~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

ABC ordered a new drama pilot titled 1-8-7 Detroit, a 60m drama centered on Detroit homicide detectives filmed by a mock documentary crew. The project is from writer/executive producer Jason Richman and ABC Studios and Mandeville Films (Monk) will produce. Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman will also executive produce.

Catherine McCormack and Stacy Keach join the cast of FX’s upcoming drama series Lights Out. The drama, produced by Fox TV Studios and FX Productions is about Patrick “Lights” Leary (Holt McCallany) a former heavyweight boxing champ who tries to earn a living to support his wife and three daughters. McCormack will play the wife while Keach will play Patrick’s dad and former trainer.

TV Land added several to the cast of its multi-camera original scripted pilot Retired at 35. Jonathan McClain will play David who leaves his rat-race job in New York and moves in with his father, Alan (George Segal); Casey Wilson plays David’s sister; Jessica Walter will play David’s mom; and Christine Ebersole will play a love interest for Alan.

HBO’s True Blood hired former Southland co-star Kevin Alejandro to play Jesus, a Latino orderly who, while taking care of Ruby (Alfre Woodard) in her care facility becomes involved with her son, Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis). Alejandro is expected to appear in nearly every episode during the series’ upcoming third season.

In other HBO news, Luke Wilson and Diane Ladd were added to the comedy pilot Enlightened headlined by Ladd’s real-life daughter Laura Dern, who plays Amy, a self-destructive woman who has a spiritual awakening to lead a new life. Wilson will portray Amy’s ex-husband who has a drug addiction while Ladd will play her mom. Amy Hill was also added as the HR head of Amy’s workplace. Charles Esten will play a recurring role as Amy’s boss and former lover.

Former Dawson’s Creek star, James Van Der Beek will appear on NBC’s frosh medical drama Mercy in a recurring role, playing a flirtatious ICU chief who has a dark secret. This recurring role may become a regular role for Van Der Beek.
