After getting a creative refurbish, NBC is re-launching its frosh drama series, Law & Order: Los Angeles with a two-hour premiere episode on April 11 at 9p. The series will then air in its regular time slot of Mondays at 10p starting April 18. Series star Alfred Molina returns in a new role as Det. Ricardo Morales and former Law & Order star Alana de la Garza is also joining the cast.
Charlie Sheen received a pink slip yesterday from Warner Bros. Television which ends his contract as star of Two and a Half Men on CBS. Sheen had one more season left on his contract with Warner Bros. for the comedy series. The studio did not say what will happen to the sitcom in the future, keeping their released statement confined to their decision on the now former star: “After careful consideration, Warner Bros. Television has terminated Charlie Sheen’s services on Two and a Half Men effective immediately.”
Beginning March 28, FUEL TV, part of Fox Sports Media Group aiming toward young males will become a Nielsen-rated network.
Eight television programs will be honored at the Fourth Annual Television Academy Honors sponsored by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on May 5. Dana Delany, star of the upcoming drama Body of Proof for ABC, will host the ceremony which “celebrates the power of television to change attitudes and lives.” The eight programs include:
- Documentary The 16th Man produced by ESPN Films in association with Revelations Entertainment.
- Showtime series The Big C for its season finale episode titled “Taking The Plunge” produced by SHOWTIME Presents, Sony Pictures Television, Perkins Street Productions, Farm Kid and Original Film.
- Family drama series DirecTV’s Friday Night Lights for its episode titled “I Can’t” produced by Imagine Television, Film 44 and Universal Media Studios.
- Docu-reality series ABC’s Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution produced by Fresh One Productions and Ryan Seacrest Productions.
- The Oprah Winfrey Show for “A Two-Day Oprah Show Event: 200 Adult Men Who Were Molested Come Forward” produced by Harpo Productions, Inc.
- NBC’s Parenthood series for its “Pilot” premiere episode produced by Imagine Television and Universal Media Studios.
- ABC’s Private Practice for its episode “Did You Hear What Happened to Charlotte King?” produced by ABC Studios.
- Documentary Wartorn 1861-2010 produced by Attaboy Films and Downtown Community Television in association with HBO Documentary Films.
Expanding on its franchise, Say Yes to the Dress, TLC is set to premiere the new eight-episode series, Say Yes to the Dress: Randy Knows Best (wt) on April 1 at 10p. The half-hour series follows Randy Fenoli, fashion director at Kleinfeld Bridal as he relates his top ten tips on numerous wedding dress-themed categories. The topics include choosing the right dress for your body type, selecting a dress to complement your wedding venue or theme among other topics. TLC is also bringing back the series, Say Yes to the Dress: Big Bliss for a sophomore season starting April 29 at 9p. TLC ordered 12 half-hour episodes of this series which follows plus-sized brides as they shop for their dream dress at Kleinfeld Bridal. Half Yard Productions is behind both series for TLC.
Taxidermy is the theme for a new half-hour series, Mounted in Alaska on HISTORY premiering April 7 with back-to-back episodes at 10p and 1030p. Mounted in Alaska follows taxidermist Russell Knight, owner of Knight’s Taxidermy a family-operated shop that is world-renowned among outdoorsmen for preserving wildlife and natural history. The series is produced for HISTORY by Thinkfactory Media which also sold 15 new episodes of Gene Simmons Family Jewels to A&E Network and six episodes of Sinbad’s Family Affair to WE tv.
Returning to the Big Apple, a sophomore season of John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show opens March 24 at midnight following The Colbert Report. In the new six-episode season, Oliver as host of the series is joined by more of his favorite comedians including Maria Bamford, Greg Behrendt, David Koechner, Kirk Fox, Al Madrigal among others.
Food Network wants more cake as a second season of Last Cake Standing debuts April 3 at 10p following the finale of Chopped All-Stars. The six-week competition series follows eight top American pastry chefs as they battle for the title of “Best Cake Artist in America” and a $100,000 grand prize. Justin Willman (Cupcake Wars) hosts the series which will air its subsequent episodes after the premiere on Sundays at 9p.
The summer slate of new and returning original series set on ABC Family as the network expands its original programming over three nights:
- Mondays: New one-hour scripted drama Switched at Birth launches June 6 at 9p. Additionally, new episodes of The Secret Life of the American Teenager air on Mondays during the summer at 8p.
- Tuesdays: The Nine Lives of Chloe King, also a new one-hour scripted drama opens June 14 at 9p, preceded by a sophomore season debut of Pretty Little Liars at 8p.
- Wednesdays: Freshly-minted half-hour comedy series, The Great State of Georgia starring Raven-Symone debuts June 29 at 830p preceded by new episodes of Melissa & Joey at 8p. Melissa & Joey returns to finish its first season.
- Also on Mondays: One-hour new scripted drama, The Lying Game bows August 15 at 9p.
Secret Millionaire launched on ABC Sunday at 8p with 12.6 million total viewers becoming the most-watched program that night. The premiere episode also posted a 3.3/9 among A18-49 ranking #2 for the night only behind the network’s own Desperate Housewives which delivered a 3.4/8.
Beautiful women gracing the fifth season opener of Univision’s reality beauty competition series, Nuestra Belleza Latina (Our Latin Beauty) Sunday at 8p propelled the network to reaching an average of 3.3 million total viewers, 1.7 million with A18-49 and 1.1 million among A18-34.
Season four premiere of Ruby on The Style Network Sunday at 8p pulled in 473,000 total viewers and delivered a 0.40 rating with W18-49.
Lifetime debuted a fifth new season of Army Wives on Sunday at 9p averaging 4.2 million total viewers, nearly 2.0 million with A25-54, 1.4 million with W18-49 and almost 1.5 million W25-54. Following at 10p, Lifetime’s new unscripted series, Coming Home bowed with an average of 2.7 million total viewers, 1.4 million A18-49, 1.3 million A25-54 viewers as well as 1.0 million with W18-49 and 998,000 among W25-54.
During the 10p hour Sunday, A&E Network premiered new original drama series Breakout Kings which brought in record numbers for the network with 2.8 million total viewers, 1.6 million A25-54 and 1.5 million among A18-49. Upcoming new episodes of Breakout Kings air on Sundays at 10p.
E!’s new late-night series After Lately debuted Sunday at 11p attracting close to 1.2 million total viewers and posting a 1.61 rating among W18-34 and a 1.08 with W18-49.
Unified marketing agency, Definition 6 became the agency of record for Rubbermaid Commercial Products, a brand of Newell Rubbermaid. Definition 6 will be involved with traditional and digital marketing efforts for Rubbermaid.

Discovery Communications is offering its complete footage archive via its new content licensing unit, Discovery Access. The archived footage spans 25 years and the focal point of Discovery Access is its website at DiscoveryAccess.com, an e-commerce site housing more than 100,000 hours of content from Discovery’s 28 entertainment networks and multi-platform brands. At this website, users can search, preview, license and download footage and new content will be added each day. Furthermore, Discovery Access also established the MyDiscovery unit that is responsible for taking Discovery footage beyond television.
Marc Anthony landed a regular series role on Hawthorne, the TNT drama series starring and executive produced by Jada Pinkett Smith. Anthony previously guest starred on two episodes last season and he will reprise his role as Police Detective Nick Renata. TNT is set to debut the third season of Hawthorne in June. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television in association with Pinkett Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment and Jamie Tarses’ FanFare Productions.
Country music star, Blake Shelton rounds out the quartet of judges for NBC’s new singing competition series, The Voice produced by Mark Burnett. Shelton joins previously-announced judges Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera. The Voice premieres April 26 at 9p.
Hank Azaria, well known for his past TV roles including a recurring stint on Friends and currently as a voice talent on FOX’s The Simpsons, was cast in NBC’s single-camera comedy pilot Free Agents. The pilot is based on a UK series of the same name highlighting the attraction between two on-the-rebound PR executives.

Friday A18-49 Analysis: Univision took control Friday night by delivering a 1.7/6 among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. Univision’s Eva Luna topped at 8p with a 1.7/6 while CBS’ The Defenders was #2 at 1.5/6. A two-hour Triunfo del Amor on Univision was first at 9p with 1.8/6 and NBC’s two-hour Dateline came in next at 1.6/5. The networks flip-flopped at 10p as NBC’s Dateline was #1 at 2.1/7 and Univision’s Triunfo del Amor was second at 1.6/6.
