A multi-year, multi-platform deal was forged between DISH Network LLC and Univision Communications Inc. DISH Network will now offer a comprehensive selection of Spanish-language networks and content to DISH Latino subscribers. In the first half of 2012, DISH will launch Univision’s new networks, Univision Deportes, Univision tlnovelas and Univision Noticias and additionally offer exclusive access to Univision Deportes Dos. In turn, DISH will provide broad distribution of Univision Deportes and Univision will give DISH thousands of hours of novelas and Spanish-language movies for DISH’s Blockbuster @Home package. The agreement also includes distribution of Univision’s networks including the Univision Network, TeleFutura, Galavision and a collection of six TV channels: De Pelicula, De Película Clasico, Bandamax, Ritmoson, Telehit and Clasico TV.
Hallmark Movie Channel, owned and operated by Crown Media Holdings, Inc. has reached the distribution level of 45 million homes, according to Nielsen.
The broadcast, online and wireless service for digital channels in local markets Live Well Network made affiliation deals with five Citadel Communications’ stations. Stations picking up Live Well Network include WLNE/New Bedford-Providence; WOI/Ames-Des Moines; WHBF/Rock Island-Quad Cities; KLKN/Lincoln; and KCAU/Sioux City. All five television stations begin airing the Live Well Network January 16. The addition of these five stations takes the Live Well Network to an overall clearance of nearly 55% of all US TV households. The Live Well Network is operated by the ABC Owned Television Stations Group.
IFC approved two new scripted comedy series for its 2012 original programming slate. Both series were ordered with 10 – 30m episodes and are scheduled to premiere back-to-back in June as a one-hour original comedy block.
- Comedy Bang! Bang! is a sketch variety show highlighting celebrity guests, comedy sketches and animation. Scott Aukerman is the host which is based on his podcast of the same name. Music on the show will be provided by bandleader, Reggie Watts. The series is produced for IFC by Abso Lutely Productions. Aukerman, Dave Kneebone and Leo Allen are executive producers.
- Bunk (wt) is a game show parody series featuring a rotating roster of comedian contestants performing various comedy challenges. Comedian Kurt Braunohler will host the series created by Ethan T. Berlin and Eric Bryant. The series is produced for IFC by Avalon Television. Bryant, Berlin, David Martin, Jon Thoday and Richard Allen-Turner are executive producers.
TNT ordered the drama pilot L.A. Noir from executive producers Frank Darabont, Michael De Luca and Elliot Webb. L.A. Noir is from TNT Original Productions and is based on the book L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America’s Most Seductive City by John Buntin which documents the battle between LAPD Chief William Parker and mobster Mickey Cohen. Darabont will write and direct the pilot. Alissa Phillips of Michael De Luca Productions serves as co-executive producer.
Correction: In our piece about TNT’s approval of reality competition series, The Great Escape in Monday’s edition, we inadvertently misspelled Charlie Ebersol’s name and we regret the error. In addition, TNT wanted to add that Charlie Ebersol and Justin Hochberg are the creators of The Great Escape.
Production on a new HGTV landscaping series Going Yard will begin in April featuring landscaping professional Chris Lambton. The series will follow Lambton, the co-owner of a landscaping company in Cape Cod, Massachusetts as he makes over neglected backyards into transformed outdoor spaces for entertaining. Lambton formerly was a runner-up in season six of ABC’s The Bachelorette.
