Singer/actress and judge on FOX’s The X Factor, Demi Lovato was selected to host Teen Choice 2012 airing live July 22 at 8p on FOX. A slew of celebrities are set to participate including Cat Deeley, Troian Bellisario, Zooey Deschanel, Ellen DeGeneres, Selena Gomez, Gordon Ramsay and Taylor Swift among many others.
Season three of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire with 12 episodes is scheduled to premiere September 16 at 9p. HBO has also set a return date for the third season of Treme on September 23 at 10p with 10 episodes.
VH1 and DoSomething.org released the list of celebrities who have been nominated for doing good and being good role models to others in the past year. The 2012 Do Something Awards nominees include Kristen Bell, Ben Affleck, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Nicole Richie, Neil Patrick Harris, Channing Tatum and Emma Stone among others. The awards show will tape on August 19 at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica and is slated to air on VH1 August 21 at 9p. Hosts for the event include the co-stars from FOX’s comedy New Girl, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield and Lamorne Morris. Later this summer, SOAPnet will offer viewers a two-week block of original programming from the Live Well Network weeknights at 11p beginning July 30 through August 10. Each night, SOAPnet will present different episodes from the lifestyle network such as Live Big with Ali Vincent, My Family Recipe Rocks!, Mirror/Mirror and We Owe What? Live Well Network is available in more than 60% of the US.
Further news about Syfy’s renewal of its unscripted series Total Blackout comes as the network handed 16 new episodes to the new season and will debut eight episodes starting November 13 at 9p. Currently in its first season, Total Blackout, hosted by Jaleel White, has averaged 1.2 million total viewers and 648,000 with A18-49. FremantleMedia North America produces the series.
Beginning tomorrow, Once TV Mexico, owned and operated by Instituto Politecnico Nacional is debuting a new drama/comedy series titled Pacientes centering on five patients involved in a support group led by a neurotic psychoanalyst. The program will air beginning this Wednesday at midnight for 26 weeks.
Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will remember the life and career of Academy Award winning actor Ernest Borgnine with a 24-hour run of his films on July 26. Mr. Borgnine passed away Sunday at the age of 95 and he regularly appeared on TCM as part of the TCM Classic Film Festival among other events. TCM’s film tribute will begin at 6a with The Catered Affair (1956) and throughout the day will highlight several of Mr. Borgnine’s films including his Oscar-winning performance in Marty (1955) at 9p and will end with Private Screenings: Ernest Borgnine (2009) at 5a. In addition on July 15, Antenna TV will run 21 hours of McHale’s Navy starting at 7a. Antenna TV’s tribute to Mr. Borgnine will include 42 episodes of the TV show that originally ran on ABC from 1962 to 1966.

Asian lifestyle and pop culture network Mnet has launched via Comcast in the Washington, D.C. market and in the Greater Philadelphia region (Greater Philadelphia, New Jersey and northern Delaware). The CW has added two actors to two of its programs as Liane Balaban will play Sam Winchester’s (Jared Padalecki) new love interest on Supernatural. This is a recurring role for Balaban during Supernatural’s eighth season. Former 7th Heaven star Barry Watson is joining Gossip Girl in its sixth and final season as a romantic interest for Blake Lively’s character. Details on Watson’s character have not been released except that his name is Steven Spence and he’s a young entrepreneur.
New Zealand actress Rose McIver (The Lovely Bones) was tapped to play the title role in MTV’s drama pilot, Cassandra French’s Finishing School for Boys. McIver joins previously cast Steve Talley, Abby Pivaronas and Lyndon Smith. The pilot project is based on Eric Garcia’s book about recent college grad, Cassie French, an over-achieving young lawyer who finds all men not mature enough to date her. When her latest chance at love (Talley) accidentally knocks himself unconscious, Cassie decides to lock him in her basement to train him to become the perfect gentleman.
Casting Call: Oxygen Media, Shine America along with supermodel Naomi Campbell are conducting a search for the new reality competition series, The Face set to premiere on Oxygen in 2013. The show is seeking aspiring models who want the chance to be a spokesperson for a nationally recognized brand. Casting directors invite women who are at least 18 years old to audition. The Face NY Casting Call will take place July 21 from 10a to 4p at Flatotel and The Face LA Casting Call is July 28 at W Hollywood from 10a to 4p. Friday A18-49 Analysis: Univision led Friday with a clean sweep among the A18-49 viewers at 1.4/5, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, Univision’s Un Refugio para el Am was #1 at 1.3/5 with ABC’s Shark Tank rerun next at 1.1/5. Univision remained in the lead through 9p with Abismo de Pasion at 1.5/5 followed again by ABC’s first of two 20/20 rebroadcasts at 1.2/4. Univision polished off the final win of the night by delivering a 1.5/5 for La Que No Podia Amar during 10p while ABC’s 20/20 repeat and NBC’s Dateline tied for #2 at 1.3/4 apiece.

Discovery has promoted Dorian Winship to SVP/Production Management over all of Discovery’s US Networks. Dorian heads a team that supports all programming and business goals in addition to relationships with Discovery’s external production partners. Dorian is based in Los Angeles and reports to Lee Bartlett, EVP/Global Production Management, Business and Legal Affairs.
Production company Pilgrim Studios elevated Anna Fudacz to VP/Business Affairs and Michael Purleski to VP/Legal Affairs. Anna heads all of Pilgrim’s negotiations related to network and development deals for unscripted and scripted programming. Michael manages corporate, production, litigation, licensing, distribution and employment activities for Pilgrim. Both Anna and Michael report to Gretchen Stockdale, EVP/General Counsel.
Tom Needham advances to VP/Digital Marketing with The Inspiration Networks. In his new role, Tom will be in charge of all marketing efforts encompassing the networks’ digital assets and Social, SEM and SEO initiatives as well as emerging media platforms and partnerships. Tom further heads all digital marketing activities and is the primary strategist for INSP, Halogen TV and La Familia Cosmovision.
Showtime Networks Inc. upped Susan Frank and Emily Gould to co-head the network’s Program Marketing and Advertising departments. Susan and Emily will become VPs/Program Marketing and Advertising to oversee the strategic development of multi-platform marketing programs as well as to spearhead all marketing strategy and consumer advertising for Showtime’s entertainment programming with an emphasis on original series and specials among other duties. Susan and Emily report to Donald Buckley, EVP/Program Marketing, Media, Promotions and Digital Services, Showtime Networks Inc.
