Coming full circle, Kevin Reilly finds himself in the position of President/Entertainment again – this time at News Corp’s FOX Broadcasting Company. Now he will report to his former FX colleague Peter Liguori, who was simultaneously promoted from President/Entertainment to Chairman/Entertainment at FOX. While at FX, the pair developed such critically-acclaimed shows as The Shield and Nip/Tuck and thus elevated the status of the cable network.

2007-2008 Upfront Update: Starcom USA has finalized its cable deals with NBC Universal, including an agreement with Bravo based on minute-by-minute commercial data. This agreement is the first to use the new currency for NBC U. The Starcom pact involves all of NBC U’s cable properties as well as Universal HD, and also encompasses content integration and digital components along with traditional commercial time.
TNT has picked up the cable rights to the theatrical film 300, distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution. The film will have its basic cable premiere in September 2009. TNT has agreed to a 3-year window, and WBDCD will also be able to license the film to another broadcast or cable network to run any time after the first year of TNT’s deal. TNT will also have a VOD option. The film will first go to HBO for its 18-month premium cable run.
Speaking of movie premium cable runs, 20th Century Fox and HBO have renewed their deal, reports Variety. HBO has other output deals with Warner Bros., Universal, DreamWorks and New Line, all adding up to more theatricals on HBO than on rival premium cable nets.

On television Saturday night the Live Earth Concert drew a meager 2.7 million viewers for NBC, less than a long-repeated airing of the movie Monsters Inc. on ABC which had 3.3 million viewers. Among all the NBC-owned properties airing the concert – CNBC, Sundance, Telemundo, mun2, Bravo, Universal HD – a total of approx 19 million tuned into watch the concert for at least six minutes. But the real hit seems to have been online where the web portal MSN reports the concert had more than 9 million internet streams.

If you happen to be watching SoapNet‘s new latenight series, General Hospital: Night Shift, you may notice the guy playing the role of the janitor with a secret past. He probably looks pretty familiar, a face you haven’t seen in a while on television (unless you happen to catch him in a couple of guest roles recently). Yes, that’s Billy Dee Williams, returning for a regular gig on TV, and that’s great to see. The series kicks off on Thursday at 11pm.
