A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM HARPO PRODUCTIONS AND SONY PICTURES TELEVISION

Simon Cowell is talking with former and current co-stars about joining his upcoming new FOX show, The X Factor as judges. Cowell is having discussions with both Paula Abdul and current co-star of Britain’s X Factor, Cheryl Cole to be judges and mentors for the new US version. The X Factor is slated to premiere on FOX in Fall 2011.

In advance of its television premiere this Friday, Syfy said more than 1.5 million people will have already viewed all or part of the Caprica series opener. The network used the two-hour pilot episode to market the entire 18-episode first season of the original drama via Hulu, Syfy.com, DVD, FOD (free on demand) as well as through Apple and Amazon downloads and film festival screenings. Syfy additionally is targeting the young Hispanic market by placing Spanish-language Caprica ads on Telemundo and mun2 as well as airing the pilot after January 22 on mun2, Bravo, USA and Universal HD. Caprica was also marketed via Facebook and in national print ads in Vanity Fair and Interview, on websites Wired and Daily Beast and through various film festivals in Woodstock, NY, Austin, San Diego among others. Caprica makes its Syfy debut this Friday at 9p.

Sunday’s 67th annual Golden Globe awards on NBC attracted 16.9 million total viewers, marking the network’s highest rating in the time period, excluding sports, in five years, reports THR.

Veteran broadcaster William J. Brooks, 76, died over the weekend while traveling on a cruise to Panama with his wife, Muffy. Bill had received medical attention in Curacao where he died this past Saturday. Bill was best known as the leading force behind NBC affiliate WPTV/West Palm Beach, helping the station become a ratings winner in the market for many consecutive years. At this time, funeral plans for Bill have not been finalized.

London-based distributor Digital Rights Group (DRG) is teaming with Los Angeles-based 44 Blue Productions in a new two-year agreement. DRG will have an exclusive first-look to pick up international rights to 44 Blue’s programming content in addition to establishing a development budget for new projects. Any acquired or newly developed programming under this deal will be distributed by DRG America. DRG has already pinpointed two new projects for truTV for international sales, as part of this deal.

Michael’s job entails overseeing distribution of FCN’s 35+ domestic TV networks and their non-linear extensions. Michael’s duties also include leading business strategy and negotiations with major distributors and working in tandem with Fox Digital Media on multi-media distribution efforts. He will continue to report to Mike Hopkins, President/Affiliate Sales and Marketing.
 
Media agency, Gold Mountain Media hired Mandy Durbin as Director/Marketing and Client Services. Based in Los Angeles, Mandy reports to owner, Mark Knudsen.
