HGTV invites visitors to experience what it’s like being a designer in the network’s new interactive series Run My Makeover.  As of this past Monday, visitors to HGTV.com/RunMyMakeover can peruse photos and videos of a homeowner’s room and then participate in choosing design elements such as lighting, flooring and paint colors.  When the votes are tallied, host Alexi Panos and her design team and the homeowner will use the winning online selections in the space, no matter the final outcome.  Run My Makeover premieres in July.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Spike TV gave orders to two new unscripted series:

  • Bar Rescue – From Jon Taffer, a top restaurant and bar consultant, this show will demonstrate how to run a successful bar. This is Spike TV’s first food/beverage themed show and the network gave the project 10 one-hour episodes.  Bar Rescue begins production in April and is produced by 3 Ball Productions/Eyeworks US.
  • Repo Games – Game show series described as Cops meets Jeopardy follows real-life repo men, Josh Lewis and Tom Detone who give debtors one last chance to keep their cars though only if they are willing to play for it.  Spike TV ordered 20 half-hour episodes of Repo Games which begins production this month and is produced by 495 Productions, the company behind Jersey Shore, More to Love and other series.

FOX made a first-look development agreement with JHF, the new production company founded by actor/producer/writer Jonah Hill.  FOX has already okayed an untitled single-camera comedy spec script written by Hill and one he may direct.  FOX will have further first rights to future JHF television projects.  Previously, FOX handed a seven-episode commitment to Hill’s new animated series, Allen Gregory.

Logo is in development on several new projects:

  • Tig Has Friends – Executive produced by Sarah Silverman, this show features comedian Tig Notaro who interviews the cast of a different TV show, movie or band each week.  Erin O’Malley will also serve as executive producer and Notaro will be a co-executive producer.
  • Queen of Harts – Multi-camera comedy series about a struggling hair stylist who poses as a woman to land a job as a nanny for a former ’80s rock star’s family.  From Peter Marc Jacobson (The Nanny).
  • Sally Hershberger Project – Docu-series follows the life of hair stylist Sally Hershberger. World of Wonder produces.
  • Sex Therapy – Therapist Dr. Christopher Donaghue provides guidance to a group of people and the show will track each member’s progress concerning issues involving infidelity, trust, intimacy and more.  From PB&J Television.
  • Life’s A Drag – Docu-series delves into life after RuPaul’s Drag Race for a group of contestants who appeared on past season’s of the competition series.  World of Wonder and RuPaul Charles serve as executive producers.

Richard Dreyfuss will next appear on NBC’s family drama Parenthood, cites TVLine.com.  Dreyfuss, who just came off a recurring role on Showtime’s Weeds, will star in the final four episodes of Parent’s current season playing Gilliam T. Blount, a former theater producer who is also an old friend of Zeek’s (Craig T. Nelson).

HBO gave a pilot order nod to a project from Aaron Sorkin.  The pilot will go behind-the-scenes of a cable news network.   Sorkin had recently spent time with MSNBC’s former host Keith Olbermann to gather research for this project.

ABC Family picked up three new original series all set to premiere later this year:

  • Switched at Birth – One-hour drama about two teenage girls who find out they were accidentally switched as newborns in the hospital. One grew up rich and privileged while the other lives with her single mom in a poor neighborhood.  Lea Thompson headlines the cast.
  • The Nine Lives of Chloe King – One-hour drama centered on Chloe King about a young woman who discovers she is a member of an ancient race that has been hunted by human assassins for millennia.
