Real Life. Drama.Several summer reality series set premiere dates on NBC:
- Season six of America’s Got Talent bows May 31 while the sophomore season of The Marriage Ref opens June 26.
- New game show It’s Worth What? hosted by Cedric has not set its premiere date or time.
- Fresh episodes of a handful of series will also continue during the summer including upcoming new singing competition series The Voice through June; as well as new game show Still Standing, new reality series Love in the Wild and new eps of revamped Law & Order: Los Angeles.
- The final season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent will premiere on NBC May 30.
- Friday Night Lights will open its final season on NBC April 15 and continue through into the summer after having aired on DirecTV.
The 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards set for June 19 at 8p on CBS based at the Las Vegas Hilton in Las Vegas. Associated Television International produces the broadcast for the third year in a row.
More original comedies in store for TV Land as the network approved Happily Divorced starring Fran Drescher and The Exes (wt). TV Land also renewed Retired at 35 for a second season. All three series received 10-episode orders. Happily Divorced will premiere June 15 while The Exes and Retired at 35 debut next winter. This Wednesday, TV Land airs the finales of Hot in Cleveland at 10p and Retired at 35 at 1030p. Additionally, TV Land upped the third season order of Hot in Cleveland from 22 episodes to 24.
With spring comes baseball and ESPN debuts its 22nd season of MLB coverage with MLB Opening Week airing March 31 through April 3. Furthermore, ESPN’s Baseball Tonight show opens April 3 with shows airing each Sunday at 1230p and 7p.
A seven-episode sophomore season of Hogs Gone Wild is back on Discovery Channel starting April 19 at 10p. The series chronicles the tough pest control companies as they try to catch aggressively mean wild hogs that cause health risks and property damage across the US. Film Garden produces the series for Discovery Channel.
RLTV selected Ken Kolb Direct (KKD) as its direct response agency to manage the network’s short-form direct response and long-form paid programming. RLTV’s Gig Barton who serves as VP/Advertising Sales and Sponsorships will work directly with KKD.

At this year’s MIPTV, former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will reveal his involvement in a new international TV series during a press conference on April 4 at the Riviera-side Majestic Hotel.

- Sibling Rivalry from Cream Productions with 13 half-hour episodes. Produced in hi-def for Canada’s W Network and featuring twins Dan and Nikki Hall.
- Untamed Gourmet with six half-hour eps produced in hi-def by the 291 Film Company for APTN.
- The investigative archaeology series Secrets of Christianity with six one-hour eps in hi-def produced by Associated Producers.
- Two one-hour hi-def factual specials produced by MDF Productions for History Channel in Canada: The Real Vampire Diaries and The Real Jack the Ripper.
- The one-hour hi-def documentary Uakari: Secrets of the English Monkey from Gryphon Productions for CBC.

- One-hour series 24 Hours to Kill with 3 eps from TV3 productions for TV3 (Eire).

- Action crime series Police Interceptors (season 4) with 16 one-hour eps produced by Raw Cut Television for Five in the UK.

ABC’s Private Practice casts Benjamin Bratt as a series regular. Bratt will first appear in the series’ season four finale then will continue during season five as a full-time cast member. Bratt’s TV credits include NBC’s Law & Order, A&E’s The Cleaners, NBC’s E-Ring and a recent appearance on ABC’s Modern Family.
Aaron Sorkin’s tentatively titled HBO drama pilot, More As the Story Develops is in talks with Jeff Daniels to star. Sorkin had spent time with former MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann as well as MSNBC’s Chris Matthews to better understand the cable news world. If this project goes to series, this project will be Daniels’ first venture into regular series television.
HBO is also prepping a new miniseries after optioning the book, Angler: The Cheney Vice Presidency by journalist Barton Gellman. The project would take a look at Dick Cheney’s political career from his involvement in the Nixon administration through his eight years as Vice President under President George W. Bush. Spring Creek Productions and Fair Catch Productions’ Paula Weinstein are set to produce with Jeffrey Levine. Frontline’s David Fanning and Michael Kirk and Fair Catch Productions’ David Kennedy will serve as executive producers. Rick Cleveland (The West Wing, Six Feet Under) will adapt the book. The production is from Spring Creek Productions in association with WGBH/Frontline and Fair Catch Productions.
Academy Award-winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes is working on Titanic, a new television miniseries project that was approved for production. Fellowes will write the epic drama consisting of two 90-minute episodes as well as four one-hour eps. The production, scheduled to air near the centenary of the tragic sinking of the Titanic was picked up by several broadcast partners globally including ABC in the US; Channel Seven in Australia; Canada’s Global; Ireland’s TV3; TVNZ in New Zealand; Portugal’s SIC; Sweden’s SVT; and ITV1 in the UK. The miniseries will be simulcast on Global and ABC followed by premieres in the other countries. ITV Studios is teaming with Deep Indigo Productions and Lookout Point in the UK, Sienna Films Inc in Canada and Hungary-based Mid Atlantic films to produce the drama which commences filming in Hungary this spring. Fellowes won his Oscar for Gosford Park and was also the creator and writer behind ITV1’s popular costume drama Downton Abbey.
Former rocker Tommy Lee involved in developing a new television project for Syfy billed as an investigative travel show titled Culture Shock With Tommy Lee. In this one-hour series produced with ITV Studios America, Lee will examine rituals, symbols and other mysteries surrounding secret societies.
Friday A18-49 Analysis: Univision matched its ratings from the previous week on Friday night at 1.7/6 among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. Univision’s Eva Luna was #1 at 8p with a 1.7/7 and FOX’s Kitchen Nightmares sizzled in a not-too-distant second place at 1.6/6. Univision held its top slot at 9p with Triunfo del Amor at 1.8/6 while CBS’ NCAA Championship game was #2 at 1.5/6. By a slim margin, CBS’ continued NCAA Championship coverage won at 10p with a 1.6/6 and the second hour of Univision’s Triunfo del Amor was a close second by posting a 1.6/5.

Maria Hale hired by Corus Entertainment Inc. as VP/Television, Head of Programming and Production beginning April 4. Maria will steer the strategic direction of Corus’ television programming including production, acquisitions and distribution across the company’s specialty and pay channels. She will report to Doug Murphy, EVP and President/Television, Corus Entertainment.

Marcus Peterzell takes on a new position at Ketchum as EVP/Entertainment for the company’s Sports & Entertainment unit.
