Late yesterday, NBC revealed James Spader will not be returning to The Office if a ninth season is ordered.  Spader joined the comedy series after playing a two-scene role in the seventh season finale which turned into a full season role portraying the fictional company’s new chief executive, Robert California.

In The CW’s pilot The Carrie Diaries, the role of Carrie Bradshaw was handed to Anna Sophia Robb.   The series is based on the novel of the same name by Candace Bushnell and the plot follows Carrie during her high school years in the 1980s in Manhattan.   In addition, Ellen Wong and Katie Findlay have been cast to play Carrie’s friends in the pilot, according to Variety.  Wong will play Jill “The Mouse” Thompson, Carrie’s smart and loyal best friend and Findlay will play Carrie’s oldest friend, Maggie Landers.  The project is from Warner Bros. Television.

MTV has ordered a third edition of Teen Mom, the reality series that is a spinoff of the network’s 16 and Pregnant series.  A fourth season of 16 and Pregnant debuts March 27 with back-to-back episodes and Teen Mom 3 is expected to feature four teens from the new edition.  Teen Mom 2 recently ended its second run and will air reunion special tonight at 10p.

Former Breaking Bad villain, Giancarlo Esposito will star in J.J. Abrams’ drama pilot Revolution for NBC.  Esposito will play Captain Neville, a tough military man who also possesses a genteel Southern manner and who may have an alternate personality.  Warner Bros. Television and Bad Robot Productions are producing.

Bryan Greenberg was cast as the male lead in CBS’ untitled comedy pilot form Greg Berlanti and Greg Malins.  Greenberg will play Nick, a womanizer who after having a health scare realizes his longtime friend Wendy is “The One.”  Wendy (JoAnna Garcia) is engaged to a nice guy (Ryan Gaul).

Eva Amurri Martino, seen recently in HBO’s Californication, landed a role in FOX’s drama pilot Guilty, cites THR.  Amurri Martino will play Lily, an attorney who works closely with the as-yet-uncast attorney lead role in the project.  The drama is from Warner Bros.
