Sunday’s Super Bowl XLVI on NBC has become the most-watched television program in US history and the highest-rated Super Bowl event in 26 years, based on fast national data from Nielsen. Super Bowl XLVI was watched by a record 111.3 million total viewers from 631p to 958p, besting last year’s Super Bowl XLV on FOX with 111.0 million viewers. The top five most-watched programs in US history now include: 1. Super Bowl XLVI (NBC) at 111.3 million; 2. Super Bowl XLV (FOX) at 111.0 million; 3. Super Bowl XLIV (CBS) at 106.5 million; 4. M*A*S*H Finale (CBS) at 106.0 million; and 5. Super Bowl XLIII (NBC) at 98.7 million. Sunday’s Super Bowl XLVI also posted a 47.0 rating and a 71 share, a +2% increase over last year’s Super Bowl XLV and is the highest-rated Super Bowl since 1986 (Bears-Patriots, Super Bowl XX with a 48.3/70). In addition, Sunday’s half-time show featuring Madonna is the most-watched ever with 114.0 million viewers from 8-830p. Directly after Super Bowl XLVI, NBC aired the season two premiere of The Voice which averaged a 16.3 rating among A18-49 and 37.6 million total viewers, becoming the highest-rated entertainment program with A18-49 viewers in six years.

A pair of new programs debut on Travel Channel in April: Hotel Impossible is a one-hour weekly series opening April 9 at 10p and Baggage Battles is a 30m weekly series opening with two back-to-back episodes on April 11 at 10p. In Travel Channel’s original series Hotel Impossible produced by Atlas Media Corp., Anthony Melchiorri is a hotel “fixer” who turns around struggling hotels. Original series Baggage Battles goes inside the profitable business of bidding, buying and reselling unclaimed lost baggage. Baggage Battles is produced by MY Tupelo Entertainment for Travel Channel.
A second season of the original scripted drama Breakout Kings rejoins A&E Network’s lineup starting March 4 at 10p. The new season has ten new episodes from Fox 21.
This Saturday, GMC TV presents the 27th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards. The two-hour show begins at 7p with encore airings at 9p and 11p. Also starting at 6p, GMC will air an exclusive one-hour Red Carpet preview at 6p. The awards show is hosted by comedian Jonathan Slocumb.
Later this month, REELZCHANNEL will exclusively air the 10th Annual Visual Effects Society Awards on February 19 at 10p. The VES Awards honor outstanding artistry in more than twenty categories covering movies, animation, television, commercials and video games. An encore of the awards presentation will air at 1a on February 19.
MediaCom was granted the digital media assignment in the US for Subway. MediaCom is Subway’s agency of record for all media planning and buying in the US.
TLC and OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network picked up the rights to Undercover Boss UK and Undercover Boss Australia which will be titled on both networks as Undercover Boss: Abroad. TLC will air the 28 one-hour episodes back-to-back on Mondays at 9p and 10p starting February 13 over 14 weeks. OWN will air the series in a similar fashion on Tuesdays at 8p and 9p beginning March 13. Undercover Boss: Abroad is distributed domestically by CBS Television Distribution and is produced by Studio Lambert, a unit of All3Media Group. Furthermore, both networks will add Undercover Boss Canada later this spring.
South Asian entertainment network, Zee TV is launching in hi-def in the Americas by the end of first quarter.
In a new reality series, TLC takes viewers inside the tight-knit community of South Boston in Southie Pride (wt). The new series produced by 495 Productions (Jersey Shore) follows the lives of five South Boston women. Casting is currently underway. Eight episodes were ordered by TLC and the network will debut the series this fall.
Jonathan Groff (Glee) is joining the second season of political series Boss on Starz. Groff will play an ambitious new member of Mayor Kane’s corrupt office.
Former All My Children cast member, Thorsten Kaye landed a recurring role on NBC’s new musical drama Smash (which debuted Monday night). Kaye will begin with the show’s sixth episode playing a love interest for Anjelica Huston’s character.

Friday A18-49 Analysis: A re-do from the previous week, ABC and Univision tied for first place Friday at 1.6/5 each among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. FOX topped in the ratings at 8p with Kitchen Nightmares at 1.6/5 and ABC’s Shark Tank was a close second at 1.5/5. Also this hour, NBC debuted a new season of Who Do You Think You Are? at 1.2/4 which ranked fifth. Univision did best at 9p with La Que No Podia Amar at 1.9/6 and CBS trailed with CSI: NY at 1.6/5. Then at 10p, a tie for #1 happened between ABC’s 20/20 and CBS’ Blue Bloods at 1.7/5 apiece and Univision’s La Rosa de Guadalupe was next in line at 1.3/4.
