G4 said yesterday it will resume airing its series G4’s Proving Ground starring the late Ryan Dunn as co-host starting July 19.  Mr. Dunn died in a car crash last week and following that news, the network temporarily pulled the show off its lineup.  Before the July 19 episode of Proving Ground airs, G4 will air a special episode of Attack of the Show! as tribute to Mr. Dunn’s life and career. 

Revealing details of several US states from the air, Smithsonian Channel debuts the first of ten all-new episodes of original hi-def series Aerial America on July 10 at 8p.  The series details well-known and unusual landmarks from Civil War battlefields to giant skyscrapers from the air.  The ten episodes will fly over Maine on July 10 followed each week by Oregon, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Georgia, Washington, New Hampshire, Maryland/Delaware, North Carolina and culminating in the final episode over New York on September 11. Furthermore this weekend, Smithsonian Channel will offer a 24-hour Aerial America marathon on July 3 at 6a with encores of previously-aired episodes highlighting Hawaii, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, Arkansas, California, Connecticut and Virginia. 

Starting this week on Monday, Sportsman Channel launched the Season of the American Sportsman along with four new programming blocks including two in primetime. 

  • Primetime Mondays are dubbed Lock & Load Mondays presented by Daniel Defense beginning at 8p. 
  • A second primetime block happens later in the week with Thursday Traditions presented by The Sportsman’s Guide at 8p. 
  • The network is adding another programming block featuring shooting shows with Friday Reload from 4 to 6p presented by The Sportsman’s Guide.
  • And, on the weekends, The Landing Zone is on Saturday’s from 10a to noon presented by Loyal Dog Food.
  • Sportsman Channel’s other primetime blocks include: Woods and Waters Tuesdays presented by Repel; Big Game Wednesdays presented by Wildgame Innovations; Full Draw Fridays and Strike & Set Saturdays presented by Progressive; and Sunday Night Sportsman presented by BRP.
  • Additionally, Sportsman Channel is debuting 25 new original primetime series and bringing back many returning series throughout this third quarter. introduced its third quarter programming schedule beginning Monday, with the launch of ten new shows this week all produced in hi-def and bringing back new episodes of 73 other programs.  The ten new shows and premiere dates include:

This summer, NPR during its afternoon newsmagazine show All Things Considered presents Beginnings a collection of reports and features focused on childbirth.  Beginnings will air Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from this Monday through August.  The reports will include stories filed by correspondents from around the world and the US with Melissa Block and Michele Norris, co-hosts of All Things Considered, also contributing to the series. 

Sunday’s broadcast of BET Awards 11 attracted 7.7 million total viewers topping the 2010 telecast which drew in 7.3 million. 

Season four of Leverage opened on TNT Sunday at 9p with 3.4 million total viewers as well as 1.3 million among A18-49 and nearly 1.6 million with A25-54. 

~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

One-hour daily entertainment news/talk show, Access Hollywood Live from NBCUniversal Domestic Television Distribution reupped for a second season in broadcast syndication with NBC Owned Television Stations including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego and Hartford; and FOX Television Stations Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Detroit, Minneapolis/St. Paul and Memphis.  Additional new stations clearing the series include NBC-owned WRC/Washington, D.C. and WTVJ/Miami; along with KCRA/Sacramento; WTMJ/Milwaukee; WGBA/Green Bay; WNDU/South Bend.

Tribune Station Group has renewed Friends through 2017, taking the show for its third off-network cycle.  Tribune’s 15 stations involved in the cash-plus-barter deal are: WPIX/New York, KTLA/Los Angeles, WGN/Chicago, WPHL/Philadelphia, KDAF/Dallas, WDCW/Washington, DC, KIAH/Houston, KCPQ/Seattle, WSFL/Miami, KRCW/Portland, OR, KWGN-WXIN/Indianapolis, WTIC/Hartford, WXMI/Grand Rapids, WGNO/New Orleans and WPMT/Harrisburg.  Bright/Kauffman/Crane Production produced Friends in association with Warner Bros. Television which is also the distributor.  Friends originally ran for a decade on NBC from September 1994 until May 2004.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Long-time Survivor host, Jeff Probst inked a deal with CBS Television Distribution to develop a first-run talk show pegged to premiere in fall 2012.  The one-hour, daytime talk show will focus on topics involving current newsmakers to families and individual facing personal trials.  Probst has hosted all 22 installments of CBS’ reality show Survivor and also serves as the show’s executive producer.  His talk show experience includes sub stint on Live With Regis and Kelly, and he has sat in as a regular guest host for Larry King on CNN’s Larry King Live. 

Danny Pino (CBS’ Cold Case) and Kelli Giddish (NBC’s Chase) join the upcoming 13th season of NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as series regulars. Both will play detectives on the veteran crime drama. 

Before ABC’s daytime soap One Life to Live ends next January, Erin Torpey rejoins the cast though not as her original character but in a new role.  Torpey played the role of Jessica for more than 10 years and since 2003 the role has been portrayed by Bree Williamson. 

Audition Notice:  Syndicated game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, hosted by Meredith Vieira will launch its tenth season on September 5.  Prior to this new season, show producers are hosting contestant auditions in six cities.  Auditions will take place in Harrisburg, PA July 11; Charlotte, NC July 13; Chicago July 15; Washington, D.C. July 25; Tampa July 27; and Las Vegas July 29.  The auditions will include a timed multiple choice test and those who pass will be granted an interview with a show producer.  Two audition rounds will be held in each of the six cities from 7a to 11a and again from 430p to 530p. ~ RATINGS ~

Friday A18-49 Analysis:  Univision’s lineup topped the pack Friday night at 1.4/5 with the A18-49 demo, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.  Starting out, Univision’s Teresa won at 8p with a 1.3/5 and ABC’s encore Shark Tank episode nipped in second place at 1.0/4.  Triunfo del Amor at 9p gave Univision a second first place win of the night at 1.6/6 and NBC’s Dateline was next at 1.1/4.  Hour two of NBC’s Dateline made it to #1 during 10p with a 1.5/5 though a mere tenth of a rating point ahead of Univision’s La Rosa de Guadalupe at 1.4/5.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Telecommunications public relations and marketing company, Jaymie Scotto & Associates named Dean Perrine as Account Director.  Previously, Dean was a consultant with Blue Cross Blue Shield Association.

Fox Networks Group’s (FNG) streamlined its business and legal affairs business, putting the group under one umbrella.  The executive changes include:

  • Claudia Teran promoted to EVP/Business and Legal Affairs and Deputy General Counsel for FNG.  Claudia becomes the second in line legal executive for the unit in charge of all legal and business issues related to FNG’s cable and broadcast network distribution, digital new media strategy as well as corporate/business development.  Claudia will also continue working with the international division of FOX Sports Media Group consisting of FOX Soccer, FOX Deportes in the US, FOX Sports in Latin America and the global FOX Sports syndication sales business, Fox Hispanic Media and FUEL TV in the US and internationally.
  • Adam Reiss upped to SVP/Corporate Transactions and Distribution for FNG where he will head corporate transactions involving joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions and other key opportunities.  Adam reports to Claudia Teran.
  • Anna Tran Reyna elevated to SVP/Business and Legal Affairs, Digital Media for Fox Cable Networks (FCN) with legal supervision for the unit’s many digital assets and infrastructure, including network websites, Fox Digital Media, digital content deals, FNG’s Hulu and other digital distribution relationships among other digital extensions.  Anna will also continue to work with FOX Sports Media Group’s online properties. She reports to Claudia Teran.
  • Leanna Einbinder bumped to SVP/Business and Legal Affairs for Fox Cable Networks.  Leanna will resume her management of negotiations and developing rights agreements with the more than 120 professional and college sports teams and conferences associated with Fox.  Leanna continues to report to Karen Brodkin, SVP/Business and Legal Affairs for FCN. 

Bob English tapped by Definition 6 as Creative Director to head the marketing agency’s motion design group based in New York.  Bob will oversee branding, design and creative direction for clients in the post-production and motion design units.  He reports to managing partner, Rob Ortiz.

Rive Gauche hired Beth Belew as VP/Development and Acquisitions and Liz Levenson as Manager/Development and Acquisitions.  Beth will have responsibility over developing original programming for the US market, formats for international markets and soliciting co-production partnerships.  Beth was previously a producer on various series for ABC, Comedy Central, MTV, TLC, VH1, TBS and Discovery.  In her new role, Liz will manage the development, acquisition and marketing efforts for Rive Gauche where she will be involving in developing new formats, marketing materials and supervising current productions.  Before this appointment, Liz was Director/Development at CABLEready. 

John Cooke moves up to VP/Production Finance with Telepictures Productions.  John will continue to manage the company’s production financing and accounting, overseeing more than 15 production accountants.  John reports to Richard Inouye, SVP/Finance and Administration. 

Reveille added Monica Austin as SVP/Business and Brand Development and Rob Cohen as VP/Creative Affairs.  Monica most recently was Director/Brand Extensions and Integrated Marketing  Global Brands with ITV Global Entertainment while Rob was an executive at Mark Burnett Productions.  Both Monica and Rob report to Eden Gaha, President, Reveille.
