season. Biron will make his first appearance today during pregame, intermission and postgame coverage when the Rangers host the New Jersey Devils at Madison Square Garden starting at 6:30p.

FOX Sports entered into an agreement with the Big East Conference to sell the conference’s sponsorship assets and broadcast advertising. Under the two-year deal, FOX Sports and the conference will team up in “creating and executing an integrated sales approach that includes the presenting sponsorship for all conference championships and other highly sought-after assets, including category and official conference sponsorship levels and a wide range of Big East telecast and non-telecast inventory.”

NBC Sports Digital is pairing up with StubHub in a multi-year agreement that makes StubHub the exclusive ticket provider of NBC Sports Digital properties. The agreement will see direct links to StubHub across 12 NBC Sports Digital websites, including NBCSports.com, NBC Sports Talk Blogs, Rotoworld.com and select NBC Sports Regional Networks sites. Participating NBC Sports Regional Networks include CSNBayArea.com, CSNCalifornia.com, CSNWashington.com, CSNBaltimore.com, and SNY.tv.

Samsung named its first international soccer player to star in its fantasy-inspired, soccer-themed GALAXY 11 campaign, with Lionel Messi coming aboard. The announcement included a one-minute video that chronicles Messi’s recruitment to join and serve as team captain of GALAXY 11. Ten other international soccer superstars will be named to GALAXY 11 in the coming weeks across Samsung Mobile social channels and the campaign microsite.

MSG Networks is launching a new fan sweepstakes, dubbed The Tweet & Repeat Clyde Sweepstakes in 13 upcoming Knicks telecasts. Starting November 13, the campaign will see MSG broadcaster Walt “Clyde” Frazier encouraging viewers to Tweet their favorite Clyde rhymes during the games using the hashtag #TweetandRepeat and even make suggestions for him to use in the telecast. Nightly prizes include Clyde autographed basketballs, and one Grand Prize winner at the end of the schedule will receive dinner with Clyde at his Manhattan restaurant, tickets to an upcoming Knicks game and a photo with the NBA Champion at center court of Madison Square Garden.

Quicken Loans signed on to take over naming rights for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway next November in Avondale. Advocare International LP sponsored this year’s race.

Media and marketing services agency The Legacy Agency, Inc. is launching Baseball City, next March. The two day interactive fan and baseball, held at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona on March 15-16, 2014, will serve as a trade show and fan fest for the baseball industry and enthusiast with the goal of emulating the likes of Comic Con and the PGA Merchandise Show with a fully packaged and immersive experience in both b-to-b and b-to-c. 

The Atlanta Braves are on the hunt for a sponsor interested in naming rights for their new stadium, which will be located in Cobb County, according to the team. The move ends the team’s run at Turner Field with the goal of opening the new venue in time for the 2017 Major League Baseball season.

Digital & Technology

Marketing automation technology company Phizzle, Inc. entered a strategic partnership with Learfield Sports as a preferred solutions provider. The partnership will leverage digital and enterprise software technologies to maximize sponsorship revenues and drive fan engagement through mobile marketing. The collaboration offers more than 50 collegiate and entertainment properties a self-service, highly scalable, cloud-based mobile marketing solution to create, manage and analyze mobile marketing initiatives including a spectrum of text messaging campaigns and in-venue video board presentations.

Roster Moves

ESPN Audio is undergoing an internal reorganization in a move to “focus on its efforts at both the network-wide and local levels.” ESPN Network Audio will continue to be led by Mo Davenport, Senior VP while ESPN Local, which includes both the three owned and operated stations and the accompanying web sites, as well as ESPNDallas.com, will be overseen by Jim Pastor, Senior Vice President. Pastor will oversee two areas  Local Revenue and Local Content. Davenport will be responsible for three units  National Sales Revenue, Audio Digital & Marketing Strategy and Network Content.

Learfield Sports named Branden Miller as the company’s Senior Director, Digital Sales for the national sales team. The newly created position looks to serve as a bridge between national, regional and local advertisers and the company. Miller has been with Learfield Sports since 2005.
