Officially as of June 30, 2011, AMC Networks Inc. completed its spin-off from Cablevision Systems Corporation resulting in AMC Networks as a standalone, public company.  AMC Networks is the new name for the entity formerly known as Rainbow Media Holdings.  Under its umbrella, AMC Networks houses the entertainment brands AMC, IFC, Sundance Channel and WE tv.  In addition, AMC Networks operates IFC Films, the US distributor of independent films; AMC/Sundance Channel Global, an international programming company; and AMC Networks Broadcasting & Technology, a full-service network programming feed and distribution business.  For AMC Networks, Josh Sapan serves as President/CEO and Charles Dolan is the Executive Chairman while also continuing in his present position as Chairman of Cablevision. 

A new six-episode series, Bruce Lee Lives! premieres on FUEL TV, part of Fox Sports Media Group, July 13 at 10p.  The half-hour series delves into the life of martial artist/film star Bruce Lee by using stories from filmmakers, musicians and athletes he influenced such as Ryan Phillippe, Carlos Santana, Jesse Ventura, Chuck Liddell, Criss Angel, Omar Epps and many others.  Pangolin Pictures produces the series.

Season four premiere of TNT’s Leverage on June 26 delivered 4.6 million total viewers; 2.1 million with A25-54; and 1.8 million among A18-49.  These numbers were across-the-board increases compared to last summer’s third season premiere of Leverage at +19%; +4%; and +5% respectively.

On June 30, an auction was held in Seattle for the sale of North Pacific International Television’s KFFV-TV, an independent station serving the Seattle market.  Reston-based OTA Broadcasting, LLC won the bid at $5.05 million.  An application is being filed with the FCC for the transfer of KFFV-TV to OTA Broadcasting from North Pacific International Television.

Independent television distributor, ALL3MEDIA International announced a slew of international broadcasters picked up the factual entertainment series Fake or Fortune investigating amazing stories from the art world produced by BBC.  The series, with four one-hour episodes, was picked up by Germany’s RTL; Australia’s ABC; Norway’s NRK; Canada’s TVO; New Zealand’s Sky New Zealand; Ananey Communications in Israel and Palestine; SVT in Sweden; and in Asia and India via BBC Knowledge after a pan territory agreement forged with BBC Worldwide.  Fake or Fortune also premieres this summer on BBC1. 

Casting changes are in store for FOX’s Glee series for the upcoming third season.  Chord Overstreet will not continue as a series regular though he could sporadically appear on the show during the third season.  The show is additionally advancing Darren Criss and Harry Shum Jr. to full-time cast members. 

NBC’s upcoming midseason comedy Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea, the semi-autobiographical series inspired by Chelsea Handler’s memoir, cut three cast members due to creative issues.  Those leaving the show are Natalie Morales, Angel Laketa Moore and Jo Koy.  Producers of the sitcom are retooling the characters the three actors played.  Laura Prepon is remaining on the show, playing the title lead. 

Richard T. Jones (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) cast in CBS’ Hawaii Five-O, cites TV Guide Magazine.  Jones will play the recurring role of the Lt. Governor who will keep a tighter rein on McGarrett and the Five-O team.

WGN America hired Mike Perciaccante as Director/Research where he will manage all program and sales research for the cable network.  Prior to this appointment, Mike was Director/Research and Marketing for Univision’s stations in New York, WXTV and WFUT+.  Based in New York for WGN America, Mike reports to Josh Richman, VP/Marketing.  

Mike Green named Honorary Treasurer of Britain’s Royal Television Society.  In his new position, Mike follows Grant Murray who left the Royal Television Society after taking a new appointment with Johnson Press plc as CFO.  Previously, Mike was the Deputy Group Finance Director at ITV.
