ION Television will kick off the new weekly, one-hour original WWE series, WWE Main Event starting October 3 at 8p. The series will air each week in the 8p Wednesday time slot. The show will spotlight WWE Superstars and Divas featured on Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown.
A new original series Toy Hunter delves into the world of buying and selling toys and collectibles when it premieres August 15 at 10p with back-to-back episodes on Travel Channel. Following its premiere, Toy Hunter moves to its regular time slot of 9p Wednesdays starting August 22. The weekly, half-hour program follows toy dealer Jordan Hembrough, owner of the New Jersey-based vintage and modern collectibles company Hollywood Heroes. Hembrough travels the country looking for valuable collectibles, even looking through attics and garages. During eight episodes, Hembrough will look for rare toys such as Jurassic Park Prototypes from 1994, a Care Bears Treat Heart Pig from 1982 and a #1 Barbie still in the box with brunette hair from 1959. Toy Hunter is produced for Travel Channel by Sharp Entertainment.
National Geographic Channel (NGC) casts a light on gypsies in America with its newest series, American Gypsies premiering July 17 at 9p. NGC follows the Johns family, one of Manhattan’s most prominent Romani or Gypsy families involved in the fortune-telling business. The 10-episode series from executive producer Ralph Macchio and Stick Figure Productions, documents the Johns family’s struggle to uphold their standing in the community and to enlarge their psychic shop empire despite family strife and drama.
New African-American television network, ASPiRE from Magic Johnson Enterprises reveals its first original series titled ABFF Independent. The show is a weekly two-hour program hosted by actor Omari Hardwick showcasing independent shorts, feature films and documentaries from emerging black artists. ABFF Independent will premiere June 27, the network’s launch date, with stacked episodes beginning at 8p. The series will then air on Mondays at 8p with encore airings on Mondays at 11p as well as Saturdays at 2p, 8p and 11p and the following Monday at 2p. ABFF Independent is from LeftCenter Entertainment, Inc.
Later this summer, TV One welcomes new reality series R&B Divas to its lineup beginning August 20 at 10p. The series chronicles the lives of five R&B stars Faith Evans, Nicci Gilbert, Monifah Carter, Syleena Johnson and Keke Wyatt. The one-hour eight-episode series was filmed primarily in Atlanta with some production happening in Washington, D.C., New York and New Orleans. Thinkfactory Media produces the series for TV One.
Investigation Discovery (ID) brings back a new season of Who the (Bleep) Did I Marry? on July 11 with back-to-back episodes at 9p and 930p. Directly following on the same night, ID’s new series Dates From Hell opens also with double episodes at 10p and 1030p. Dates From Hell relates personal stories from men and women who began a date on a positive note that ended in a nightmare. The two series together are being dubbed by the network as a night of Love Gone Wrong. Who the (Bleep) Did I Marry? is from Sirens Media and Dates From Hell is produced by Sharp Entertainment.
With the summer heat full on, Discovery en Espanol debuts the six-episode series Frozen Planet beginning July 8 at 9p. Narrated by Mexican mountain climber Carlos Carsolio, the new series will air its other five episodes Monday through Friday at 9p all in the same week. Frozen Planet is a co-production of Discovery Channel and the BBC.
A second season of Lifeguard! from LMNO Productions was ordered by The Weather Channel Companies (TWCC). The series focuses on the men and women who guard the 150-mile California coastline with its varied terrain. TWCC approved 13 half-hour episodes slated to bow next January.
Sunday’s series premiere of The Newsroom on HBO tallied a gross audience of 2.7 million viewers across two plays, with 2.1 million for the 10p premiere episode and another 513,000 for the 1115p encore.
On Saturday night, HLN drew in 912,000 total viewers for the 39th Annual Daytime Emmy® Awards. This was the first time the awards shows had aired on a cable network and last year the event was watched by 5.5 million viewers on CBS. Despite the much lower number of viewers, the Daytime Emmy® Awards show gave HLN its most-watched regularly scheduled non-news broadcast in the network’s history. Nielsen also reports, 2.0 million viewers watched the five airings of the Daytime Emmys® on HLN.
Lexington-based LM Communications Television, owned by Lynn Martin and the purchaser of WBKI, the CW affiliate in Louisville, made a service agreement with WDRB-TV in Louisville. The terms of the deal has WDRB handling sales, promotion, accounting and HR services to assist LM Communications Television with its operation of WBKI. Additionally, WDRB will offer technical assistance with master control operations and engineering for WBKI.

Cable network, RLTV targeting viewers age 50+, will be launched by Mediacom in several markets.
Original primetime animated series, Crash Canyon has been licensed in the US to MAV TV, a national cable broadcaster reaching 45 million homes through its affiliate deals with Comcast, Time Warner Cable, DISH Network, Cablevision, Charter, Verizon FiOS, GCI, the NCTC and NRTC. MAV TV will roll out Crash Canyon in August as part of the network’s primetime comedy lineup. Crash Canyon is produced by Breakthrough Entertainment in association with Shaw Rocket Fund and TELETOON Canada and developed by Joel Cohen, co-EP on The Simpsons.
Former E.R. star Maura Tierney is joining CBS’ The Good Wife in a recurring role. Tierney will play a self-made millionaire and power player in Chicago Democratic politics. Also joining the series is British actor Marc Warren (Band of Brothers) portraying Kalinda’s (Archie Panjabi) ex-husband. Tierney and Warren will both make their debuts on the series during the fourth season opener in September.
Sundance Channel is co-producing the two-part mini-series Restless set to bow in December 2012. Written by British novelist William Boyd who authored the book and the script, the mini-series depicts the story of a daughter who discovers her mother had been recruited as a spy during World War II. Restless will be produced by Hilary Bevan Jones (State of Play, The Girl in the Cafe) under her banner Endor Productions and directed by Edward Hall. The mini-series stars Hayley Atwell (Any Human Heart), Rufus Sewell (Pillars of the Earth), Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey) and Charlotte Rampling (Melancholia). Filming will begin this summer in South Africa and the UK.
Former host of TLC’s Trading Spaces, Paige Davis was selected as co-host for Hallmark Channel’s new Original Lifestyle series, Home & Family. Davis will serve as co-host along with journalist Mark Steines when Home & Family debuts weekdays starting October 1. Home & Family will be a part of Hallmark Channel’s Lifestyle block of programming and will consist of 220 original two-hour shows airing over 44 weeks. Home & Family is produced by Woody Fraser Productions (Good Morning America, Nightline, The Dick Cavett Show). Davis has also starred on Broadway in the revival of Boeing Boeing and prior to that traveled the US performing in Sweet Charity among other stage roles. She currently hosts Home Made Simple on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
Outside Television forged a long-term programming partnership with Red Bull Media House involving original series, films and future productions featuring Red Bull athletes and the two entities’ compatible television, print, online, mobile and social media efforts. This deal additionally allows Outside Television air the adventure sports series Pushing Boundaries as well as a selection of Red Bull Media House films to air as part of the Outside Film Festival primetime block debuting soon. Furthermore, Red Bull Media House will provide Outside Television with exclusive content for its morning show Outside Today and offer Red Bull athletes for in-studio interviews. Red Bull has been creating athlete profiles, lifestyle and action sports programming for close to 25 years and has plans to develop additional original series and feature content with Outside Television in the near future.
AMC/Sundance Channel Global announced Sundance Channel has launched on the DTH platform n in Poland. Sundance Channel will be available to n’s subscribers in hi-def as part of the Film Hits package.

Friday A18-49 Analysis: Univision had the winning lineup Friday posting a 1.5/6 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, Univision’s Un Refugio para el Amor won with a 1.3/5 and ABC’s Shark Tank repeat was next at 1.1/4. Univision was firmly in first place during 9p with Abismo de Pasion at 1.5/5 and ABC’s 20/20 was #2 at 1.2/4. Univision polished off the final win of the night at 10p with La Que No Podia Amar at 1.8/6 and NBC moved into second place with Dateline at 1.4/5.

Beginning in August, Nicole Clemens will join FX as SVP/Series Development coming from ICM Partners where she was partner and head of the motion picture literary department.
