Two Sunday night reality series will continue on CBS during the 2011-2012 season. CBS renewed The Amazing Race for a 19th edition and Undercover Boss for a third run. Amazing Race’s fall edition delivered close to 12 million total viewers while this current season of Undercover Boss is averaging 12.3 million viewers and a 3.4/8 with A18-49. The Amazing Race is from Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Earthview Inc. in association with ABC Studios and Amazing Race Productions. Undercover Boss is produced by Studio Lambert Ltd.
A new original adventure series, Take a Seat: Sharing a Ride Across America premieres on Universal Sports April 4 with back-to-back episodes at 8p and 830p. The 10-episode docu-series follows British adventurer Dominic Gill and his 10 companions, all of whom suffer from different physical disabilities, as they journey across the US on tandem bicycles. The group will pedal from Santa Monica Pier in California to Yellowstone Park through the Badlands in South Dakota and arrive finally in New York’s Central Park. This series marks Universal Sports’ first-ever original series and full episodes will be available via the network’s website as they debut.
Anticipating Britain’s Royal Wedding next month on April 29, NBC News and various NBCUniversal networks presented their London-based coverage plans leading up to the event and for the actual wedding day. NBC News is partnering with UK’s ITN and serving up reports from 12+ network anchors and correspondents encompassing 20 hours of combined coverage from NBC and MSNBC on the wedding day. Highlights of NBC’s broadcast coverage includes:
- NBC Primetime Special titled Inside the Royal Wedding airing on April 27 at 8p hosted by NBC News’ Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira.
- Today begins its Royal Wedding coverage April 22 with Natalie Morales reporting live from London. Meredith Vieira will offer split coverage back to New York starting April 25 with Matt Lauer, Ann Curry and Al Roker joining Vieira in London for coverage on Thursday and Friday.
- On the Wedding Day, Today will offer a special edition starting at 4a across all time zones, reporting on the wedding happenings and further live coverage of wedding celebrations throughout London.
- Dateline will air a special report on Kate Middleton’s life and a preview of the wedding April 24 at 7p. In addition, Dateline will air a two-hour “instant documentary” about the wedding with Ann Curry reporting at 9p on April 29.
- Brian Williams will travel to London and anchor NBC Nightly News live starting April 27. Williams will also participate as co-anchor of Today’s special coverage of the Royal Wedding along with Lauer and Vieira on April 29.
- MSNBC will offer live reports from London starting April 24 with Martin Bashir contributing coverage starting April 25. MSNBC tapped Bashir and Chris Jansing to anchor live coverage of the wedding on April 29 beginning at 3a with Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski and Willie Geist taking over as lead anchors at 5a.
- Syndicated daily shows, Access Hollywood and Access Hollywood Live will broadcast from London starting April 25 through April 29.
- Bravo’s Andy Cohen hosts Watch What Happens Live: Royal Wedding Spectacular on April 28 at 11p.
- E! will stake out a spot in front of Buckingham Palace to cover the Royal Wedding for the week beginning April 25. E!’s Wedding Day live coverage will begin at 4a for five hours presented by Giuliana Rancic reporting from London.
- Telemundo offers anchors and reporters providing daily coverage from London starting April 25. On April 29, Telemundo will broadcast the Royal Wedding live and additionally air a one-hour wedding special that night.
- The Weather Channel will further join in the wedding festivities by providing forecasts and weather updates from London starting April 25 across all its platforms.
Through this Thursday, New Yorkers can sample Cajun food and come across life-like alligator sculptures crawling out of sewers as part of a History Channel promotion highlighting the season two premiere of Swamp People this Thursday at 9p.
Making it official, Comedy Central picked up 26 new episodes of animated sci-fi comedy series Futurama produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television. The 26 episodes comprise seasons 7-A and 7-B and the first 13 eps will premiere during summer of 2012 with the remaining 13 episodes launching during summer of 2013. The original voice cast of Futurama will reprise their roles including Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio. Rough Draft Studios, Inc. contributes the animation.
Beginning April 1, Sony Movie Channel adds the first of two new scheduling blocks to its schedule highlighting double-feature movies and movies targeting guys. Friday Features is a double-feature format with back-to-back movies starting April 1 with two comedies honoring Richard Pryor Here and Now and Live at the Sunset Strip. Then starting April 4, MANDAYS is a weekly movie block consisting of action, adventure and comedy films aiming at men and featuring such titles as Johnny Mnemonic, Sniper, 88 Minutes and more.
Wendy Williams begins as host of GSN’s new original daily strip series, Love Triangle on April 11 at 7p. Love Triangle is a talk show/game show format exploring the dynamics of real-life love triangles.
Independent full-service agency, Woods Witt Dealy & Sons was chosen as agency of record for Cheerwine. The New York-based agency will handle Cheerwine’s creative, strategy, interactive and media encompassing digital/video, social media, radio, outdoor, events and public relations.
Showtime posted 547,000 total viewers for the 9p season four finale of Californication which was followed by a surge of 1.16 million total viewers for the frosh season conclusion of Shameless at 10p. The season one finale of Shameless posted Showtime’s largest audience for a first season finale telecast in 10 years.

ESPN2 reports by April 1 it will be available in more than 100 million homes. The network launched on October 1, 1993 and now reaches as many homes as ESPN which hit its 100 million mark two months ago.
Delving into two unique American sub-cultures, Discovery Channel has commissioned a pair of new series, Moonshiners (wt) and Mountain Men of Alaska (wt) with both premiering this summer. Moonshiners from Magilla Entertainment focuses on a group of people living in Appalachia who continue the moonshine-making tradition passed down from previous generations. Mountain Men of Alaska, produced by Discovery Studios, centers on the Kilcher family and their community outside Homer, Alaska. The father, Atz Kilcher is the singer Jewel’s father and the series will spotlight the off-the-grid lifestyle of these homesteaders as they live off the land.
Culinary investigator and scientist Alton Brown remains a fixture on Food Network for another three years after re-upping his deal with the network. In his new agreement, Brown will develop new ongoing series for the network. Brown will also appear on several Food Network series as a guest star including two episodes of Food Network Star launching in June, a fourth season of The Next Iron Chef which begins shooting this spring with an October premiere planned and a tenth season of Iron Chef America opening this summer. Brown will further produce and star in three 60m Good Eats specials in 2011-2012 linked to the Thanksgiving holiday, chocolate and barbeque.
Antiques and collectible auction house, Morphy Auctions made a deal with Nancy Glass Productions to develop a documentary/reality television series. The proposed project will have the two entities working together on an antiques and auction focused show for broadcast on a major television network.
Lionsgate inked a two-year overall television deal with reality producer/development executive Eli Frankel, the former SVP/Development at Magical Elves. Frankel will further expand Lionsgate’s involvement in the area of alternative programming.
ABC tapped Rochelle Aytes and Kacie Lynch for its comedy pilot Work It. The plot centers on two unemployed guys, Angel (Amaury Nolasco) and Lee (Ben Koldyke) who dress as women to get jobs as pharmaceutical reps which ends up making them better men, husbands and fathers. Aytes will play Vanessa, Lee and Angel’s boss while Lynch plays the role of Kat. Warner Bros. Television is producing with Andrew Reich and Ted Cohen writing and executive producing.
Comedian Andrew Dice Clay cast in a recurring role for the final season of Entourage on HBO, cites THR. Clay will play a character in a cartoon show within the series and filming involving Clay begins in two weeks. The eighth and final season of Entourage premieres July 24.
Casting Call: Children’s network, The Hub is casting for a new original game show called Scrabble Showdown based on the famous word board game. The show is casting for parents and their 12-16 year old kids who live in the Los Angeles area. Friday A18-49 Analysis: CBS dribbled its way to #1 Friday night with a 2.7/9 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. CBS’ NCAA Basketball Championship: UNC vs. Marquette won at 8p with a 2.0/8 above Univision’s Eva Luna at 1.8/7. Also during 8p, ABC launched a new season of Shark Tank delivering a 1.2/4 that ranked fifth overall. The last part of the UNC vs. Marquette basketball game on CBS remained in the lead through 9p at 2.2/8 and Univision’s Triunfo del Amor was a close second at 2.1/7. CBS finished its clean sweep of the night with the second NCAA Basketball Championship match as Kentucky went up against Ohio State winning with a 3.8/13 and Univision was firmly planted in #2 with Triunfo del Amor at 1.9/6.
