A new original series Toy Hunter delves into the world of buying and selling toys and collectibles when it premieres August 15 at 10p with back-to-back episodes on Travel Channel.  Following its premiere, Toy Hunter moves to its regular time slot of 9p Wednesdays starting August 22.  The weekly, half-hour program follows toy dealer Jordan Hembrough, owner of the New Jersey-based vintage and modern collectibles company Hollywood Heroes.  Hembrough travels the country looking for valuable collectibles, even looking through attics and garages.  During eight episodes, Hembrough will look for rare toys such as Jurassic Park Prototypes from 1994, a Care Bears Treat Heart Pig from 1982 and a #1 Barbie still in the box with brunette hair from 1959.  Toy Hunter is produced for Travel Channel by Sharp Entertainment.

National Geographic Channel (NGC) casts a light on gypsies in America with its newest series, American Gypsies premiering July 17 at 9p.  NGC follows the Johns family, one of Manhattan’s most prominent Romani or Gypsy families involved in the fortune-telling business.  The 10-episode series from executive producer Ralph Macchio and Stick Figure Productions, documents the Johns family’s struggle to uphold their standing in the community and to enlarge their psychic shop empire despite family strife and drama.

New African-American television network, ASPiRE from Magic Johnson Enterprises reveals its first original series titled ABFF Independent.  The show is a weekly two-hour program hosted by actor Omari Hardwick showcasing independent shorts, feature films and documentaries from emerging black artists.  ABFF Independent will premiere June 27, the network’s launch date, with stacked episodes beginning at 8p.  The series will then air on Mondays at 8p with encore airings on Mondays at 11p as well as Saturdays at 2p, 8p and 11p and the following Monday at 2p.  ABFF Independent is from LeftCenter Entertainment, Inc.

Later this summer, TV One welcomes new reality series R&B Divas to its lineup beginning August 20 at 10p.  The series chronicles the lives of five R&B stars  Faith Evans, Nicci Gilbert, Monifah Carter, Syleena Johnson and Keke Wyatt.  The one-hour eight-episode series was filmed primarily in Atlanta with some production happening in Washington, D.C., New York and New Orleans.  Thinkfactory Media produces the series for TV One.

Investigation Discovery (ID) brings back a new season of Who the (Bleep) Did I Marry? on July 11 with back-to-back episodes at 9p and 930p.  Directly following on the same night, ID’s new series Dates From Hell opens also with double episodes at 10p and 1030p.  Dates From Hell relates personal stories from men and women who began a date on a positive note that ended in a nightmare.  The two series together are being dubbed by the network as a night of Love Gone Wrong.  Who the (Bleep) Did I Marry? is from Sirens Media and Dates From Hell is produced by Sharp Entertainment.

With the summer heat full on, Discovery en Espanol debuts the six-episode series Frozen Planet beginning July 8 at 9p.  Narrated by Mexican mountain climber Carlos Carsolio, the new series will air its other five episodes Monday through Friday at 9p all in the same week.  Frozen Planet is a co-production of Discovery Channel and the BBC.

A second season of Lifeguard! from LMNO Productions was ordered by The Weather Channel Companies (TWCC).  The series focuses on the men and women who guard the 150-mile California coastline with its varied terrain.  TWCC approved 13 half-hour episodes slated to bow next January.

On Saturday night, HLN drew in 912,000 total viewers for the 39th Annual Daytime Emmy® Awards.  This was the first time the awards shows had aired on a cable network and last year the event was watched by 5.5 million viewers on CBS.   Despite the much lower number of viewers, the Daytime Emmy® Awards show gave HLN its most-watched regularly scheduled non-news broadcast in the network’s history.  Nielsen also reports, 2.0 million viewers watched the five airings of the Daytime Emmys® on HLN.

Lexington-based LM Communications Television, owned by Lynn Martin and the purchaser of WBKI, the CW affiliate in Louisville, made a service agreement with WDRB-TV in Louisville.  The terms of the deal has WDRB handling sales, promotion, accounting and HR services to assist LM Communications Television with its operation of WBKI.  Additionally, WDRB will offer technical assistance with master control operations and engineering for WBKI.
