A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM UNIVISION
Numero Uno is the New #1.
Univision swept ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX. For the first time ever, the Network’s no-repeat lineup of primetime novelas, variety and sports made Univision America’s New #1 Network among both adults 18-34 and 18-49, including men and women. In any language.
Thank you, viewers, for making history with us.

Stars and producers of CBS hit Under the Dome were on hand at Comic-Con, ready with teasers for the rest of season one. Mostly, they just assured they won’t keep us hanging. “We promise all of these secrets coming up will be revealed this season,” said showrunner Neal Baer. Well, not every secret. “The season finale ends with a hell of a cliffhanger,” Exec Producer Brian K. Vaughan told the crowd. “So if we’re not lucky enough to come back next season, you’re screwed!”
Now that the “Kate Wait” is over, the nets are covering the birth of the royal heir from every possible angle. Tonight Barbara Walters weighs in in prime time as anchor of a special 10p edition of 20/20 that promises the “take you inside the world” of the future king, offering details on the tot’s privileges and future playmates.
CNN is giving its audience a taste of Crossfire before the returning (1982-2005) political debate program premieres in the fall. The Time Warner news channel announced last month that hosts Newt Gingrich and S.E. Cupp would rep the right, while Stephanie Cutter and Van Jones will offer left side commentary; hosts Gingrich, Jones and Cutter have already made appearances on other CNN shows in advance of the relaunch’s debut.
How has adding guys to the mix affected the competition on The CW‘s America’s Next Top Model? Kelly Cutrone says the women have a big advantage. “They’re more strategic,” explains the reality show judge. “They’d flirt with the guys, totally trying to trip them up – and the guys would fall for it. The guys just are easier,” adds Cutrone. “They show up, are like, ‘Tell me what you want me to do,’ and leave on a skateboard.” America’s Next Top Model/Guys and Girls, the show’s 20th cycle, premieres Friday, August 2 at 8p.
Rita Moreno will be honored for career and humanitarian accomplishments at the 2014 SAG Awards. “She is an extraordinarily versatile, talented and generous actor whose career is notable for courageous choices,” said SAG-AFTRA Co-President Ken Howard of the 81-year-old star. Awards will be broadcast live on TNT and TBS on Saturday, January 18.
Dead man talking: The shocking death of an original character – spoiler alert, True Blood fans who haven’t seen Sunday’s ep – wasn’t easy for the actor who plays the HBO drama’s doomed Terry. Todd Lowe tells the Hollywood Reporter he “went though a bit of a depression” after hearing the news. “I didn’t get any of the quirky, funny Terry moments this year that I always look forward to, so it took its toll on me…[but] I think they did a beautiful job writing me out.”
With nine Emmy noms in its pocket, Netflix‘s House of Cards is now eligible for 2014 Writers Guild of America honors, too, thanks to the group’s new guidelines making shows produced for new media eligible. “These changes in eligibility and submission guidelines reflect the evolution of distribution models in the entertainment industry,” said WGA West president Christopher Keyser and WGA East President Michael Winslip. That’s good news for All My Children and One Life to Live, too – the long-running soaps were canceled by ABC in 2011 and 2012, but live online now. The WGA also announced a new category, Quiz and Audience Participation, for writers in those genres.
NimbleTV is providing refunds to customers for its outage after Dish TV cut the startup off on July 12. The service was helping customers set up subscriptions with Dish, and providing technology that allowed them to get Dish’s signal over the Web, but had no formal relationship with the satellite network. NimbleTV’s CEO Anand Subramanian told AllThingsD‘s Peter Kafka he’s confident his company will work it out, adding, “NimbleTV is buit on a simple premise: that people who pay for their TV service should have the right to watch when and how they want to.”
Sundance Channel is airing marathons of seven-part miniseries Top of the Lake on Sunday, July 28 at 1p, and two-parter Restless on Wednesday, July 31 at 8p. The pair raked in ten prime time Emmy noms.
Atlantis will now surface on U.S. shores in fall 2013, as well as the UK. BBC America is co-producing the series, to air in its Supernatural Saturday block. “An incredible creative team and exciting cast are in place to deliver ambitious adventures this fall,” promises BBC America senior vp programming Richard De Croce. “Drawing on Greek myths for inspiration, we aim to tell classis, action adventure stories in unexpected and exciting ways.”
ABC Family is not renewing Bunheads, the comedy/drama created by Gilmore Girls‘ Amy Sherman-Palladino. The season one finale aired on February 25. “We took extra time to try and find ways to bring the series back,” said a statement from the net, “but in the end it simply wasn’t possible.”
Mr. Selfridge is coming back. PBS has renewed the period drama starring Jeremy Pivens for a second season for Masterpiece Classic. Piven plays the founder of UK’s Selfridge’s department story.
Daily courtroom series Justice For All With Judge Cristina Perez has been renewed for two more seasons, announced Entertainment Studios. The show has been cleared in 85% of television markets.
Beyond Distribution secured the international rights to A Stranger in My Home, from Canadian producer CMJ. The hour-long crime series tells true stories of trusting victims who paid a big price for letting the wrong people in their house.
Kiddie cabler Sprout is growing, with the acquisition of three new series: UK’s Sarah and the Duck premieres Monday, August 19; animated French series Zou bows on Monday, September 2 and Stella and Sam, based on books by Canadian author Marie-Louise Gay, debuts on the net on Friday, November 1.
The CW is developing a spin-off of Supernatural, announced exec producer Bob Singer at Comic-Con. The new series would be based on a character to be introduced on Supernatural’s ninth season, which begins Tuesday, October 15. It’s a strategy the net used for Vampire Diaries extension The Originals, making its bow Tuesday, October 15 at 8p.
Syfy is adapting post-apocalyptic drama 12 Monkeys as a possible 90-minute pilot for a series. “We have a great pilot, we’re now fleshing out what the rest of the series would be,” Syfy president of original programming Mark Stern told the Hollywood Reporter. Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt starred in 1995’s big screen version, in which a deadly virus forces Earth’s inhabitants to live underground.
National Geographic Channels International‘s new series COSMOS: A SPACETIME ODYSSEY will premiere early next year on National Geographic Channel in 170 countries and 48 languages, as well as launch on FOX and the Nat Geo Channel in the US. Executive Producer Seth MacFarlane has big plans for the science show, which will include animated sequences and guest voices from MacFarlane, among others. Says the force behind Family Guy, “I want to make this so entertaining, and so flashy, and so exciting that people who have no interest in science will watch just because it’s a spectacle.”
Hot in…Vladivostok? A Russian version of TV Land‘s Hot in Cleveland debuts on the country’s Channel One on Monday, July 29. Endemol Worldwide has sold the sitcom to more than 200 territories.
Shortly after the debut on Sunday, September 29 of Masters of Sex, the Showtime drama will premiere on UK’s Channel 4. The series is based on the lives of pioneering sex researchers Dr. William Masters and Virginia Johnson
Season four of AMC zombie drama The Walking Dead premieres internationally the week of October 13 in Fox International Channel markets.
Europe’s channel RAI Yoyo has picked up seasons five and six of Italy’s animated children’s series, Peppa, from distributor eOne. New episodes of the edutainment show for preschoolers will also air in English, to help develop language skills.

UP scored its best-ever series premiere rating with the July 17 10p debut of Bulloch Family Ranch. The reality series, about a ranch that serves as home to troubled teens, nabbed a .46 total household rating, per Nielsen. The uplifting series represents “an alternative to most other scripted drama and reality,” vice chairman, UP Brad Siegel tells Cynopsis.

No hard feelings here.
