~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Comedy Central allows all sorts of beasts, sci-fi and fantasy creatures to invade New York City in the new animated horror/comedy series Ugly Americans, premiering March 17 at 1030p. The plot centers on Mark Lilly, a social worker at the “Department of Integration” as he aids new citizens, both human and not-so-much, adapt to life in New York City. A companion web site features episode previews, an interactive map of Manhattan, video clips and more. David M. Stern is the series developer and executive producer along with Daniel Powell; Devin Clark is the series creator. Aaron Augenblick is the Animation Director with animation by Augenblick Studios and Cuppa Coffee.

Archer will return for a second season on FX. The half-hour animated comedy received a 13 episode order for 2011. To date, Archer has averaged 853,000 A18-49 and 1.2 million total viewers over the seven episodes airing thus far. Archer has three more new episodes including the finale, scheduled to air on March 18. This Thursday, FX will air a special “Four-Play Marathon of Archer” episodes from 10p-midnight. Archer was created by Adam Reed and Floyd County Productions and is produced by FX Productions.

TLC granted a third season for its series The Little Couple with 20 new episodes slated to begin production this spring and premiering on the network in June. The series follows the married life of Dr. Jen Arnold and Bill Klein, both of whom are under four-feet tall. The series, produced for TLC by LMNO Productions, will air its second season finale tonight at 10p.

Speed is opening Fast Track to Fame on March 1 at 9p, a talent show designed for NASCAR fans, cites B&C. The ten-episode talent competition show follows the NASCAR schedule with stops at race tracks around the nation. Michael Waltrip, a well-known NASCAR owner and driver, will host the show.

Sunday’s fourth season finale of Keeping Up with the Kardashians on E! at 10p delivered record-breaking ratings for the network as well as the best ratings for the series. The final episode tallied 4.8 million total viewers, the most-watched telecast ever for E! in addition to posting the network’s highest ratings ever in several demos: 3.15 with A18-34; 6.14 with W18-34; and 4.62 with W18-49.

BET’s series The Family Crews drew in 1.4 million total viewers for its opening episode Sunday night at 9p and another 1.3 million total viewers watched the second episode immediately following the first.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

Twentieth Television, Inc. announced its syndicated version of Don’t Forget the Lyrics! hosted by Mark McGrath will now be seen in 155+ markets, representing 65% of the US. The show, premiering this fall and produced by RDF USA and Apploff Entertainment, was sold in top 20 marketing including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, Boston and Dallas. VH1 will also carry the show as well as MyNetworkTV in primetime. Television stations acquiring the show in syndication include: Fox Television Stations’ WFXT/Boston, WJBK/Detroit; Cox’s KTVU-KICU/San Francisco; Sinclair’s WPGH-WPMY/Pittsburgh, WTTA/Tampa, WZTV-WUXP-WNAB/Nashville, WABM-WTTO/Birmingham, KOKH-KOCB/Oklahoma City, WKEF/WRGT/Dayton, WVAH-WCHS/Charleston-Huntington, WSYT-WNYS/Syracuse; Local TV’s KTVI-KPLR/St. Louis, WDAF/Kansas City; Weigel’s WMLW/Milwaukee; Gannett’s WZZM/Grand Rapids; Newport’s WLYH/Harrisburg, KASN-KLRT/Little Rock, WHAM/Rochester; Venture’s WNYA/Albany; and Morgan Murphy Media’s KXLY-KXMN/Spokane.

Litton Entertainment said additional station groups have committed to Judge Karen’s Court rolling out in national syndication this fall. New station groups picking up the show include Barrington, Belo, Capitol, Cox, Gray, Lin, Media General, New Age, Newport, Quincy, Raycom, Roberts, Tribune, Venture, Weigel and more stations owned by Sinclair.

Eclipse TV has cleared 80% of the US for its 6 upcoming dog competition hours for 2010.  Traditionally airing on ESPN and ABC, the series is now available in a syndication package that kicks off in 2nd quarter with the first of four Incredible Dog Challenges from Whistler, British Columbia.  The final two hours are a Best in Breed competition from Oklahoma City.  Among top major market stations clearing the hours are WABC, KCBS and WPVI. 

CBS College Sports Network has launched via AT&T U-verse on the AT&T U450 and The Sports Package.

Liberman Broadcasting, Inc. (LBI Media) purchased its ninth O&O television station in the Chicago market from Trinity Broadcasting Network, Inc. for its Hispanic broadcast network, Estrella TV. This acquisition now marks a 73% penetration of Estrella TV in the US Hispanic population. The deal will likely close during second quarter this year and is subject to typical regulatory approvals. The Chicago station serves more than 490,000 Latino TV households and Chicago ranks as the sixth largest Hispanic market in the US.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Comedy Central approved a 30m multicultural stand-up series from Russell Simmons and Stan Lathan. The network ordered six episodes hosted by JB Smoove which will be filmed in Los Angeles this week at the El Rey Theater. The series will debut this summer where each episode will feature today’s urban culture and youth through stand-up comedy. The episodes will each highlight three emerging comics and music created by DJ Cassidy. Simmons and Lathan will serve as executive producers.

Lionsgate made a new two-year overall television production and development agreement with Jenji Kohan, the creator and executive producer of Weeds on Showtime. The deal keeps Kohan as showrunner and executive producer of Weeds which premieres its sixth season this summer. Kohan is also the executive producer of Tough Trade produced by Lionsgate, the first original series pilot for EPIX. Kohan also has a several other projects in development with Lionsgate including an untitled musical comedy pilot for Showtime, working with writer Stephen Falk (Weeds).

Jim Belushi, familiar to fans as star of ABC’s According to Jim, was selected to star in the CBS legal drama Defenders. Belushi will play Nick, one of two charismatic and passionate Las Vegas defense attorneys who fight for the little guys.

PBS’ Masterpiece and BBC Worldwide Sales and Distribution, Americas are teaming in a co-production deal involving a new remake of Upstairs Downstairs with the BBC. The new version of Upstairs Downstairs will air in the US next year, coinciding with Masterpiece’s 40th anniversary season on PBS. Furthermore, the deal also encompasses Sherlock, a new take on the famous Sherlock Holmes novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle as well as three mysteries based on the Aurelio Zen mystery novels set in Italy and written by Michael Dibden.

Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica, FOX’s 24) was tapped to headline ABC’s yet-to-be-titled crime drama pilot about an attractive female detective (Sackhoff) who partners with a disgraced ex-cop to solve crimes and solve the conspiracy that drove the ex-cop underground.

In other casting news per THR, Rachael Leigh Cook will play the female lead in FOX’s comedy pilot Nirvana; Sean Faris takes on the leading role in The Wyoming Project for The CW; Jere Burns will star in FOX’s comedy Strange Brew along with newly added Aya Cash, Skylar Astin and Mo Mandel; and Charles Dutton, Lea Thompson and Jeff Davis have all been cast in TBS’ 60m pilot Uncle Nigel.

~ RATINGS ~

Friday A18-49 Analysis: From the Olympics’ opening week to the next, NBC remained in first place Friday night among A18-49 at 5.4/17, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, NBC’s Olympics coverage won with 4.3/15 followed by UNIV’s Hasta que el Dinero Nos Separe at 1.6/5. NBC’s ratings high for the evening occurred during 9p as the Winter Olympics posted a 6.3/19 with UNIV’s Hasta que el Dinero Nos Separe again in second place at 1.8/6 and ABC’s repeat movie a close third at 1.8/5. NBC finished with the final primetime win through 10p at 5.5/17 and ABC’s 20/20 was #2 at 1.4/4.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Transit advertising company, Titan elevated Scott Goldsmith to President/Transit up from General Counsel/EVP. Based at company headquarters in New York, Scott will work with Titan’s 25 Transit Authority partners to establish new advertising opportunities for clients in addition to securing new business nationwide. Titan additionally promoted Craig Abolt to the role of EVP/CFO and Chief Administrative Officer. Craig will now oversee all financial and administrative activities for Titan including IT, HR and the company’s Digital OOH network.

Chris Linn advanced to EVP/MTV Production with MTV based in New York City. Chris will be in charge of the strategic oversight and implementation of production and MTV initiatives across departments such as development, talent, production and programming. Chris will also manage the development and production of original movies for television. Chris reports to Tony DiSanto, President/Programming, MTV.

Brad Navin, who has been the interim CEO with The Orchard, has been named CEO as well as a Director of the company. Brad was selected for this position following a search that commenced in October 2009.

Louisiana Public Broadcasting named Jason Viso as Director/Programming. Most recently, Jason was Director/Programming and Scheduling with the CW and WB networks in Burbank, CA.

N.J. Pesci joins Scripps Networks as SVP/Human Resources, working with Scripps Networks’ top operating categories within the company and heading the company’s talent management, learning and development areas. N.J. hails from The Procter & Gamble Company in Cincinnati. He will be based at Scripps Networks’ headquarters in Knoxville.

MediaCom hired Suhaila Suhimi as Senior Partner/Digital Strategy Director to spearhead the agency’s digital operations in the West Coast and Chicago offices. Suhaila will supervise the company’s digital strategy and operations on behalf of clients based from these offices including Warner Bros. Home Video, Discover and ConAgra. Members of the digital teams in both locations will now report to her.
