Hallmark Channel announced it has set September 13 as the premiere date for The Martha Stewart Show which will air at 10a during weekdays. Both the Hallmark Channel and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSLO) announced their new partnership this past January and that the currently syndicated one-hour show will have Hallmark Channel as its new homebase starting this fall. The Martha Stewart Show will continue to be shot in front of a live studio audience in New York City. Forming a block of how-to type shows in collaboration with MSLO, Hallmark Channel also introduces two other new series this September as well as reintroduces other series following The Martha Stewart Show:
Additionally, Martha Stewart has two 60m primetime specials in the works for Hallmark Channel centering on the holidays Halloween and Christmas, as well as two other primetime interview specials featuring prominent people in the entertainment, political and culture categories. Following this Sunday’s season finale of Breaking Bad on AMC at 10p, the network is airing a sneak preview of the first episode of new series Rubicon which officially premieres on August 1. Fans of ABC’s cancelled drama FlashForward are planning to stage protests at ABC’s offices in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit and Atlanta this Thursday. Fans will lie down on the ground in front of the various ABC offices for two minutes and 17 seconds mimicking the blackouts that happen in the plot of the show. Additionally, fans shipped 20,000 friendship bracelets to ABC Entertainment Chairman Steve McPherson. HGTV premieres a new series featuring a familiar face to the network as Color Splash: Miami opens June 13 at 11p. The weekly series, following designer David Bromstad as he returns to his hometown of Miami to transform ordinary rooms and outdoor spaces with color, will move to its regular time period of Saturdays at 1030p on June 19. Animal Planet granted a full series order for Fatal Attractions, giving the series 10 one-hour episodes slated to premiere in November. Previously in March, Animal Planet aired a three-episode limited series version of Fatal Attractions which became the network’s most-watched telecast during first quarter 2010. The expanded series will offer more stories of people who live with exotic animals and think they are not at risk to the dangers involved. Fatal Attractions is produced by Oxford Scientific Films for Animal Planet. Lifetime’s second season premiere of Drop Dead Diva on Sunday scored 3.1 million total viewers and more than 1.4 million A25-54 viewers as well as 1.1 million W25-54 viewers. Comparing Sunday’s premiere episode to the first season premiere, total viewers were up by +11%; A25-54 increased by +10%; and the W25-54 viewers boosted by +8%. Sunday’s seventh season debut of Bridezillas on WE tv at 9p attracted 368,000 W18-49 viewers and following at 10p the third season premiere of My Fair Wedding with David Tutera drew in 372,000 among W18-49. In an effort to stabilize its financial and business outlook and to support growth efforts, independent network Si TV announced yesterday it has tallied $24 million through equity and debt financing transactions. The equity portion comes from the network’s current investor group. This financial stability will further support the creation and acquisition of more programming for the network targeting American Latinos. Mindshare North America was named the planning and media implementation agency for 21st Century Insurance and Financial Services, Inc., part of the Farmers Insurance Group of Companies. Mindshare won the account without a review and work will be conducted out of Mindshare’s New York office beginning immediately. On a sidebar: American Bradley Cox’s documentary Who Killed Chea Vichea? about a major political assassination in Cambodia apparently struck a pretty strong cord because it has been banned in its home country. I know I don’t usually put this sort of stuff in front of you, but this is truly extraordinary and worth checking out. Beginning June 14, Cross-Mediaworks is launching IndieShop a new combination television and online shopping service. IndieShop will showcase independently produced and handcrafted fashions and gifts from around the world, direct from the designers. The emphasis will be on limited-run items such as handbags, scarves, jewelry, home decor, pet accessories and other specialty items. IndieShop will debut in more than 40 million TV broadcast and cable households in the US and throughout the world via www.IndieShop.com . The network will also offer additional lifestyle programming where the on-air hosts visit with the designers both in-studio and on location, giving viewers insight into the artists and their cultures. Discovery Communications welcomes new brand licensing strategies targeting men with the launch of Discovery Expedition and Discovery Adventures inspired by such Discovery Channel shows as Man vs. Wild with Bear Grylls and Deadliest Catch. Discovery Expedition will involve adventure and exploration affiliated with high-tech outdoor and lifestyle apparel, accessories and electronic equipment with the first licensees announced later this year. Discovery Adventures will give consumers a chance to explore the world through memorable travel experiences. Trips will be headed by expert guides to cultural, historical and wildlife locations.

Starz Entertainment picked up the US television rights to the next new season of Torchwood, the drama developed and produced by BBC Worldwide Productions. Starz and BBC One will premiere the 10-episode series during the summer of 2011 in the US and in the UK respectively. Two of the show’s stars, John Barrowman playing Captain Jack Harkness and Eve Myles playing Gwen Cooper will return for the new season. New cast members will be announced soon. Torchwood is a co-production between Starz, BBC Cymru Wales and BBC Worldwide. BBC Worldwide handles distribution outside the US. The previous three seasons of Torchwood aired on BBC America and the plot was set primarily in Cardiff, Wales. The new fourth season will give writer/producer Russell T. Davies and his writing team a chance to present a more global story about how extraterrestrial threats affect the humans in the series and how they deal with the danger. Film actress Julia Stiles will be part of Showtime’s Dexter cast for the series’ fifth season. Stiles will appear in 10 episodes portraying a mysterious young woman who begins a relationship with Dexter (Michael C. Hall) following the death of his wife. Production on the fifth season begins this month. Julie Benz also returns for the fifth season even though her character Rita was killed off in season four. USA Network’s upcoming series Covert Affairs added D.W. Moffett (Friday Night Lights) as a powerful senator and chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee and Lauren Holly (NCIS) will join as the senator’s refined wife, per EW. Katalyst Media, the production company founded by Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg signed a new overall two-year agreement with Warner Horizon Television, reports THR. The deal covers the two entities creating new unscripted formats. Katalyst has worked with Warner previously on developing the reality series True Beauty currently airing on ABC.

Former Oxygen Media Director/Primary Research executive, Debbie DiViesti-Sullivan joins the research consultancy THREE as VP. In her new capacity, Debbie will be in charge of developing and executing qualitative, quantitative and hybrid research studies for the company’s clients. Effective immediately, NBC Local Media appointed Michael Jack as President/GM of WNBC and Tom O’Brien as EVP/Nonstop Network. Both executives will report to John Wallace, President, NBC Local Media. Prior to this new role, Michael was President/GM of WRC in Washington, D.C. Michael will now head NBC Local Media’s New York-based local media assets including the TV station, the local website and digital channel. Tom was previously the GM at WNBC and will now lead the launch of new digital channels throughout NBC Local Media. Bill Goodwyn was elevated to the dual role of President/Global Distribution and CEO/Discovery Education at Discovery Communications. Bill has been President of Discovery Education since 2007 and now as CEO, he will manage the team in charge of spurring business in the K-12 marketplace. In the newly-created position as President/Global Distribution, Bill will further oversee distribution efforts for Discovery’s 100-plus global networks as well as continue to head all US distribution efforts. Bill has been with Discovery Communications since 1987. Suzanne La Forgia was hired by RMG Networks as EVP/Advertising Sales to head all media sales activities and sales operations for the company. Based at the RMG’s New York City offices, Suzanne will report directly to Garry McGuire, CEO. World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. tapped Eddie Hill as SVP/Marketing, reporting to Michelle D. Wilson, EVP/Marketing. Eddie’s duties will involve strategic direction for WWE’s branding and promotions, television tune-ins, pay-per-view events, network affiliate marketing, WWE Studios and market research. Eddie joins from American Express where he most recently held the position as VP/Head of US Advertising and Global Agency Management. Stephen Recht was named CFO at Delivery Agent, Inc. Stephen, who was formerly CFO of Glam Media will now spearhead Delivery Agent’s worldwide corporate financial strategy. Delivery Agent drives commerce for major media companies including ABC, CBS, NBC Universal, Twentieth Century Fox, A&E Television Networks and Discovery Communications. As of July 12, The Weather Channel Companies (TWCC) will add Jennifer Dangar as EVP/Distribution and Business Development. Jennifer, in her new role, will head TWCC’s distribution and business development efforts with cable, satellite and teleco operators and distributed content partners. Jennifer joins TWCC from Discovery Communications where she served as SVP/Domestic Distribution. Based at TWCC’s Atlanta headquarters, Jennifer will report to Michael J. Kelly, CEO. Additionally, Jennifer will work closely with Becky Powhatan Kelley who is the present head of distribution for TWCC as she transitions into retirement by August 1. Rick Wardell becomes VP/National Advertising Sales at The Inspiration Networks. In his new position, Rick will manage national ad sales for INSO The Inspiration Network and Halogen. Gary Rosenson was upped to SVP/GM of Playboy Entertainment Group’s Domestic TV division. Gary will now manage the unit and provide strategic oversight of all Playboy TV networks involving programming, distribution, marketing and new products encompassing VOD, hi-def, 3D and interactive TV.
