The upcoming drama series Touch starring Kiefer Sutherland is getting an international launch plan next month for its premiere.  Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution, FOX, FOX One, 20th Century Fox Television and FOX International Channels are all working together on the worldwide launch of the series which will premiere nearly simultaneously in more than 100 countries.  To coincide with the launch, Sutherland will embark on an international media tour conducting interviews in major cities across Europe and culminating in a global media event in New York City on March 18.  Unilever has also signed to become the series’ global advertising sponsor.  FOX will air a special preview of Touch this Wednesday at 9p ahead of the series’ premiere on March 19 at 9p.  The international launch will take place the week of March 19.  Touch is a production of Chernin Entertainment and Tailwind Productions, in association with 20th Century Fox Television.

TLC picked up the series Sorority Girls which follows five American society girls as they attempt to establish the first sorority, Sigma Gamma in the UK.  Premiering January 31 at 9p, the 8-week series goes to Leeds and documents the girl’s recruiting efforts to see if this “Go Greek” American custom can mix with traditional British culture.  Sorority Girls is produced by 12 Yard Productions.

Animal Planet handed a second season order to Call of the Wildman from Sharp Entertainment, giving the half-hour series 16 episodes set to bow this summer.   The series will also have a special airing during the network’s Monster Week this spring.  In addition, Animal Planet approved the new six-episode reality series, Northwoods Law that follows a top-level game warden service in Maine scheduled to launch this March.  Northwoods Law is produced by Engel Entertainment.

Saturday’s world premiere of Scorned: Love Kills on Investigation Discovery drew in 1.039 million total viewers as well as 587,000 with A25-54 and 395,000 with W25-54.

For last Thursday’s season three premiere of Archer on FX at 10p, the network tallied 950,000 among A18-49; 639,000 with A18-34; in addition to 507,000 with M18-34.  Following at 1030p, FX opened new series Unsupervised which brought in 568,000 A18-49 viewers and 477,000 with M18-49.

NATPE 2012:

Independent distributor DRG made several deals with broadcasters in Latin America at the beginning of the NATPE market:

  • Fox Latin American Channels bought two factual entertainment shows including seasons two and three of Choccywoccydoodah produced by Twofour with 10 half-hour episodes each season.  The network also picked up Home by Novogratz with 13 half-hour eps produced by Left Right Inc.
  • Pramer in Latin America picked up the thrillers Injustice with 5 one-hour eps in hi-def produced by Injustice Films Ltd. for ITV1 and Rebus from STV Productions with 10 90-minute eps.
  • Pay-TV platform, Globosat, Brazil acquired a 40-hour package that includes two Australian series: The Stafford Brothers with 16 half-hour eps in hi-def and produced by WD Entertainment as well as Laid with 12 one-hour eps in hi-def produced by Porchlight Films.
  • The teen channel Yups owned by Telefonica’s Media Networks Latin America picked up My Almost Famous Family with 11 half-hour eps in hi-def produced by BBC Productions; Paradise Cafe in season two with 13 half-hour eps in hi-def that is a co-production of Endemol/Initial UK and The Gibson Group; Jinx with 13 half-hour eps in hi-def produced by Kindle Entertainment; and Totally Frank with 26 half-hour eps in hi-def from Endemol/Initial UK.

The Asylum, an independent production and distribution studio is representing ten available telefilms at NATPE including some scheduled to air in the US on Syfy and Lifetime. The Asylum is located on the Market Floor, Booth #204.

Fox International Channels and Colombia-based RCN Television Group (RCN) formed a joint venture which will launch MundoFox, a new Spanish-language television network aimed at the US Hispanic market.  MundoFox will launch in fall 2012 in Hispanic homes nationwide and will highlight Spanish-language entertainment and sports programming.  Distribution is presently being established though the network has plans to be carried on stations reaching 75% of US households.

Independent distributor Echo Bridge Entertainment snagged the US domestic television distribution rights to the family dramedy film Expecting Mary at 97 minutes in length.  At NATPE, Echo Bridge Entertainment is located on Market Floor, Booth #304.

The 24/7 WeatherNation TV, an all-weather news format delivering current weather information will now broadcast on Gannett-owned KARE-TV in Minneapolis-St. Paul.  At NAPTE, WeatherNation TV Inc. is located in Chateau Tower, Suite #1160.

Me-TV, Memorable Entertainment Television made a deal with Broadcast Partners LLC and its Classic Media Library.  As a result of this deal, Me-TV will be adding a weekend morning animation block at the beginning of second quarter this year and it will include Gumby, Mr. Magoo, He-Man and She-Ra.  Me-TV affiliates will also have the choice to run the live action classics Timmy and Lassie Hour and The Lone Ranger as well as other animated series The Archies, Ghostbusters, Casper and Friends and Bravestarr.  Me-TV Network is located at the Fontainebleau Hotel, Sorrento Tower 3-0709 while at NATPE 2012.

RFD-TV’s co-produced The Marty Stuart Show was picked up by Australian-based Country Music Channel (CMC).  All three seasons of the American variety show will air on CMC and the show made its first-ever Australian debut last Sunday.  The distribution deal was made by Rural Media Group (RMG), the parent company of US-based RFD-TV with XYZ Networks, the owner and operator of CMC.  While at NATPE, RFD-TV is located on the Market Floor, Booth #213 where they invite conference attendees and the media to view The Trigger and Bullet Happy Trails Tour honoring Roy Rogers and featuring Trigger “The Golden Palomino” and Bullet “The Wonder Dog.”

Telemundo Media is teaming with Argos Television to produce series and novelas in Mexico.  Telemundo further made a three-year global distribution deal with Mexico’s Cadena 3 and Televen in Venezuela encompassing 600 hours of hi-def novela programming in international markets, except Mexico and Venezuela.  The deal includes the distribution of six novelas with the first one currently in pre-production.

Cyn’s Notes from NATPE 2012 – Miami: It’s late January, that means it must be NATPE time again.  Time for us northerners to get away from the cold winter weather for a few days, and enjoy the sun and ocean breezes, and I have to admit, the weather here in Miami is cooperating beautifully.  The Fontainebleau Hotel is a great venue for this market, especially since the only real problem from last year  the elevators seems to have been solved.

Exhibitors are set up in a variety of places — on the exhibition floor, in suites, poolside cabanas, yachts and easy one-on-one meetings are often held in the ever popular lobby bar  the Bleu Bar.

So I arrive down in the lobby this morning and like any normal person, checked out my appearance more than a couple of times before leaving my room.  Everything looked just fine.  Black dress, black heals, hair done, NATPE badge.  Good to go.  I get down in the lobby and run into an old girlfriend who in the midst of our catching up says, “oh sorry if this is inappropriate” and begins wiping down the front of my dress.  Unbeknownst to me, there were three large white streaks on the front of my dress.  After some quick detective work, it became evident this was not going to brush off.  Why?  Because it’s deodorant marks.

Any girl knows pulling a dress or blouse over her head after putting on deodorant, runs this risk.  I thought I got through unscathed this time.  I was wrong.  And water and a paper towel weren’t helping, just leaving white bits of paper down the front of my black dress.  Another friend handed me a baby wipe and… genius!  Worked like a charm.  Am I the only one who has these problems when I go to a convention?  Who knows what tomorrow will bring.
