~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

A one-hour extension of ABC News’ Good Morning America titled Good Afternoon America will begin airing for a nine-week run starting July 9 at 2p.  Anchors for the program will be GMA’s Josh Elliott and Lara Spencer with Sam Champion, Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos making special appearances.  Good Afternoon America will highlight celebrities, performances, pop-culture news as well as original entertainment, lifestyle, health and workplace and consumer reporting.  Good Afternoon America will be taped at GMA’s studio New York City’s Times Square. 

CBS ordered a new season of comedy Rules of Engagement starring David Spade and Patrick Warburton.   The new season will have 13 episodes and will serve as a mid-season replacement series.  During this season, Rules of Engagement has averaged a 3.3/9 rating/share among A18-49 and 10.2 million total viewers.  

This Thursday, Univision Network premieres a new novela titled Un Refugio Para el Amor (A Shelter for Love) starring Zuria Vega and Gabriel Soto as a couple divided by class differences and rivalries though can’t resist surrendering to their feelings.  The two-hour Un Refugio Para el Amor will air Monday-Friday at 7p.

Sci-fi drama Sanctuary was canceled by its network Syfy.  Last December, Sanctuary completed its 13-episode fourth season that starred former Stargate cast member, Amanda Tapping.

Vintage vehicle restorers, Richard Rawlings and Aaron Kaufmann of Dallas-based Gas Monkey Garage are the focus of the new Discovery Channel series Fast N’ Loud premiering June 6 at 10p.  Rawlings and Kaufmann take derelict vehicles such as ’57 Chevys to ’73 Trans Ams transforming them to their former glory and road ready.  Pilgrim Studios produces Fast N’ Loud for Discovery Channel. 

Over the next several months, The Weather Channel Companies (TWCC) will roll out three new miniseries as part of the network’s Braving the Elements, a new docu-series anthology profiling the work, subculture and people involved in professions that are exposed to the elements and impacted by the weather.  Pyros follows an elite group of pyro-technicians led by Maude Furtado at Montreal’s Groupe Fiatlux-Ampleman who battle variable weather conditions while producing large-scale fireworks displays worldwide.  Pyros will have eight one-hour episodes premiering June 19 at 9p.  Iceberg Hunters follows a group of men who travel through Iceberg Alley, as they search for, wrestle and harvest ice bringing it back to land for the production of pure bottled water and vodka.  Iceberg Hunters premieres September 18 at 9p with four half-hour episodes produced by Rogue State Productions in association with Lionsgate Television.  The third installment is Reefmakers following a family of experienced divers and demolition experts who attempt to reduce erosion and pollution in order to restore the coastline of Alabama by creating artificial reefs.  Reefmakers is produced by Gurney Productions with four half-hour episodes set to launch October 9 at 9p.  Under the Braving the Elements docu-series anthology banner previously-announced Hurricane Hunters premieres June 11 and CoastGuard Florida opens in October.

This summer, DIRECTV’S Audience Network launches the US premiere of the drama Hit and Miss starring Chloe Sevigny from Paul Abbott (Shameless, State of Play) on July 11 at 10p immediately following the season five debut of Damages.  Hit and Miss will be a part of a new Wednesday night summer programming block and relates the story of a contract killer, Mia (Sevingy) who is a transgender woman that discovers she fathered a son eleven years before.  Mia becomes guardian to a new family and her killer instincts become confused with her newly developing maternal instincts.  Hit and Miss is the first original series commissioned by Sky Atlantic in the UK and is a co-production of Abbott’s production and development company AbbottVision and Red Production Company. 

For the second straight year, REELZCHANNEL will air the 2012 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, produced by Spike Jones, Jr.  The awards will be taped on September 15 and a two-hour edited show will air on REELZCHANNEL September 22 at 8p. 

Summer premiere dates for a trio of series on AMC have been released. The part one debut of the final season of Breaking Bad opens July 15 at 10p.  The final season of Breaking Bad consists of 16 episodes with the first eight eps airing this summer and the latter eight scheduled for summer 2013.  Breaking Bad is produced by Sony Pictures Television.  Also on July 15, AMC premieres its newest unscripted series Small Town Security at 11p centered on a small, family-run private security company located in rural Georgia.  The first season of Small Town Security has eight half-hour episodes produced by Left/Right.  The season two premiere of epic western Hell on Wheels is back starting August 12 at 9p.  The second season of Hell on Wheels has 10 one-hour episodes executive produced by Endemol USA with Entertainment One (eOne) serving as the studio. 

WE tv revealed summer premiere dates for several of its original series.  New series L.A. Hair debuts May 31 at 10p then moves to its regular time slot of 10p on June 7.  Another new series, Kendra on Top launches June 5 at 10p.  A ninth season of Bridezillas opens June 10 at 10p and six new episodes of Braxton Family Values debuts August 16 at 9p.

In honor of Black Music Month, TV One is marking the celebration by calling it Our Music Month with concerts, movies and specials that acknowledge the contributions made by African-American artists to America’s music industry.  In addition, TV One is bringing back the first of eight all-new episodes of its series Unsung on June 25 at 9p.  The series opens with a look at the ’60s and ’70s funk and soul group Sly and the Family Stone.  For TV One’s complete lineup during June, please visit our website at www.cynopsis.com and look for TV One’s press article under Additional Industry News.

Beginning June 18, Nick at Nite debuts the original primetime drama Hollywood Heights at 9p which will air weeknights in the time period through October 2012.  Hollywood Heights was adapted for the US from a Mexican telenovela titled Alcanzar una Estrella.  Season one of Hollywood Heights has 80 episodes and is co-produced with Televisa in association with Sony Pictures Television.

New original comedy Baby Daddy has its world premiere on June 20 at 830p following an all-new episode of Melissa & Joey on ABC Family.   Baby Daddy is a multi-camera sitcom shot in front of a live studio audience in Los Angeles.  The comedy stars Jean-Luc Bilodeau as Ben, a 20-something guy who finds a baby girl left on his doorstep by an ex-girlfriend.  Ben decides to raise the baby himself with help from his overly-protective mother (Melissa Peterman), his friend, Tucker (Tahj Mowry), his brother, Danny (Derek Theler) and his close female friend, Riley (Chelsea Kane) who has a secret crush on him. 

A sixth season is gearing up for Ice Road Truckers when it returns to HISTORY’S schedule starting June 3 at 9p.  In the new season, IRT penetrates north on new roads, new ice and a new set of dangerous challenges.  Ice Road Truckers is produced for HISTORY by Original Productions, a FremantleMedia Company.

E!’s seventh season opener of Keeping Up With The Kardashians on Sunday at 9p, tallied 3.0 million total viewers which was +16% better than the sixth season premiere.  Sunday’s season premiere additionally delivered 2.0 million A18-49 viewers, a +20% increase over the last season’s premiere as well as 1.5 million W18-49 viewers, up +23% over last season’s debut.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CARRIAGE & CLEARANCE ~

Exclusive to Cynopsis: The Live Well Network will have exclusive US broadcast distribution of the Canadian lifestyle series Steven and Chris for fall 2012.  The series, hosted by Steven Sabados and Chris Hyndman, is a top-rated program in Canada and debuted in the US via the Live Well Network last September.  CBC Television produces the series which is distributed in the US by PPI Releasing.  Steven and Chris join other Live Well Network programming including My Family Recipe Rocks! hosted by Joey Fatone, We Owe What? with Mary Caraccioli and Live Big with Ali Vincent.  The new season of Steven and Chris will air weeknights at 9p on the Live Well Network, operated by ABC Owned Television Stations Group. 

Outside Television, independently owned and based on the 35-year old Outside Magazine, will launch on Comcast’s Xfinity TV systems nationwide beginning June 2012.  The upcoming launch on Xfinity TV systems will make Outside Television available to customers in Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Florida, Houston, Indianapolis, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Nashville, Portland, Sacramento, San Francisco and Seattle.  Outside Television will be included on Xfinity TV’s Sports and Entertainment Package. 

Entertainment Studios, Inc.’s two upcoming sitcoms, The First Family and Mr. Box Office were picked up by station owner groups including Tribune, Weigel and CBS Television Station Group.  Both sitcoms will be paired as a two-hour primetime weekend comedy block.  The First Family and Mr. Box Office have now been cleared in more than 85% of the US television homes and each sitcom received an initial order of 104 episodes for a total of 208 episodes.  The First Family and Mr. Box Office are both produced and distributed by Entertainment Studios.

A multi-year deal between Halogen TV and Red Bull Media House North America has Halogen TV acquiring several programs set to debut on the network this fall.  The partnership of Halogen TV and Red Bull Media House also includes cross-platform marketing initiatives.  The series Halogen TV picked up from Red Bull Media House consist of Ultimate Rush, Break’N Reality, Bouncing Cats and 20 Seconds of Joy.

Outdoor Channel increases its 2012-2013 programming by commencing production on a number of new and returning shows: Elite Tactical Unit, is a one-hour series hosted by US Special Forces veteran Mykel Hawke; a second season of Jack Link’s Major League Fishing is back in 2013; Ford Trucks Takes PBR Outdoors launches in third quarter 2012 as well as half-hour Outfitter Bootcamp; Sasquatch, produced by Trev Gowdy is also on tap for third quarter 2012.  Returning in third quarter is the half-hour MidwayUSA’s Gun Stories along with the half-hour Realtree’s NASCAR Outdoors, the half-hour Red Arrow and the 30-minute reality show Live 2 Hunt.  For fourth quarter 2012, Outdoor Channel has a new, extended season of half-hour series Field & Stream Total Outdoorsman Challenge and will launch Gun Stories: Rapid Fire, a half-hour companion show to series MidwayUSA’s Gun Stories. 

Gabriel Byrne will star in HISTORY’s first scripted series, Vikings slated to premiere in 2013.  Vikings will focus on the world of the Norsemen who raided, traded and explored during medieval times.  Byrne will star as Earl Haraldson, the most exalted ruler in Ragnar Lothbrok’s district.  Lothbrok is a historical figure and the greatest hero of his age and  HISTORY’s drama is about his band of Viking brothers and family as he rises to become King of the Viking tribes.  Vikings is an international Irish/Canadian co-production between World 2000 and Take 5 Productions.  The series will air on HISTORY in the US and MGM will represent Vikings globally serving as international distributor outside of Ireland and Canada.  Shaw Media is the broadcast partner in Canada airing the series on HISTORY Television in Canada.

Friday A18-49 Analysis:  Univision ranked #1 Friday at 1.6/6 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  At 8p, ABC’s season finale of Shark Tank trumped the competition at 1.6/6 though Univision’s Una Familia con Suerte was a close second at 1.5/6.  During 9p, NBC’s season conclusion of Grimm and Univision’s Abismo de Pasion tied for first place at 1.6/5 each and ABC’s Primetime: What Would You Do? came in third at 1.1/4.  Then at 10p, Univision’s La Que No Podia Amar was well ahead of the other networks at 1.8/6 and ABC was next again with 20/20 at 1.2/4.

Non-profit organization T. Howard Foundation whose mission is to promote diversity throughout the multimedia and entertainment industries added four new members to its Board of Directors.  The new Board appointees are Bridget Baker, President/TV Networks Distribution, NBCUniversal; A.B. Cruz III, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary, Scripps Networks Interactive, Inc.; Bill Goodwyn, President/Global Distribution and CEO of Discovery Education for Discovery Communications; and Ray Hopkins, COO for YES Network.

Guy Slattery advances to EVP/Marketing with A&E Network where he oversees all marketing efforts for A&E Network, BIO Channel and Crime & Investigation Network.  Guy’s scope encompasses brand strategy, on-air promotion, off-net media buying, creative advertising, social media and strategic partnerships.  Guy has been with the network since 2006, joining as SVP/Marketing.  With his new promotion, Guy will now add oversight of the network’s consumer public relations activities to his roster of duties.  Guy continues to report to Bob DeBitetto, President/GM, A&E and BIO Channel.

Mark Powell was appointed VP/Current Programming and Specials for truTV.  Mark will manage the implementation and have editorial oversight of the network’s current lineup of programs and specials.  Based in New York, Mark reports to Tony Horn, SVP/Current Programming and Specials, truTV.

Indianapolis-headquartered advertising agency Young & Laramore hired Kevin Wood as Digital Experience Producer and Lucia Bayt as Account Manager.  Both positions are effective immediately.  Kevin, reporting to Carolyn Hadlock, Executive Creative Director and Principal will manage digital production for the agency’s clients including Brizo, Schlage and Farm Bureau.  Lucia is the Account Manager for the Schlage account while reporting to Barbara Biancalana, Director/Client Services. 

Be The Creative Source is a new Atlanta-based advertising, promotion, design and interactive representation company established by Jeff Boortz who has served as creative director, brand strategist and graphic designer working for and promoting the brands of Discovery Channel, MTV, ESON, HBO, CBS, NBC, FOX and Comcast among others.  Be The Creative Source counts three companies as clients including Impossible based in Denver, international creative network United Senses and digital creative company Neo-Pangea. 

ABC News’ Ben Sherwood announced Amy Robach was tapped as a Correspondent for ABC News based in New York.  Most recently, Amy worked for NBC News where she was a national correspondent and weekend anchor for Today and prior to that was with MSNBC for many years as anchor of the morning news. 

NBCUniversal made a new multi-platform deal with former ESPN personality Michelle Beadle involving her on-air duties for Access Hollywood and the NBC Sports Group.  Michelle will be based in New York and serve as a Correspondent for the nationally syndicated entertainment news show Access Hollywood where she will cover red carpet events and report on Hollywood news.  In addition, Michelle will be a Correspondent for NBC Sports Group’s high-profile events such as this summer’s London Olympic Games which she will be also covering for Access Hollywood.  Furthermore, Michelle will be a part of the 2012 NFL Kickoff and Horse Racing’s Triple Crown as well as other NBC Sports Network programs.  The deal also includes NBC Sports Group developing new programming for NBC Sports Network featuring Michelle.
