Good morning. It’s Tuesday, June 4, 2013, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.
The Big Ten made it official, announcing a deal with the New York Yankees and the New Era Pinstripe Bowl for an eight-year partnership that will include the conference’s commitment to play in the annual bowl game from 2014 to 2021. In addition, all New York Yankees regular season games, beginning in 2014, will feature a branding presence for the league in Yankee Stadium, via a fixed sign along the first-base line and home plate rotating signage.
The NFL Broadcast Boot Camp is back and will kick off this year from June 17 to 20. The lineup of participants will once again offer a slate of NFL stars that include will include AJ Hawk, Terry Holt and Michael Clayton skillsets to start a broadcasting career. Since 2007, 128 players participated in the program with 48 earning broadcasting gigs. Instructors will come from each of the NFL’s broadcast partners spanning CBS, ESPN, FOX, NBC, NFL Network, SiriusXM, Dial Global Radio and local radio and television.
Early local ratings for Sunday night’s Kings/Blackhawks playoff game delivered a 16.6 Nielsen score in Chicago, marking the highest local rating ever in the market for an NHL Conference Final game on NBC Sports Network. The matchup rose 51% from the Blackhawks’ 2010 Conference Final average on NBCSN in the market (11.0). In LA, the game delivered a 2.3, up 5% over the Kings’ 2012 Conference Final average on NBCSN in the market (2.2).
Friday’s international friendly pitting the Mexican National Team against Nigeria delivered 2.16 million Total Viewers 2+ and 1.22 million Adults 18-49 on UniMas, according to Nielsen. That game made UniMas a top 5 network with Adults 18-34 at the time.
Musician, author,and producer Carlton Douglas Ridenhour, aka Chuck D, of Public Enemy, is set to narrate the upcoming film on the storied life and career of Julius “Dr. J” Erving for NBA TV. The program, dubbed The Doctor, will run Monday, June 10, at 9p and will run between Games 2 and 3 of The Finals.
FOX Sports has put together a new NFL announcing team for the 2013 season, according to SI.com. The network is adding SportsNet New York broadcaster Kevin Burkhardt to its roster to call play by play with John Lynch serving as his analyst and Erin Andrews serving as a sideline reporter.
ESPN made its game selection for the June 30 edition of Sunday Night Baseball presented by Taco Bell, picking up the New York Yankees/Baltimore Orioles matchup at 8p. The telecast will feature Dan Shulman, along with analysts Orel Hershiser and John Kruk and reporter Buster Olney.
ESPN also announced that Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Love and former NBA head coach Doug Collins will join Mike & Mike as special co-hosts for the company’s coverage of the NBA Finals. Love will join Mike Golic and Ryan Ruocco, who will sub for Mike Greenberg, on Thursday, June 6 the morning of Game 1 of the Finals, while Doug Collins takes part the morning after Game 3, on Wednesday, June 12.

The UFC announced more than 50 MMA stars that will appear at the UFC Fan Expo, presented by FOX Sports 1, on Friday, July 5 and Saturday, July 6 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Roster Moves
Pac-12 Networks named Jonathan Leess as Senior Vice President of Production Planning and Operations for the organization. Leess will be responsible for the Sports Network’s production operations for over 750 remote and 200 studio television productions, overseeing long range planning, event budgets, logistics, vendor negotiations, staffing, as well as the full engineering, facilities, transmissions and systems departments.
