~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

HBO renewed its vampire drama True Blood for a fourth season comprised of 12 episodes. Production on the fourth season begins early next year in Los Angeles with a planned premiere scheduled for summer 2011. True Blood is created by Alan Ball and based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris.

ABC is again moving the mystery series Happy Town out of the Wednesday 10p time period to make way for a Jimmy Kimmel special about the “Twilight” movies and a Castle encore. The remaining two episodes of Happy Town will air on Saturday nights in July.

Ratings in the US for the 2010 FIFA World Cup are soaring at a 16-year high. To date, through the first 14 rounds of the World Cup, ESPN and ABC generated an average audience of 3.35 million viewers. Univision has averaged 2.24 million viewers through its first 17 broadcasts.

MTV brings back a third season of Silent Library starting June 28 at 5p with 20 episodes where members of the New York Giants take on more outrageous challenges. Celebrities making appearances during the new season include musical stars Honor Society, Aubrey O’Day, Stereo Skyline as well as “Octomom” Nadya Suleman and the cast of MTV’s new scripted series The Hard Times of RJ Berger. The series is executive produced by Adam Dolgins and Frank Gregory of Fractured Hip Productions.

Comedy Central showcases up-and-coming talent with the new series Russell Simmons Presents Stand-Up at The El Rey starting July 11 at 11p.

Logo opens RuPaul’s Drag U on July 19 at 9p where RuPaul works with a group of three women each episode to help them find their drag queen potential. Each episode ends with a musical performance in front of the ladies’ family, friends and a judges’ panel. This season will feature celebrities such as Debi Mazar, Chaka Khan, Kelly Osbourne while TV celebrities Dawn Wells, Charlene Tilton and Erin Murphy enroll as students for the series’ season finale. RuPaul’s Drag U is produced by World of Wonder Productions.

Planet Green announced the line-up for the second season of its documentary film series Reel Impact airing each Saturday at 10p starting August 28 inside the network’s Verge primetime block. The schedule includes the world television premiere of No Impact Man on August 28 and the premiere of the 2009 Academy Award Winner for Best Documentary, The Cove on September 4. Other well-known documentary films airing within the Reel Impact series includes Supersize Me on October 2 and Houston We Have A Problem on October 9. Reel Impact airs through December 18. Prior to the debut of Reel Impact, Planet Green airs two other documentaries focused on the planet’s waters called One Water and Sharkwater as part of the network’s month-long Blue August water advocacy campaign.

NASCAR Media Group and Turner Sports will present its first 3D race on July 3 with the Coke Zero 400 starting at 730p. Taking place from Daytona International Speedway, the race can be viewed through DirecTV’s stereoscopic, linear N3D network where consumers with new 3D-capable sets and accessory glasses, on TNT using the network’s Wide Open format and TNT RaceBuddy via NASCAR.com.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

FearNet, the subscription VOD service will launch as a linear channel on October 1. The multi-platform channel, owned in collaboration by Lionsgate, Sony Pictures Television and Comcast will become a mostly digital-based movie channel. Talks are currently happening with several operator affiliates including the channel’s parent company, Comcast as well as Cox Communications, Verizon FiOS TV, AT&T U-Verse among others.

Sony Pictures Television announced further clearances in several top 10 markets for the syndicated talk show The Dr. Oz Show, starting in fall 2011. The newest three-year deals include renewals on Belo’s WFAA/Dallas and KTVK/Phoenix, Cox’s KTVU/San Francisco, Fox’s WFXT/Boston and Post-Newsweek’s KPRC/Houston. In addition, Hearst’s WTAE/Pittsburgh will now air the show, taking it away from Cox’s WPXI in that market. On most of these stations, Dr. Oz will assume the lead-in slot for local news. Other stations that have cleared Dr. Oz starting last week are Fox’s WNYW/New York, WFLD/Chicago, WTXF/Philadelphia and WTTG/Washington, D.C.; Gannett’s WAGA/Atlanta; ABC’s KABC/Los Angeles; and Scripps’ WXYZ/Detroit and WEWS/Cleveland.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Psychic Court, the new court show with a paranormal twist, signed Judge Larry Seidlin to preside over the proceedings where mediums, astrologists, tarot card readers, remote viewers and faith-based sensitives are enlisted to help him decide cases. The hi-def produced series is distributed by Mighty Oak Entertainment. Judge Seidlin became well-known after presiding over the posthumous Anna Nicole Smith custody hearing.

Alphas, the Syfy action/adventure pilot is shooting in Toronto, reports THR. Produced by BermanBraun Television, the 90-minute pilot will be filmed at the Cinespace Film Studios location.

Casting Call: Audition dates are set for the 10th anniversary of FOX’s American Idol beginning July 17 in Nashville. Other dates and cities for American Idol auditions are July 21 in Milwaukee; July 26 in New Orleans; August 3 in East Rutherford, NJ; August 11 in Austin; and August 19 in San Francisco. In addition, American Idol is expanding the age range of participants to 15 to 28 years old for men and women eligible to work in the US. Friday A18-49 Analysis: UNIV did best with the A18-49 demo Friday night with a 1.5/6, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, UNIV won with Hasta que el Dinero Nos Separe at 1.7/7 while NBC’s Friday Night Lights made a pass for second place with 1.0/4. UNIV remained in the lead through 9p with Soy Tu Duena at 1.9/7 and CBS’ Flashpoint came next at 1.4/5. During 10p, the two Friday night news magazine shows went head-to-head though NBC’s Dateline was #1 at 1.5/5 followed closely by ABC’s 20/20 at 1.3/4.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Mike Skagerlind was appointed SVP/GM of iVillage, joining from Barnes & Noble.com where he was VP/Head of Digital media and GM, Sparknotes.com. Mike, who begins his new job at iVillage in July, will oversee the website’s strategy, site development, content as well as product development and technology. Mike will report to Jodi Kahn, EVP, iVillage.

MTV bumped Andrew Portnoy to SVP/Production, East Coast and Kimberly Rach was added as SVP/Production, West Coast. Andrew will manage pilot and series production emanating from the East Coast based in New York City. Kimberly, based in Santa Monica, will supervise pilot and series production for the West Coast. She most recently worked for Walden Media as VP/Physical Production. Andrew and Kimberly both report to Chris Linn, EVP/MTV Production.

Tribune Broadcasting’s PIX 11, The CW affiliate in New York promoted Chris Zerafa to VP/Technology, effective immediately. Chris will manage all technology, engineering and operations for the station.

Amy Berlin joins the out-of-home company Titan as EVP/General Counsel. Amy will be involved with Titan’s new business development unit in addition to spearheading the company’s legal affairs. Amy will further work with Titan’s Transit Authority partners. Based in the company’s New York office, Amy succeeds in her new position following Scott Goldsmith who was upped to President/Transit earlier this year.

Ludorum hired Megan Buecher as Director/Licensing in North America where she will oversee licensing in the US and Canada for the media company’s franchise Chuggington based from Ludorum’s New York office. Most recently, Megan worked for United Media.

Greg Siefkin takes on a new position at Technicolor as VP/DVD and Digital Sales for the West Coast. Greg was previously VP/Worldwide Sales at Sample Digital.
