FOX is tweaking the format of its summer series So You Think You Can Dance as it returns for a seventh season with a two-hour premiere starting May 27 at 8p. The dance competition series, hosted by Cat Deeley, will have only 10 finalists battling (five guys and five girls) with one dancer eliminated each week. Furthermore, the competitors will partner with an All-Star dancer from the show’s previous seasons. The All-Star Partners will be announced soon. The series is produced by 19 Entertainment Ltd. and dick clark productions.

National Geographic WILD network kicked off on Monday and the network will make its US premiere of the new series Rebel Monkeys tomorrow at 8p. The series follows a group of monkeys living at the Galta Temple in the city of Jaipur in India.

Travel Channel opens a second season of Dhani Tackles the Globe beginning April 19 at 11p. In the new season, former NFL linebacker Dhani Jones continues to combine his love of sports and travel as he journeys around the world experiencing native sports. Dhani will try his hand at bike racing in Italy; lutte wrestling in Senegal; the strongman competition in Iceland; cricket in Jamaica; water polo in Croatia; highland games in Scotland; beach volleyball in Brazil; soccer in South Africa; lucha libre in Mexico City; and the Mount Everest Base Camp climb in Nepal. The series is produced by Red Line Films for the Travel Channel.

ABC Family announced premiere dates for new and returning series this summer:

  • Pretty Little Liars – New drama about four estranged friends who reunite a year after their best friend and leader, Alison, goes missing. The group discovers they are receiving messages from an anonymous “A” who knows all their secrets. Based on the Alloy Entertainment young adult book series authored by Sara Shepard. Produced by Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Horizon Television. Premieres June 8 at 8p.
  • Huge – New series follows seven teens and the staff at a weight-loss camp as they discover their true selves. From Alloy Entertainment and based on the Alloy Entertainment book by Sasha Paley. Premieres June 28 at 9p.
  • Melissa & Joey – New 30m comedy starring and executive produced by Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence will premiere this August (date TBA).
  • The Secret Life of the American Teenager – Season three premieres June 7 at 8p.
  • Make It or Break It – Season two opens June 28 at 10p.

REELZCHANNEL, the network all about movies said it has added two original daily shows to its line-up as of this Monday:

  • Hollywood’s Top Ten – Countdowns of memorable scenes from current and old movies such as the top 10 on-screen kisses to top 10 car chases. Airs Monday-Friday at 730p.
  • Naked Trailers – Half-hour show takes a look at full-length movie trailers. Airs Monday-Friday at 1030p.

HBO canceled its sports talk show Joe Buck Live after airing only three episodes. Again.

Next weekend, Lifetime Television is full speed ahead on a promotion involving the fourth season premiere of Army Wives on April 11 at 10p, according to Multichannel News. During the NASCAR Nationwide Series Nashville 300 race this Saturday at 330p, JR Motorsports’ No. 7 car, driven by Scott Wimmer will be entirely wrapped with Army Wives branding. Some of the talent from the show will also make appearances during the race in Nashville.

DIRECTV is adding ESPN 3D in June, the first 3D sports network, to its upcoming 3D lineup which will include three solely 3D channels. DIRECTV’s 3D lineup will also include its own linear 3D channel, N3D powered by Panasonic. ESPN 3D will highlight 85 live sporting events during its inaugural year beginning June 11 with the first 2010 FIFA World Cup game. DIRECTV HD customers who signed up to receive ESPN will get ESPN HD for free.

In other news involving DIRECTV, the satellite provider made an agreement with The Documentary Channel (DOC), making the network available to its customers starting tomorrow. Following this new deal, DOC will reach more than 25 million homes nationally 24/7.

Entertainment Studios, Inc., producer and distributor of the series Career Day announced Tribune Broadcasting approved the launch of the series for Fall 2010 on its 23 television stations. Earlier this month, the series was cleared on Sinclair Broadcast Group stations in 29 markets for Fall 2011. The weekly 30m series shot in hi-def is an E/I offering for kids age 13-16. Career Day gives kids a chance to follow adults in various careers.

MEXICANAL Network is now carried in the state of Washington via the Hispanavision, LLC station K39FU-DT in Yakima Valley. Additionally, MEXICANAL’s digital broadcast is now available in Los Angeles, San Diego and Palm Springs along with expanded cable carriage in San Francisco. The Spanish-language network offering various entertainment, news and sports programming from regions throughout Mexico is distributed by Comcast cable, DIRECTV and digital broadcast.


AMC is moving forward with a zombie-themed six-episode series, The Walking Dead based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. The one-hour series begins production this June in Atlanta with actor Jon Bernthal playing lead character Shane. AMC plans on debuting The Walking Dead in October 2010 as part of the network’s Fearfest, an annual 14-day marathon of thriller and horror films. Kirkman will serve as executive producer along with Frank Darabont who will also write and direct. Gale Anne Hurd, chairman of Valhalla Motion Pictures will also serve as executive producer as well as David Alpert of Circle of Confusion and Charles “Chic” Eglee.

E1 Entertainment signed a two-year television production agreement with screenwriter David Hayter and his producing partner Benedict Carver. E1 will get a first look at all projects Hayter and Carver develop via their production banner, Dark Hero Studios. The deal covers scripted shows for network, cable and syndication. Dark Hero will be located at E1’s Los Angeles offices. The first project for Dark Hero is the television series Push, based on the 2009 feature film of the same name produced by Summit Entertainment. The TV series Push will be co-developed and produced by Summit Entertainment, Dark Hero and E1. Hayter will pen the series pilot along with Carver; E1’s John Morayniss and Noreen Halpern will serve as executive producers.

Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx returns to FOX with an urban-themed sketch/comedy untitled pilot. The project is a melding of two projects, the Foxx sketch/comedy show and one Sony-based Tantamount was doing headlined by Affion Crockett. FOX entertainment president, Kevin Reilly suggested marrying the two projects. In the pilot ordered by FOX, Crockett will be one of the stars and Foxx will executive produce along with Fax Bahr and Adam Small. Tantamount and Fox TV Studios are producing.

Christine Woods, currently co-starring on ABC’s Flash Forward may take on the female lead role in NBC’s comedy pilot Perfect Couples. The NBC casting is in second position to her role on the ABC drama Flash Forward.

In other casting news, per THR, Teri Polo was tapped for TBS’ 60m pilot Glory Daze; Jason Wiles joins ABC’s drama pilot Boston’s Finest; and Jayne Houdyshell and Joe Nunez were cast in FOX’s comedy pilot Wilde Kingdom.

Friday A18-49 Analysis: CBS led a clean sweep Friday night among A18-49 with a 3.3/11, according to fast affiliate ratings from Nielsen. During 8p, CBS topped with the NCAA Basketball Championships at 3.2/12 followed by the repeat broadcast of ABC’s new Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution at 1.6/6. CBS ticked up a notch with more NCAA basketball at 9p to a 3.3/11 and the new episode of Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution on ABC placed second with 2.6/8. CBS ended the night with its highest ratings for NCAA Basketball Championships at 3.5/11 and ABC was again playing second fiddle with 20/20 at 1.9/6.

Sucherman Consulting Group tapped Michael Diegnan as Search Consultant. Prior to this appointment, Michael was the Senior Broadband Producer for NBC Sports.

Katy Cross joins WGN America beginning April 5 as VP/Sales, Midwest Region based at the network’s office in Chicago. Additionally, WGN America promoted David Diederich to VP/Sales, Western Region, effective immediately based out of the Los Angeles office. Both will report to David Rotem, SVP/Sales and Marketing. Katy most recently was with Lifetime Entertainment Services where she was VP/Sales, Central Region.
