~ MORE STUFF ~

On Sunday, executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe of FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance tweeted saying the network cancelled the dancing competition’s results show.  FOX renewed So You Think You Can Dance last October for a ninth season and Lythgoe indicated in his tweet he would have to change the format of the show based on this decision by FOX.  The series’ season eight finale posted a 9% decrease compared to the 2010 season ender.

Original series Hell on Wheels received a second season renewal from AMC.  The series currently ranks as the second highest-rated series for the network sporting an average of 3.2 million viewers and 1.5 million among A25-54.  The season one finale is scheduled for January 15 at 10p.  Hell on Wheels is executive produced by Endemol USA with Entertainment One (eOne) serving as the studio.

MTV is moving its annual Upfront presentation to this spring instead of mid-winter.  The network will host its Upfront event on April 26 though no details about the presentation or where it will be held were revealed.  For the last two years, MTV has been one of the first cable networks to present its programming lineup, with last year’s event held on February 2 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan featuring the stars of Jersey Shore, Justin Bieber and more. 

The New Year’s Day NFL game between the Dallas Cowboys and the NY Giants gave NBC its highest overnight ratings in the network’s six-year history of Sunday Night Football, according to overnight data from Nielsen.  The game posted a 17.1 overnight rating and a 27 share, marking a +36% increase over last year’s Week 17 game. 

On December 26, Univision aired the two-hour finale of La Fuerza del Destino (The Power of Destiny) which tallied an average audience of 6.2 million total viewers as well as 3.4 million with A18-49 and 2.0 million A18-34 viewers.
 
Doug Sellars, EVP/Production and Executive Producer at FOX Sports Media Group died last Friday, December 30 at the age of 50.  FOX Sports Media Group Chairman David Hill paid Mr. Sellars an on-air tribute saying, “There are many ways to describe a man like Doug Sellars. He was a brilliant television producer, an overwhelmingly proud Canadian, a true sports fan, and one of the kindest, people you will ever know.” Mr. Sellars had been with FOX Sports for eleven years and since August managed all studio and event production for the networks and the related media outlets encompassing FOX Sports Media Group.  He was additionally an advisor to the Big Ten Networks.  Mr. Sellars is survived by his wife, Barb and two children.

Thursday A18-49 Analysis:  CBS was the leader last Thursday among A18-49 viewers with a 2.0/6, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.  At 8p, CBS’ repeat comedies The Big Bang Theory and Rules of Engagement won with an average of 2.5/8 and Univision’s Una Familia con Suerte was next at 1.7/5.  The networks flip-flopped at 9p as Univision won with the second hour of Una Familia con Suerte at 1.9/5 and CBS’ Person of Interest rebroadcast ranked #2 at 1.7/5.  Then at 10p, it was CBS winning again with an encore of The Mentalist at 1.7/5 and Univision’s La Rose de Guadalupe placed second at 1.3/4.

Former Digital Sales Manager at CBS Corporation, Andrew Polsky was appointed VP/Digital Sales of SBS Interactive, part of Spanish Broadcasting System Inc.  Andrew will spearhead growth for SBS’ Digital Media business while based in Miami reporting to Donny Hudson, VP/Consolidated Sales for SBS.

ABC News named Jon Banner as Executive Producer of This Week starting January 8, where he will work closely with anchor George Stephanopoulos.
