NBC was active yesterday by picking up three pilots to series.  The  network ordered 13 episodes of the single-camera comedy Save Me starring Anne Heche.  NBC further gave series orders to the single-camera comedy The New Normal from Ryan Murphy and Ali Adler produced by 20th Century Fox Television and to the action drama Revolution from J.J. Abrams and Eric Kripke produced by Warner Bros. Television and Bad Robot Productions.  These projects join NBC’s recently approved Matthew Perry helmed series Go On.

Yesterday ABC News and Univision News have agreed in principle to launch a yet to be named multiplatform joint news venture in 2013 targeting Hispanic Americans.  The new 24/7 network will become America’s first English-language channel for English-dominant and bilingual Hispanics and will further integrate digital and social platforms.  The network will feature journalists of ABC News and Univision News covering current issues such as the economy, health care, immigration, education, politics, as well as lifestyle and entertainment stories with a Latino perspective offered in English.  The transaction between ABC News and Univision News is subject to the finalization of definitive agreements.   The joint news network will have its management team unveiled this summer with anchors and correspondents based in major cities across the US while ABC News and Univision News will share newsgathering and production resources.   A website, mobile and social media content will also launch this summer.  Hispanics in America is the youngest and fastest-growing demographic in the US at 50 million to date and currently represents 16% of the total US population, a number that is expected to double to 30% by 2050.

A month after its series premiere, Lifetime renewed its scripted series The Client List for a second season.  Starring and executive produced by Jennifer Love Hewitt, the next season of The Client List will have 15 episodes debuting in 2013.  The Client List debuted on Lifetime April 8 at an average of 2.8 million total viewers, becoming the network’s most-watched series launch since Drop Dead Diva in 2009.  The Client List is produced by Fedora Films and Jaffe/Braunstein in association with Sony Pictures Television.  Season one of The Client List continues on Sundays at 10p.

Sunday’s season two premiere of Sherlock on PBS’ MASTERPIECE Mystery! averaged 3.2 million total viewers, not including station replays, DVRs or online streaming, according to Nielsen Fast National data.  Two more new episodes of Sherlock air on Sunday nights May 13 and 20 at 9p (check local listings).  MASTERPIECEon PBS is presented by WGBH Boston.

Game show creator Bob Stewart died last Friday in Los Angeles at the age of 91.  Mr. Stewart was the creator of several Mark Goodson game shows including The Price Is Right, To Tell the Truth and Password.  He additionally served as producer and creator through his own company, Bob Stewart Productions of 15 network series including the game show franchise Pyramid which started with The $10,000 Pyramid in 1973.  Mr. Stewart was inducted into the Academy Hall of Fame in 2009 and was interviewed and featured in the Game Shows episode of the 2008 PBS docu-series Pioneers of Television.  Mr. Stewart is survived by his son Sande, who joined his father in his production company business, sons Barry and David; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Rive Gauche Television sold more than 300 hours of content throughout Latin America consisting of unscripted and dramatic fare.  The sales include: Operation Repo (65 x 30) to Turner Latin America, pan regional; The Girl’s Guide to Depravity (13 x 30) to HBO Latin America, pan regional; Whacked Out Sports (104 x 30) to Guatevision in Guatemala; Dog Whisperer seasons 5 and 6 (73 x 60) to SER TV, Panama; and Amazing Animal Videos (80 x 30) to Brazil’s Rede Record.

Multiplatform premium entertainment service, EPIX picked up two films, Marvel Studio’s and Paramount Picture’s The Avengers and Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games and will be the first network to premiere both films.

The second season of FX’s anthology series American Horror Story from Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk has added James Cromwell (Babe) to its cast roster.  American Horror Story’s next season will feature a new premise, location at an East Coast-based institution for the criminally-insane managed by Jessica Lange’s character and the plot may be set in a different era as well.  Cromwell will play Dr. Arden, the foil to Lange’s character who is the person in charge at the facility. 

CMT has made a development deal with former WWE wrestler Steve Austin (aka Stone Cold).  The deal has Austin hosting the new reality series Redneck Island where 12 rednecks are dropped in a tropical location where they will compete for $100,000.   Redneck Island is set to premiere in June and will be paired with the second season of My Big Redneck Vacation.  The deal involving Austin also includes his production company, Broken Skull Ranch Productions producing other new series for CMT.  Redneck Island is produced by 51 Minds Entertainment.

USA Network’s six-episode drama series Political Animals tapped Dylan Baker in the recurring role as Vice President Fred Collier.  Baker joins the cast that includes Sigourney Weaver, Adrian Pasdar, Carla Gugino, Ciaran Hinds, James Wolk, Sebastian Stan, Ellen Burstyn and Brittany Ishibashi.  Principal photography is presently underway in Philadelphia.  Political Animals will premiere July 15 at 10p and is produced by Berlanti Productions and Laurence Mark Productions in association with Warner Horizon Television.

Friday A18-49 Analysis:  ABC and Univision each delivered a 1.6/5 tying for #1 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  At 8p, ABC’s Shark Tank took a bite out of the competition at 1.8/7 followed by CBS’ Undercover Boss at 1.5/6.  Univision’s Abismo de Pasion did best at 9p with a 1.6/5 while a three-way tie for #2 happened between ABC’s Primetime: What Would You Do?, CBS’ CSI: NY and NBC’s Grimm at 1.4/5 each.  Univision’s La Que No Podia Amar topped during the 10p hour at 1.8/6 and ABC’s 20/20 was next at 1.5/5.

Bravo Media named Nancy Jo to the newly-minted role as VP/Digital Strategy and Business Development.  Nancy’s scope includes developing and executing business growth strategies and efforts in the digital arena for the network.  She will also be involved with targeting new partnerships and market trends in order to grow revenue for the core digital businesses across multiple platforms.  Nancy will be based in New York and will report to Lisa Hsia, EVP/Digital Media for Bravo.  Previously, Nancy was Senior Director/Business Development at VEVO.

Media and marketing agency Media Storm has added Joshua Kornblit as Director/Digital for its newly-established Los Angeles office.  Joshua’s new position is effective immediately.  Prior to this appointment, Joshua was Director/Digital at Moxie Interactive.
