News Corp.‘s board of directors has approved a plan to separate the media conglomerate into two publicly traded companies. News Corp.’s publishing business will keep the name News Corp., while its entertainment business will be called 21st Century Fox. Rupert Murdoch and sons James and Lachlan will sit on both boards, while President and COO Chase Carey sits on the board of the entertainment company. The separation is expected to be finalized on June 28.

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

It’s a Reunion! E! News is reporting that FOX‘s American Idol has inked a deal with its first new judge for season 13: former contestant and Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson. The two remaining spots are, reportedly, intended for former Idol contestants, too. Namely, Kelly Clarkson and either Adam Lambert or Clay Aiken. Season 12’s panel, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Randy Jackson and Keith Urban, will not be returning for next season.

Yahoo has joined the mix of parties interested in Hulu. Bloomberg reports that KKR & Co. and Silver Lake Management, in partnership with William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, have submitted bids for the TV streaming site. In addition, Reuters reports that Yahoo submitted a proposal on Friday. Other companies that have offered to purchase Hulu are DirecTV, Time Warner Cable, former News Corp. executive Peter Chernin. and Guggenheim Digital Media. Hulu is a co-venture of Fox/News Corp., Walt Disney Co. and NBCUniversal/Comcast.

Russell Simmons has inked a two-year overall deal with HBO. The television and music producer will create and develop projects for the network. The agreement reunites Simmons with HBO, which was home to his Def Comedy Jam series (1992-1997, 2006-2008).

Syfy‘s Paranormal Witness returns on Wednesday, June 5 at 10p with the first of 20 new episodes. Season three begins with The Long Island Terror, featuring intense demonic activity at a house bought by the widow of a New York City Fire Department lieutenant after her husband is killed in the line of duty. The show is produced by Raw TV.

The Voice‘s Blake Shelton has organized and will headline the telethon Healing in the Heartland: Relief Benefit Concert on May 29 at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City. Miranda Lambert, Reba and Vince Gill are also slated to perform with additional guests to be announced. The concert will be televised live at 9p on NBC, as well as the cable networks Style, G4, Bravo, E! and CMT on either a live or delayed basis.

The Real Housewives of New York City might be missing a royal in season six. Countess LuAnn de Lesseps remains the lone holdout in the cast’s salary dispute with Bravo. With production for the show already having begun, de Lesseps’ offer is reportedly for a less prominent role than the one she was originally offered.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment for Fox Broadcasting Company, is leaving the network at the end of June. “I’m extremely grateful that FOX has offered me a new long term contract (and anyone who knows me won’t believe I’m saying this), but I’ve decided it’s time for a change,” said Darnell in a statement. “With my current deal ending in June, and having been here for 18 years (kind of a record in Hollywood), I had to make a decision: either stay (and basically admit to myself I was going to retire at FOX… not a terrible choice) or leave and try something new. I’ve been in ‘Reality’ since before it was even called that, and it has truly been an amazing ride. However, the world has changed drastically over the last few years and now with hundreds of channels and limitless ways to watch television, I’ve decided this was the perfect time to take advantage of the rapidly changing marketplace.” Darnell, who joined FOX in 1994, has overseen the launch of such hit shows as American Idol, The X Factor and Hell’s Kitchen

ABC Media Group has announced that Rachel Miskowiec has joined Katie as Executive Producer. Miskowiec, who last served as a development executive at Telepictures Productions, has an extensive background in daytime television production.  She served as executive producer on The Tyra Banks Show, garnering two Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Informative Talk Show, and executive-produced Dr. Drew’s Lifechangers and OWN‘s Your Best Life Now.
