KIDS STUFF

Doppelganger (f/k/a Evil Twin Studios) has opened the doors of The Lounge, a teen targeted virtual 3D nightclub, read: online social network community, designed to provide teens with a place to hangout, talk, dance, listen to music and take a dip in the VIP hot tub.  Doppelganger has also inked a deal with AOL for its AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) that is integrated with The Lounge service, allowing teens to use their existing AIM Buddy Lists and IM their friends as well as design and customize their own avatars, which respond to user direction that can make the avatar dance a specific dance, smile and so on.  Additionally, Doppelganger has pacted with Interscope Records’ artists including The Pussycat Dolls and will feature their music within The Lounge.

Following the debut of part one of the Degrassi season ender on June 2, The N will premiere its new series Beyond the Break, 8:30p.

Univision will broadcast Premios Juventud (Youth Awards) live from the University of Miami on July 13 from 8-11p.  The entertainment special will recognize nominees in five categories, Film, Music, Sports, Fashion and Pop Culture.  Several scholarships will also be awarded to Hispanic youths for their academic achievement. (Applications can be submitted by May 26, 2006 at Univision.com).  The nominees were announced yesterday at 4p on Univision’s El Gordo y La Flaca (The Scoop and the Skinny) show.  The Premios Juventud recipients will be determined by popular vote online on Univision.com (Keyword: Premios Juventud).

PBS and Discovery Education have entered into a multi-year media partnership under which a number of PBS series and specials will be made available for distribution to schools through Discovery Education’s digital videostreaming learning service.  PBS titles available to schools beginning this fall include the entire Cyberchase series; The Civil War and other Ken Burns documentaries; Freedom: A History of the US; and selected episodes from NOVA, American Experience, and Frontline among others.  The PBS programs will be correlated to state curriculum standards and offered for teachers to stream or download for use in class.  Discovery Education’s learning service is licensed to 70,000+ schools.

CartoonNetwork.com launches the Big Fat Awesome House Party, a new interactive game, this week.  Based on Cartoon Network’s series Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, the new game lets kids create their own imaginary friend that will live in the house with Bloo and the other friends.  New game levels, adventures, mini-games and upgrades will rollout throughout this year and into 2007.  This summer, Big Fat Awesome House Party will be part of an event tied to new episodes of the series.

Educate Products, parent company of Hooked on Phonics, and toy company Zizzle LLC have joined together in a multi-year pact to create a new line of electronic learning aids for K3-12.  Under the deal Zizzle will design and market an educational line of portable devices and learning systems under the Hooked on Phonics brand, with products are slated to debut in 2007.  Educate Products retail strategy includes introducing 60+ new Hooked On branded titles this year.  Earlier this year Educate partnered with Western New York Public Broadcasting Association to co-produce the TV series Reading Rainbow and market, license and sell products based on the property.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s Dualstar Entertainment is expanding its array of products available at retailer Claire’s Stores Inc., beginning this July, 2006.  The new group of mary-kateandashley brand accessories includes hats, belts, earrings, bracelets, watches, necklaces, rings, pins, sunglasses and stationery products (e.g. locking diary, spiral notebook and pens), with products in additional such as electronic devices and cold weather accessories to join later.  Under the initial deal between Dualstar and Claire’s Stores a group of 18 mary-kateandashley brand fragrances and cosmetics debuted in January 2006 at the retailer.

The Entertainment Software Association reports that the 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo, held last week in LA, drew 60,000 industry attendees, while E3Insider.com, the shows official consumer news site, received close to 1.5 million visits over the three days off the show.  Now, get out your schedules, E3Expo 2007 is slated for May 16-18, 2007 in LA.
